My nearly 6 year old reliably says she wants Santa to bring two orchard games for Christmas that are for younger kids. She might enjoy them briefly but not all year. They’re not that expensive but it won’t be good value.
Do we get them as that’s what she’s asking Santa for? Or does Santa choose some other game that she’ll like more and hope it doesn’t ‘ruin Christmas’
Thanks

She’s also asked for a pj mask chocolate egg that she saw at a hotel while on holiday in Greece that are not readily available in the UK and a room on the broom game that is out of production

Ds 6 really wanted the sound effects ice cream cart last year.... Way too old for it but it was in his letter to Santa. Played with it a few times but he knew Santa had gotten his letter !! Have coerced him onto more age appropriate things prior to letter going off this year!!

Takingabreakagain · 18/10/2021 13:56

Can you get her one of the games then she'll know Santa has read the letter and then an game more suitable for older kids (because Santa knows how much of a big girl she is now)
Maybe have a look round for a second hand version so you aren't spending much on something that won't last

wouldthatbeworse · 18/10/2021 14:02

We have that ice cream cart! More played with by the 2 year old these days.
At least this year’s poor choice will be little brother’s gain!

@Takingabreakagain this is good advice. eBay is my friend here

Which games?

Mrsjayy · 18/10/2021 14:06

I would get her ,1 of the games sometimes Santa brings frivolous things just because.

TheOccupier · 18/10/2021 14:06

Depends a bit on your budget but orchard games are not generally expensive. I would ask her again nearer the time (2 months is a long time for a 5yo) and if she still wants them in December, get them.

Have a look at ebay for the pj mask egg and the room on the broom game, you might be lucky!

Brollywasntneededafterall · 18/10/2021 14:08

Don't be worried about getting second hand!! Xmas paper and lack of box isn't noticed anyway!! Ds has got a car track off ebay put away!! Dh reckons a mile of track. Really hope he is joking!!

wouldthatbeworse · 18/10/2021 14:12

The pj masks eggs are available 6 for £10 on eBay. I’ll prob just buy them. The room on a broom game cube thing is def not around (we saw it in the gift shop at Chessington) but there’s a newer version which is prob more suitable for a 5-6 year old anyway

Thankfully money is ok this year (dreading the teen years) it’s more the waste. But I’ve got no reservations about second hand so that makes me feel better.

Orchard games aren’t that expensive and my DD liked a couple of them for a couple of years after the age limit on the box - and still didn’t really want to let go of them - so I’d probably get them.

wouldthatbeworse · 18/10/2021 14:14

We do main presents from mum and dad so I’m also happy to tell her Santa can’t bring everything she asks for. But I guess I better get one or two bits right!

There’s a room on the broom game available on Amazon, is that the one she wants?!

Viviennemary · 18/10/2021 14:16

If the thing she wants isn't expensive just get it.

wouldthatbeworse · 18/10/2021 14:17

Thank. You guys are much kinder than the AIBU lot

You've got a 2 year old so the games can be used by them too

wouldthatbeworse · 18/10/2021 14:20

@SpringSparrow sadly not, it’s the 4 in 1 game cube

Seemingly only now sold in the Chessington gift shop (and we’re not going back)

If you call the gift shop they might post it out?

EverNapping · 18/10/2021 14:33

If they don't cost much and cost isn't the issue I'd buy them for her anyway. Think of it like stocking fillers.

Totally agree. My nephew was overjoyed when he got lego one year. He got a big cardboard box with layers of tissue paper inside and the lego in the middle, all 2kg of it.

It had gone a full cycle in my washing machine before being packed up. Over 10 years later he still says that was the best present ever and the outside box was wrapped up in many layers of paper about 10 layers (topsy turvy style) which added to the excitement.

He was 4 at the time and over the next 5+ years the favourite activities apart from building things, to take the full box and empty it over his head or others and he would build obstacles courses in his room to the bed to try and stop someone coming in to get him up for school etc,

In the past few years he has passed these on to his twin nephews who are discovering the same job. He didn't ask until after he was ready to pass on to nephews about where to get another assorted box to add for the bits that had been lost over the years (now 10+) and realised that the bits were second hand, but it was all in the presentation. He didn't care either as he has an understanding about money but knew it came from places of love. As as a child, money is irrelevant m

YerAWizardHarry · 18/10/2021 15:58

I’m a teacher and the kids I’ve worked with (up to around 10 I would say!) still enjoy the Orchard Toy board games. They’re often a bit silly/funny but they’re cheap and quick/easy to play

reluctantbrit · 18/10/2021 16:38

We had some Orchard games for longer than the age range on the box as at one point we could leave DD and a friend alone with it instead of playing with them. It was also good to just fill the odd 1/2 hour when other games would take too long or DD was getting too tired.

Also with a younger child you will use it further. I would go for one of them.

elQuintoConyo · 23/10/2021 14:59

10yo DS still loves playing Pigs in Pants Grin

Findahouse21 · 23/10/2021 15:02

I'm going to Chessington soon, can I help at all?
