Have you ever done a wreath making workshop?

Just checked some local options here, they’re around £70pp! I was quite shocked, I offered to take my friend to one but I wasn’t expecting to pay £140 Grin
But I really want to try and I think it will be fun. I’m not very creative or artistic so I’m hoping if mine falls to bits before it’s off the table they might give me a spare made up one?!
Anyone ever done their own and want to show me a photo?
Just to add, I’m not interested in buying the materials and doing it myself at home, I really want to go elsewhere and be given what I need. I don’t begrudge the cost in the slightest, I buy one from the Christmas tree farm every year and pay £30-£40 so in my head I think I was expecting to pay that considering I was actually making it myself Grin the cost is beside the point though, I’ll pay whatever it is, just want to have a look at others’ creations Flowers

DH has booked us onto a local one for £45 each (one for our door, one for my aunt’s grave). I found it by looking at local florists; loads of them do workshops. And we’ve got a UK break in December and we’re doing another one then for a little bit cheaper (one for in laws door and another for a grave in Wales).

I think I’m going to have a go at a bauble wreath as well.

There was one a couple of years ago I wanted to go to then didn't really wished I had. It was about £60 IIRC, at a local cafe I love, included lunch and a food demo as well as the wreath (which looked gorgeous in the pictures, really really big) so I thought it was good value for a whole day out and you end up with a lovely wreath.

clary · 10/10/2021 20:09

This is the kind of thing they made

I did it few years ago, it was £40pp. It was fun, my friend and I enjoyed it and then went for coffee and cake. I wouldn't pay £70pp though!! You can order a kit online and organise your own workshop at home with friends and get merry xx

HelloDulling · 10/10/2021 20:13

I’ve done it a few times. £40-50. It’s really fun!

Ouchiehelpneeded · 10/10/2021 20:16

No use for you, OP, but the Cardiff parks department run wreath making workshops using cuttings from the parks. I think it's £12 per wreath. I always think of it as the start of Christmas. I was gutted when it didn't happen last year (although obv I wasn't expecting it to!).

I've just signed up to one - in Oxford and run by a wedding and events florist so it's rather pricey at £75 but still within the going rate I'd say. And it's popular - runs for 4 days in total with morning and afternoon sessions and there was only 4 spaces left when I booked

TheChosenTwo · 10/10/2021 21:12

@clary that’s lovely and exactly the kind of thing I’m after!

Oh @Ouchiehelpneeded this is the sort of thing that we spend £35-40 on every year! Lovely too Smile

@PineappleSmith I’m just waiting back on date confirmation with a friend and I then I’m booking us into one at a florist. £75 but I think it’ll be worth it, I’ve had a nice experience from there both times I’ve used the florist.

This is the wreath I made last year using the techniques and some of the kit I had used in the workshop pre covid

And this is the one actually in the workshop: as you can see lots of lovely dried stuff that I managed to destroy over the year and couldn’t reuse ;-)

I’ve booked one this year, it’s £40 per head at our local pub. My first time doing it and I’m super excited!!

PaulaTrilloe · 11/10/2021 06:56

Our local community garden cost £20

Jumpingintochristmas · 11/10/2021 10:01

The one with the white background was my first class in 2017 and the kit and other wreath were last years as the workshop was on zoom. The 1st was an oasis hoop, 2nd moss.

I used last years as a candle holder as DM had gifted us one already even though she knows I do a workshop every year Xmas Hmm

PM me if you’re in South London! This has inspired me to run a fundraising one for the Women’s Centre where I work. Planning stages atm but 23rd or 30th November at 2pm. £30 including materials and refreshments.

languagelover96 · 11/10/2021 11:01

You could try making your own Xmassy wreaths.

JumperandJacket · 11/10/2021 15:44

If you're just keen on having a homemade wreath rather than the workshop itself, they are really easy to do. A youtube video and a tenner for the ring and moss, then gather the rest yourself.

CurryLover55 · 11/10/2021 15:49

I’ve seen one for £35 here in Cornwall which includes mulled wine, seasonal nibbles & a £10 voucher to use in January ( the lady is a beautician).

TertiusLydgate · 11/10/2021 15:51

Can’t find a pic, but I make my own. I usually copy something I’ve liked online. I also make them as a table centrepiece for a pillar candle.

They’re so easy to make. I baulk at the idea of paying £65 (going rate here) to sit with clucking women and cheap booze.

BuddhaAtSea · 11/10/2021 15:51

I went to one a few years ago, I’ve been making my own ever since. Thoroughly recommend it!

Topbird29 · 11/10/2021 17:33

We've done it a couple of times locally just at one of our houses. Wasn't a proper course, and think the person organising just knows a local florist so got the basics from her. The big circle wire, the pine to push through and wires to attach bits. We paid about £15 each, and then bought our own extra bits to add - I got some mini baubles in wilkos, some dried cinnamon stick things from local hardware shop, and you can buy wreath making accessories kits. Was really nice, we had mulled wine, snacks, shared our bits, and all ended up with individual wreaths. If you can't find a class at a reasonable price, DIY is OK. It's not too difficult at all Smile

Here is my effort

@Floralnomad my mum’s the same she would never have one it means funerals to her. I’m making massive crafty ones this year they are oval she’s more accepting of that shape. But still wouldn’t put one on her door.
