So DD will be 13 just before xmas. I have no idea what to get her! She's also autistic so not into a lot of typical teen stuff.

Here's some examples of what she's NOT into:

Clothes/shoes/bags
Make up
Colouring in stuff
Craft stuff
Lego

She sort of likes bath bombs, not perfumes etc. She still likes Harry Potter but doesn't wear the merchandise anymore.

A few things she loves:

Roblox
Exercise ball (she bounces for comfort)
Fidget type toys

Any suggestions welcome (please 😂)

Our ASD teens (DC and cousins) like Rummikub (maths-based game)

CrackerGal · 28/09/2021 14:09

Robux gift card if she likes roblox?

Beakerandbungle · 28/09/2021 14:16

Would she like this Harry Potter bath bomb and other stuff set posted on the other thread?

Fitbit
Smart watch
Ipad/tablet
Cooking/baking equipment
Kindle
Camera
Drone (if legal?)
Subscription for premium Spotify
Themed pack of playing cards
Board games
So

mibbelucieachwell · 28/09/2021 14:21

Hoverboard?

ChirpyChirp · 28/09/2021 14:22

Does she like sensory stuff? A weighted blanket or lovely soft fleece blanket.
Things for her room - posters, LED lights, lava lamp, bean bag?
Bluetooth speaker and Spotify subscription.
Board game (Splendour, Catan?)
Popcorn/waffle/toastie maker

I have an 11 yr old with ASD and his interests are never quite in line with his peers!

herecomesthsun · 28/09/2021 14:27

They also like switches

herecomesthsun · 28/09/2021 14:28

has anyone mentioned Rubiks cubes?

ZandraPlackett · 28/09/2021 17:30

There is great sensory and fidget toys - dark tents with uv pens, bubble lights, lava lamp, weighted blankets. My daughter loves Bluetooth headphones when she is bouncing. What about subscriptions or membership to a trampoline park or zoo? My daughter also loves a weekend trip in a premier inn with afternoon tea.

Tiggles · 28/09/2021 17:32

That was the age my ds with asd really got into rubik cube. I got him a book on how to solve the 3 by 3. Now he does all the different size ones and different shapes. Has one that connects to his phone to test his speed etc.

toolazytothinkofausername · 28/09/2021 19:01

Can you ask her to create an Amazon wish list? Explain you can't buy everything, but at least this will ensure a few of the presents she receives will definitely be what she wants :)

CatrinVennastin · 28/09/2021 22:17

I know you said no to clothes but would she like an Oodie? My daughter has sensory issues around clothes and she loves hers. It is pricey but it is so soft and she loves the feel of it.

quitecontrary123 · 29/09/2021 22:27

I was also going to suggest an Oodie. They do some oversized hoodies in Dunelm that are lovely and soft for a fraction of the price.

Didiplanthis · 30/09/2021 02:15

I have 2 x DC with ASD and 1 with dyspraxia and sensory issues.

Mine love

Peanut Balls.. double ended exercise balls ,more secure bounce/bounce and roll/ bounce against a wall.

Weighted soft yoga balls we got 0.5 kg ones as one has severe hypermobility so didn't want heavy. Really good to play catch with if stressed/anxious but can't communicate as its interactive and you are 'being' with them but the weight gives calming sensory feed back..

Depending on her sensory needs.. weighted blanket in soft minky fabric or if that is too much for her a lap pad or shoulder pad. She might like a lavender scented heavy-ish microwavable shoulder wrap. Although too much sensory overload for mine .

Theraputty.

Neon squashy stress balls

Infinity light

Lava or bubble lamp.

Soft moving projector type lamp but not too defined.. we have a water type one.

Decent fidget toy 'pack' - we made our own individual ones in Nice bags as the cheap ready done ones had stuff i knew mine wouldn't use or would trigger them.

Wobble board good for standing on to watch TV.

Switch ... we did switch light as the stress of interaction playing together triggered major meltdown. Good for decompression and self regulation as can take off into a corner.

Oodie... had £25 off when I bought one this week for DD 12.

Lush bath bomb set.. dd 12 knows they are stupidly expensive so knows they are quite a big present but she uses one as special 'treat' good if stressed or anxious as acknowledges need for a special relaxing bath without referencing the anxiety ! Makes her feel understood if we suggest it.

Didiplanthis · 30/09/2021 02:15

Oo... sorry that was a bit long !!

PileOfBooks · 30/09/2021 02:40

Ooh joining in here.

Oodie was a success here (so expensive but was from a relative.)

It used to be lego kits but that interest has gone.
Do they have a special interest? Mine is currently obsessed with a particular tv show so I have got some brandrd bits tbat relate to that.

I'm going to look for some fidget/sensory little toys on amazon. She loves those.

I do find she is very precise about what is acceptable/what isn't. So specific item of clothing is desired and ordered this year.

We have a projector light for the ceiling she likes.

Hoping for some ideas too!

LunchWithAGruffalo · 30/09/2021 07:56

It's all about the discrete sensory/fidget things here. Dd loves her spinner rings, which look just like any other ring so she can wear them places she wouldn't take other stress toys. Bike chain fidget toys that can be used in your pocket have worked well too.

PhantomErik · 30/09/2021 09:58

Fibre optic Lamp
Teddy bear bedding
Oodie (fake or real!)
Bath bombs/shower steamer
Squishmallows
Baking kit
Fidget toys
Fimo
Jewellery making kit

Funko Pops might be worth a look if she likes Harry Potter, they're small figurines.

Roblox gift card

and like above, i'd suggest an oodie, my DD loves hers (we have a 'fake' one like this link)

I'd also suggest squishmallows, you can get various sizes (smaller ones you can hold in your hand and squeeze to huge ones)

Lovemusic33 · 04/10/2021 14:45

Things my dd likes…
Kenetic sand (the scented ones)

Fidget toys, yesterday her dad bought her a small puzzle snake which she’s now glued too but she loves the pop toys too.

A A4 note book and pens (she doodles a lot).

Art case from Hobby craft (she chose this a few weeks ago and uses it every day).

Spirograph

Light up cushion (from Argos I think)

Weighted blanket.

Lush bubble bar or bath bombs

This year she’s after tickets to Lion King the musical, there is an autistic viewing but it’s not until next august, I’m still tempted to book it as she hasn’t really asked for anything big this year and her sister would love it too.

ilovepuggies · 04/10/2021 14:48

My 8 year old (also autistic) loves bouncing on a gym ball especially after school.
He also loves going on our 6 foot plum trampoline outside and will take his Bluetooth speaker which he connects to Spotify.
So small outdoor trampoline and Bluetooth speaker?

Dogatetheleftovers · 04/10/2021 15:05

My dd loves some light strips we bought from Amazon. They’re self adhesive and we’ve put them all around the top of her bedroom walls. She then uses a remote control to change the light colours, every colour of the rainbow is possible. She really loves them and they help her to relax a bit. She also likes a light box for tracing drawings. Otherwise gadgets of any kind are usually popular, eg battery operated mini whisk for milkshake, Swiss Army credit card mini tool set.

8Sense8 · 04/10/2021 15:10

When my ASD dd was 1e she liked those magnetic balls that you can click and make shapes with. (The come with other metal shapes too). As pp have said, an Oodie. She also liked Bath bombs. How about a kit to make her own? She was also into making cakes. Things from Paperchase were also on her wishlist. Nice erasers and things
