So DD is in year 3 and has a male teacher for the first time. I’m totally stumped for an idea for him and hoping for some inspiration please

Wine. Chocolate. Absolutely nothing that says best teacher on it!

NuffSaidSam · 07/11/2021 13:34

My kids school always does a collection and buys gift vouchers for John Lewis.

CarolineMumsnet · 07/11/2021 13:37

Hey OP, we're going to move this over to Christmas for you now. Halo

Snuzzle · 07/11/2021 13:37

Our class parents will definitely not do a collection, a lot of them have never bothered with presents before but DD loves school and is really enjoying having him as a teacher especially so would like to get something for him.

Book voucher is what we always go for.

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 07/11/2021 13:42

Voucher for Costa or local coffee shop. My dd got her make teacher a Motörhead mug as she knew he liked them!

elQuintoConyo · 07/11/2021 13:43

Homemade card by DD, with a note by her saying how much she loves his classes.

Anything else is a waste of money and resources.

Cards are small and more likely to be kept, re-read if/when they're having a bad day and are personalised.

I wouldn't want anything to eat, drink, wear, drink out of nor a collection for vouchers.

Cattitudes · 07/11/2021 14:36

Nice homemade Christmas decoration.

Underthestairsbears · 07/11/2021 19:11

Thermos mug for playground duty
Personalised teacher stickers from eBay (bought for the teachers and TAs at my school many times and appreciated)
Wine
Little food hamper
Wine
Christmas socks?!

PigeonPigPie · 07/11/2021 19:25

Book voucher, coffee voucher, tie, nice pen, something for the classroom

A card with that written in it.

Totally agree. If you teach 30 children and have been teaching that's a lot of tat!! I don't actually want the best teacher stuff in my house either nor the 30 odd mugs! Would much rather have a box of Maltese's from the £1 shop but a bottle of wine is the holy grail!! No teacher expects any presents but as a parent I did always want to give to those who went above and beyond the job! The ones who didn't got a card if they were lucky.
ramonaquimby · 07/11/2021 22:11

Something consumable if you’re going to get something. Otherwise a card and a little message inside.

BabyRace · 07/11/2021 22:14

In this order....

Thoughtfully written card from DD
Letter or email to the Head, stating how much dd loves his class and how well she's progressing.
Wine (or other alcohol that you know he drinks)
Coffee shop voucher
Chocolate

Don't bother with anything else.

careerchangeperhaps · 07/11/2021 22:16

I've always gone for a book token. The teacher can then either treat themselves or buy something for the classroom (at my childrens' school, each classroom has its own mini library).

Just this!
If your dd loves his class tell him and say thank you!
Anything else is nice but unnecessary, teachers get paid!

If you must get something then stick with wine or chocolates that will always get used.

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 07/11/2021 22:47

Ask you daughter what they talk about a lot or are interested in. Quirkier but well received presents unless they were just being polite have included a box of green biros & a packet of chocolate hobnobs as well as vouchers / book tokens / thermos coffee mugs

We get laid but we also work longer hours than we get paid for, get shouted at, sworn at, spat at, and on occasion physically assaulted. We don't get paid for that. We spent lockdown with everyone telling us we're heroes when they tried to educate their own children and now we're back to teacher bashing.

A token of appreciation goes further than you think, it's more than 'nice'.

BabyRace · 09/11/2021 19:58

Oops we get paid

No comment about getting laid.

maofteens · 09/11/2021 20:13

As we had so many teachers (plus receptionist, head , dinner ladies) my daughter wanted to give Christmas gifts we made fudge one year and peppermint creams dipped in chocolate the next. Fun for the kids and the teachers loved them. We got small cellophane bags off of Amazon and tied them with a colourful ribbon. I've also given them chutney we made.

SpamIAm · 09/11/2021 20:17

Glad to hear your needs are being met @BabyRace 😂

I'm going wine and chocolate. I did a PGCE (one year was enough) and wine and chocolate were staples. I can't imagine that changes much as careers progress.

Katjolo · 09/11/2021 20:21

Wine, coffee voucher and/or email to head and chair of governors if super impressed.

LethargicActress · 09/11/2021 20:21

A card and a bar of chocolate, or one of those Lindt stars or a box of biscuits or similar. Just anything little that your dd will enjoy giving, because those are the things that are most touching to receive. Ask her what she’d like to give, she might have her own ideas.

Snuzzle · 09/11/2021 21:10

@LethargicActress DD wants to buy him a motorbike Grin so she’s not very helpful.

Will definitely make sure the head knows how much she’s enjoying his teaching alongside buying something. Dd has already made him a Christmas card too so that’s sorted.
