Teen boys Christmas Eve box

I'm lost this year about what to put in. I've never gone large - when they were small it was new pjs, sticker book, tree decoration and some sweets and a dvd. Now they don't wear pyjamas (last year or two I've chucked in Santa socks instead) and tend to watch the same films as us so I don't think Jingle All The Way or similar going to cut it anymore! Last year I put in a quiz game which was good fun but they're 13 and 14 now so not sure if I should just give up and do a tree decoration (tradition) and some sweets (always welcome). Any ideas?

I'd put in a fun novelty t shirt, sweets and an ornament. Maybe a book if they're readers?

RedBubble has t shirts for just about any interest...doesn't matter what their hobby is, there'll be one on there.

FortunesFave · 03/10/2021 07:43

Oh they might appreciate some manly bath stuff?

Starlightstarbright1 · 03/10/2021 07:45

I do a hot chocolate- last year chocolate bomb.
I also put popcorn in for the moovie and a book. My teen still wears pj's so i put them in

myheartskippedabeat · 03/10/2021 07:49

Playing cards 🎴

They do love to read but they always get new books in their stockings with some shower gel/body spray so didn't really want to double up. Just browsing Amazon and added the Friends trivial pursuit questions and an indoors smores kit to my basket so that'll do 😁
RedBubble is a good shout - thank you!

Time to switch up the Christmas film to Die Hard (Christmas classic in many’s eyes) and maybe posh hot chocolate stuff, nice mug and some socks.

FortunesFave · 03/10/2021 08:01

What are their hobbies OP? Or what are they 'into'?

My teenage DDs were inordinately pleased with a last minute hot chocolate and mug set because it came with a tiny whisk!

I do our Christmas Eve Box on Dec 1st - mine are adults now so it makes more sense , I don't need to cal them down and get them bathed , in clean pyjamas and fighting the urge to stay awake .
Getting teenagers to roll out of their pits before 9am in challange enough Xmas Grin

When my DD wanted a robe from TopShop and pyjamas from VSPink it made more sense to let her wear them through December .

My list is: (I have big Christmas bags that I've re-used for the last 4 years )
Winter pyjamas for DD
lounge joggers and TShirts + pyjamas for DS
underwear (usually Primark+a brand for DD / branded ones for DS - TLMaxx is good)
Socks (not Christmassey ones for DS )
Showergel
Chocolate advent calendar (Cadbury one abiout £3)
Jar of sweets ( 1 litre Kilner jar which I re-use in the kitchen)
Day 1 of DD Beauty Advent Calendar
Big bar of Galaxy/Cadburys

So really sweets and things they'd need anyway .

I don't do stocking gifts now . All their presents tend to fit in a stocking anyway so they have their old rwinkly light ones .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/10/2021 09:12

Mine get very competitive over Christmas Dominoes Xmas Grin

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 03/10/2021 18:10

All my teens like bath bombs

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/10/2021 20:05

I was walking past Lush yesterday with DD , she announced she didn't like the SnowFairy stuff now .... she liked it when she "was little" !

(I used to buy her the wand and a bath bomb for DS . Need a re think )

Lovemusic33 · 03/10/2021 20:34

We stopped doing Christmas Eve boxes, neither dc wears PJ’s anymore and they don’t drink hot chocolate. We just order pizza and watch a Christmas film.

Our eldest is 13 and we don't do the Xmas Eve box now but he used to love it when he was little! We have other little ones but now do the box throughout December.
For him, he gets Xmas pyjamas - last year I asked if he still wanted them and he said yes as it's Christmas.
He gets Xmas socks and boxers, and hot chocolate bits - powder, mini marshmallows, etc. And some Xmas chocolates and he's more than happy!

Ragwort · 04/10/2021 10:52

Not for a Christmas Eve box, but I still get my 20 year old a box of his favourite M & S chocolate cereal as a treat Grin.

theleafandnotthetree · 04/10/2021 10:59

You could you know, just step away from this nonsense (and it is nonsense). With everything we know now about the impact of mindless consumerism, I can't believe people actually give this kind of stuff headspace, much less WORRY about what to put in Christmas Eve boxes (in early October!). We are truly doomed....

CoffeeChocolateWine · 04/10/2021 11:09

My DS is 13, but I also have DDs aged 9 and 3 so the Christmas Eve box is still very much a thing in our house. He wouldn’t want to miss out!

This year they are all getting fake oodies rather than PJs which I know he’ll love. Then hot chocolate bombs, popcorn (I saw a mention on another thread of pop-a-cobs from ZaraMama which look really fun), a dvd is still standard but will probably put a small game in as an alternative (we all quite like the Exit escape room games but they take a while) and a book for my little one.

Another idea for those who will have a fire going on Christmas Eve are these which teenage boys might enjoy.

mumontherun14 · 04/10/2021 14:16

I do for ds 17. New jammies (mens Avengers ones), Nice toiletries, cosy slipper socks, funny christmas socks. Large bar of his favourite Dairy Milk, large hot chocolate mug, marshmallows. I'm just hoping he'll be gracing us with his presence on Christmas Eve this year he has a better social life than us! Given up on music books and films as he downloads everything he wants xx

If you want a DVD have you done the film Krampus? it's more of a horror-style Xmas film but seems ok for teens, my 12 year old liked it.

or maybe just things like Die Hard? (people swear its a Xmas movie lol)

or if they are older teens Childs Play?

Lovemusic33 · 04/10/2021 16:44

I agree with this. We only did them when kids were little to try and calm them down and bribe them to go to sleep. Now they are older it’s just a extra thing that is not needed, especially for teenagers which are hard enough to buy for as it is 🤣.
Fizbosshoes · 04/10/2021 16:55

I've never got into Christmas eve boxes but I don't have an issue with them per se. However I think I too would struggle now kids are older (stocking presents are harder now theyve grown out of little toys like hot wheels or trinkets like hair bands etc., stationary etc. )

Fallhappy1 · 04/10/2021 17:10

Maybe do a family Christmas eve box instead of individual ones? Movie to watch together, popcorn, maybe an activity to do together such as building a gingerbread house.

OnTheHillNotOverIt · 04/10/2021 20:32

Cocktails and mocktails? Ingredients for homemade mulled cider with lots of apple juice? Sit around fire pit worked for us depending on weather. Some years pub tea with friends? Shake it up
