Small gifts for work colleagues

Hi All

I like to include a small gift with the Christmas card for each of the people in my team (there are 12 of them) - but really struggling to find something this year. Last year I got each of them a Christmas decoration that was personalised with their name. I'm not against a decoration of some kind this year, I think it's quite nice to get something to hang on your tree but just can't find anything so far (decoration or otherwise). It needs to be quite inexpensive as it's only a token really and there are 12 of them - any ideas?

xx

fridge magnet
very handy

Yogaandcocoa · 02/11/2021 07:20

QVC does some good sets that you could split eg molten brown and l'occitane

Costco does Charbonnel et Walker chocolates I think £10 for two boxes

A candle - Sometimes you can get little sets of candles eg Yankee or even ESPA online

I did wonder about something like this

You can get different colours so I could vary them for different people.

If you wanted to go down the showergel kind of route could you get them a lush bath bomb each? they have several for under £4 each and that way there would be no plastic waste. You can get manly smelling ones and if people don't want to use them they will likely have kids or younger relatives they can be given to so as not to go to waste.
Otherwise small chocolates is a good idea hotel chocolat selectors are 3 for £12 so £4 each and they have a few christmassy ones as well as the usual fancy chocolates.

Yogaandcocoa · 02/11/2021 07:32

As a Christmas decoration they might be ok OP but just be mindful of not buying useless tat (sorry to be blunt)

Last year I gave a tiny sunflower growing kit and a bottle light to each, about £8 in total and they seemed to love them. Got them from Amazon I think

Yes Studio mugs are reduced to £2 in house of Fraser and they are very nice: Link

Don't buy the wires, many will just bin them. Go for stuff that they can eat/use or regift. But I hate waste so this is the stuff of nightmares for me. We don't do adult presents. Although if I was there last year, I'd have told you not to get me anything this year.

Yogaandcocoa · 02/11/2021 09:31

A box of chocolates or biscuits would he fine OP but I can understand you wanting to get something different.

crumpet · 02/11/2021 09:38

Wine?

Yogaandcocoa · 02/11/2021 09:41

Or something slightly different to chocolates and biscuits how about pick n mix sweets? A bit different but most people like them and still consumable.

Or you could get a mug or cup or bottle and fill with sweets.

You can get things online. I order from Sweetzy. If you sign up to the mailing lists a lot of them do deals on some evenings and weekends.

Last year I brought cards from Etsy which had a glass Xmas tree ornament attached. Think they were a £6 a card, which was also their Christmas card

TheSpottedZebra · 02/11/2021 10:26

Im a hater of tat too, so if you must get something, what about some bee friendly seeds?

Palavah · 02/11/2021 10:30

I'd put the wire in the bin too.

I suggest a jar of chutney or pickle from the local farmer's market, ideal for boxing day cold cuts.

Individual edible gingerbread tree decoration?

Nothing to keep or display.

Our HR bought silly gifts each year and the majority was left behind or thrown away. So one year we run out of budget and just bought Christmas chocolates, lots of positive comments and we never went back to gifts.

You could go early and give everyone a nice chocolate advent calendar.

Mumdiva99 · 02/11/2021 15:59

What you can see from the answers here is that everyone is different. Hopefully your team will appreciate the gesture. Don't stress too much.

I think that is an excellent idea. I know not everyone likes chocolate but as PP said, you're never going to please everyone.

DockOTheBay · 02/11/2021 17:22

@underthestairsbears yes it was before Christmas. I think black Friday but possibly not. They were down to £17 at one point.

Yes this reminds me of the thread about teacher presents which went something like this:

Poster 1: how about a mug?

Poster 2: never get a mug, always wine.

Poster 3: please don't buy wine

Topbird29 · 02/11/2021 17:38

Lindt choc reindeer and a scratchcard?

kitchenhail · 02/11/2021 17:40

I would be polite and appreciative of a lot of the things suggested here but would not want mugs, decorations, bottle lights, wish bracelets or anything like that. If you gave me consumables I'd be happy but still wouldn't want them in a mug or vase or anything. I'd be grateful for a lottery ticket, chocolate, sweets etc or if you're all in one office some treats for the office one day.

Grumpyosaurus · 02/11/2021 17:44

One of my colleagues is getting a packet of Sharpies this year (I work in a school).

Nice soap goes down well. I'd appreciate bubblebath.

Fun stationery - coloured paperclips, stuff that will be used.

Also booze minis, cans of G&T,

We had this once and often the calendar was shared with the children/partners so everyone had something from it.
