Looking for recipe ideas for sprouts. No vegetable reaches my Christmas table untouched but I've not seen anything fabulous with sprouts. Please share your best dishes.

Sprouts are hideous, there is nothing fabulous to be done with them OP.

Streaky bacon cut into thin strips, pan fried. Mixed with cooked sprouts and a small amount of the fat from the bacon. Works well with all cabbage too!!

PesosBandage · 12/10/2021 19:20

Enough bacon bits and parmesan to totally disguise the taste of the sprout, and they're lovely ;)

RubyFakeLips · 12/10/2021 19:21

I quite like them so I beg to differ! Maybe you just don't know they're fabulous yet.

I hold out hope.

Me too. Sprinkle some white pepper over them. Heaven.

CommanderBurnham · 12/10/2021 19:25

I blanch them, then thinly slice them. Then heat a pan with butter and add crushed garlic. Add the sprouts, stir fry for about 5 mins and finish with sesame seeds.

Artichokeleaves · 12/10/2021 19:25

Halve and roast them in goose or duck fat with garlic cloves, pepper and salt

CoffeeBeansGalore · 12/10/2021 19:25

Par boil then finish off with baked chestnuts in a pan with butter.

Tom Kerridge's roasted sprouts with orange and onion marmalade is the best - it has even converted the non sprout eaters in this house.

This is the link, but it is The Times so you need a subscription (boo). The basic idea is that you fry slowly some onions Once super soft add brandy, orange zest & juice, some crimbo spices, and sugar ( I pop a little vinegar in but I can't remember if that is in the original recipe). Quarter your sprouts - rinse them & sling them into a super hot oven for 10 minutes. Add a good dollop of the marmalade, stir through and roast for a little longer.

Fight the crowds off, ignore the roasties and the turkey

Boil a pan of water add salt
Take sprouts and take off outer leaves and put little crosses in the bottom with a sharp knife ...Take prepared sprouts over to your green binand tip them in.

Open freezer, get out peas and tip some into boiling water ..
Cook peas, drain, serve with butter and a sprig of mint, if liked.

CoffeeBeans, I approve, thats how I normally do mine. Bloody love a chestnut too.

My DH has a Times subscription so will definitely give the Tom Kerridge recipe a go if its that good.

Sprouts are the absolutely BEST vegetable! Pop them on to boil now and they'll be perfect on Christmas day!

AdaColeman · 12/10/2021 19:39

Cook the sprouts till just done. Drain well, then put through a mouli food mill or a blender to create a rough purée. Do all this ahead of time.
To finish, stir in some double cream or creme fraiche, seasoning and grated nutmeg, and warm gently through.
You get a beautiful pale green vegetable dish, and the purée action releases the intense flavour of the sprouts.

Oysterbabe · 12/10/2021 19:50

Parboil them then toss them in marmite and roast. They are lovely.

maybelaterdear · 12/10/2021 21:50

Really nice halved & roasted.olive oil & maldron sea salt.

ChipsAndKetchup · 12/10/2021 21:52

Shred them in a food processor and fry with bacon, red onion, Worcestershire sauce, a dash of white wine, butter and sage. Season well. Delish.

PaolaDiLorenzo · 12/10/2021 21:53

Roasted with squash and red onion, they look so colourfu and taste delicious.
They also make a lovely soup.

GrumpyPanda · 12/10/2021 21:53

I blanch them, then oven-roast with parmesan and some maple syrup or honey.

DandyHighwayWoman · 12/10/2021 23:00

You’re too late for this year OP, you should have put them on to boil in July Grin

bogeythefungusman · 13/10/2021 10:10

Slice and gently fry with chopped bacon and black pudding. When cooked through add a splash of maple syrup or cream.

FruityPastille · 13/10/2021 10:18

I roast them, 25-30 minutes, covered with olive oil, garlic salt with some onion chopped in - delicious!

goose1964 · 13/10/2021 10:43

I'm a sprout hated but we went somewhere where they were shredded and baked with bacon and other stuff. They were surprisingly nice.

Bancha · 13/10/2021 10:58

Slice in half, cook them face down in (a good amount of) garlic olive oil until a little browned, add salt, pepper, lemon juice, and chilli flakes. I bloody love sprouts!
