Interested to hear the wishlists.

I'm also looking for suggestions of slightly more luxury versions of toiletries that your DD's enjoy for my DD.

OP posts:
Innocenta · 04/10/2021 18:59

@bizzey does she seem to like luxury or is she very 'eco'?

LateDecemberBackInLowB12 · 04/10/2021 19:01

@MrsDoctorDear I got this one it was a bit cheaper than that when I got it though so shop around.

bizzey · 04/10/2021 19:11

@Innocenta...
Ohh interesting ..my instinct is "not that eco". ..and a bit of luxury would be nice .

I am new to girlfriends and vegans !

When we had a family BBQ ...I bought a small disposal BBQ for her food ...but she said it would be fine cooked on main BBQ where meat had been cooked .
Maybe she did not want to make a fuss ?
( Possibly not the point of your question !)

I think a little bit of luxury for a uni student is nice .

JenniferWooley · 04/10/2021 19:11

Things in DD's lists are:

The new evergreen cloud 9 straighteners
Molten Brown
Lounge stuff - I refuse to buy the underwear but their actual loungewear is good quality & I got the cardigan for £24 in the sale which DD2 will adore
Ugg slippers
Liz Earle skincare
Pandora
Perfume - DD1's fave has been discontinued & she has 2 drips & a dribble left in current bottle but I managed to get the last 2 100ml bottles in John Lewis for half the usual price so will win the best mum ever award 🥰

MrsDoctorDear · 04/10/2021 19:26

@LateDecemberBackInLowB12 brilliant thanks!

Innocenta · 04/10/2021 19:28

Okay, here are just a few initial thoughts for people with vegan DDs or girlfriends to buy for - these are all good brands, varying in price, which I will indicate.

The Ordinary - mostly vegan, can be hard to buy for another person’s skin, though! I recommend the rosehip seed oil as a starting point, but if you know DD’s skin concerns, could be more specific. [Affordable, but modern/not a bad gift]

Glossier is mostly NOT vegan but does label the vegan products clearly on each product page. The milky jelly cleanser is usually vegan, and some shades of the cream eyeshadow (Skywash) if you want to give Glossier gifts. Also the lip gloss is all vegan!
Cloud Paint is not vegan! [Expensive but not 'luxury']

Le Labo is entirely vegan and cruelty free.

Hourglass - all their brushes are vegan. Their makeup products have now all been reformulated to be 100% vegan (most already were) but it is conceivable some older non vegan ones might still be in (eg) TK Maxx. Good options are the blushes, powders, ambient lighting palette, primer if DD uses it, mascara, brushes, lip oil. (Their products are v pale and some American customers feel the brand is racist, so anyone with DDs very deep in social justice culture might want to avoid, and it’s maybe not the best for women with deeper skin tones if it may look ashy.) [Luxury low end]

Malin & Goetz - all vegetarian, not all vegan. Vegan products are labelled on the product page on their brand website. [Luxury low-end]

Aether Beauty - all vegan. US based but I originally found it via them being stocked in Free People, so clearly they are importing a bit! ['Clean' beauty / niche brand / mid end]

Charlotte Tilbury is a mixed bag and it can be hard to find out for sure if something is vegan. But she does have vegan products, it’s just not an ‘easy win’. Some of the big name lipsticks and blushes are definitely vegan, and you can get vegan concealer & foundation for sure (you’d have to know DD’s shade match!). [Mid end]

Happy to clarify vegan status of anything if I can be helpful at all :)

Innocenta

Thank you !

GoWalkabout · 04/10/2021 19:39

Washable make up pad set was gratefully received and used frequently, plus a bamboo soap holder and she wanted to try a solid shampoo. I buy those from Earthbits.

Tulips15 · 04/10/2021 19:44

Dd is 18, she is having
voucher for her hairdresser (£50)
mancure voucher (£25)
Cheap 'oodie' (£20)
Weighted blanket(£20)
Bag of toiletries (High st stuff)
Last yr main gift was- she had an over night stay at spa ( I went too as a 2 person deal) £100 for both inc stay, spa facilities, 2x treatments, dinner and bfast!

Sadik · 04/10/2021 21:47

Following as I'm struggling myself, so far my main thought is some local wool for her crochet projects. Bamboo socks, shower gel, book, mini pack of booja booja truffles for stocking.

floofycroissant · 04/10/2021 21:50

A lot less glamorous but when I was a similar age mum bought me really good quality tweezers and nail clippers and I still use them a decade later. Good quality makeup brushes or a silk hairband for holding back hair whilst doing her makeup are a similar ilk.silk pillow case is also a great one - can improves hair breakage, stops sleepy face ceases and even help clear skin

londonmummy1966 · 06/10/2021 23:18

@bizzey I'm sure that if you were to ask on the Black mumsnet section some of the ladies there could suggest some good afro hair products

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 07/10/2021 05:25

@Snowdropsandbluebells What electruc blanket did you buy please? DD7 would like one and I don't know where to begin!

@UnLunDun Your daughter sounds awesome!

UnLunDun · 07/10/2021 08:27

@HomeSliceKnowsBest thank you! I think she can feel a little lonely in her “likes” at times, bless her. Born in the wrong era. She’s utterly amazing and I want her to always feel accepted and admired by me. For next Christmas I’d really like to save up for a dressmaker’s mannequin for her, she’d love that…not sure how I could conceal what it is in wrapping paper though. 😁

JollyHostess · 07/10/2021 08:32

Washable san pro! At her request 😄

JollyHostess · 07/10/2021 08:35

Oh and always Chuck in a few face mask for both DDs in their 20s.

Normal/vegan chocolate, personalised Nutella or Marmite, lovely fluffy socks, knickers, nip& fab products, Lush, interesting herbs and spices, lovely shower gel, little candles, lip balms a plenty,

The pick mix Lindor went down very well last year!

Fifthtimelucky · 07/10/2021 10:59

Neither of mine are earning anything (one is teacher training and the other has just started a Masters) so it will be money plus stocking fillers. I'm considering a spa day or vouchers too.

@Ionlydomassiveones

“I don’t think it’s rude to ask for what luxury toiletries your dd’s like.”

You made it sound like ‘whatever your dd’s enjoy - mine will want something more superior so please suggest better for my dd’

Apologies if that’s not what you meant.

My dd20 likes niche stuff she orders and pays for for herself - but for Xmas I usually buy her whatever looks boojie from Space NK, John Lewis beauty, Cult Beauty or even Kylie Cosmetics. The problem is that some of the real high end toiletries and beauty products can cost a fortune and don’t actually look that much when unwrapped at Xmas. So I always buy something that looks special and what she probably wouldn’t buy herself - like a great palette, Beauty brushes, high end perfume and I always get her a Soap & Glory body butter from Boots - I know it’s not ‘luxury’ per se but the ‘call of the fruity’ one smells divine and makes the whole house smell amazing when she wafts through.

I don’t think that’s what the OP reads like.

They asked what type of luxury products poster’s DDs like, so she can get some inspiration and buy the same/similar. Not better!
