I'm lost this year about what to put in. I've never gone large - when they were small it was new pjs, sticker book, tree decoration and some sweets and a dvd. Now they don't wear pyjamas (last year or two I've chucked in Santa socks instead) and tend to watch the same films as us so I don't think Jingle All The Way or similar going to cut it anymore! Last year I put in a quiz game which was good fun but they're 13 and 14 now so not sure if I should just give up and do a tree decoration (tradition) and some sweets (always welcome). Any ideas?

Ours are always new mug and some sort of 'fun' hot chocolate, new pjs and whichever of slippers, onsie or dressing gown is needed by ds2 (12). Ds1 is 14 and only wears summer style pjs but I do put them in. He doesn't wear any of the other stuff so I get things like new bedding in a style he likes (lovely set with a map on it last year that he loved), fluffy blanket or a cushion with something he like - one year it was one with an eagle, which he loved.

@theleafandnotthetree

You could you know, just step away from this nonsense (and it is nonsense). With everything we know now about the impact of mindless consumerism, I can't believe people actually give this kind of stuff headspace, much less WORRY about what to put in Christmas Eve boxes (in early October!). We are truly doomed....
Agree. Christmas Eve boxes are consumerism gone stark raving mad IMO.

How much bedding, cushions, mugs etc do people need? We must be really stingy as we make bedding last for years

Ragwort · 05/10/2021 07:34

Agree - there are other threads on here urging us all to be more 'green' and yet there are endless suggestions for buying mindless 'stuff'. I now only buy presents such as chocolates, soap, biscuits, wine etc that can be used ... none of us need more bedding, mugs, throws, socks etc.

Or you can afford good quality? I often can't...and cheaper things wear out so fast. I'm not only talking about fading but holes. And broken snaps

Good for you. I like mugs and don't need to be told when to buy them by you thanks. I also don't need to be told when I need new bedding or socks! Hmm

I always get a Christmas Lush shower gel, some of those furry lined socks, something novelty like flashing Christmas sunglasses, some chocolates, a small pocket game or something like a tattoo pen, which they will doubtless use to write horrible words on each other. And I always get a gingerbread house!

@loveforplants those cubes look amazing and perfect for my dd but is there a UK stockist? Website is an international one so adds on $10 for shipping.
