Would you buy toys for a 9 yo?

I've been pondering this. DD (9 and a half) is my youngest DC. She is still very much into toys - particularly baby dolls, Designafriend style dolls and Barbie style dolls. Along with lots of clothes and accessories. I know for Christmas she will ask for more of these. But I kind of begrudge buying more toys when she has loads and I assume she won't be playing with them for much longer (meaning I assume only another year or 2). But then I feel mean not wanting to buy her toys while she is still really into them! I think it was around 9 my DS last asked for a toy for Christmas. But I knew all his toys would get played with by the youngest so it wasn't an issue!

My DD will be nearly 13 at Christmas & has asked for a couple of specific Barbie Looks dolls. None of her friends know she still plays with dolls but she loves them. She had loads of design a friends but stopped playing with them around 11 years old.

Her advent calendar is being filled with barbie shoes, clothes, fidget toys & the odd Harry Potter thing (I'm filling it myself).

I wouldn't rush her past the toy stage.

At 9 she would be old enough for some of the reborn style hyper-realistic baby dolls. They seem to have quite an older girl/teen following.
You need to do your homework on it as though some are £££ and there are scams around. You could try the Facebook page of Reborn dolls £100 and under.

@PhantomErik - that's lovely. I would be very happy if DD was still playing with dolls at that age Smile

@EducatingArti - thank you, I'll have a look. Not sure I could afford those dolls, though!

I have got a massive LOL winter cabin for dd1 who will be nearly 10. It's also for dd2 who will be 8.

I do want to prolong the toy phase.. once you see them starting to reject toys and just want tech, it's quite alarming. Dd1 has ASD and is socially immature and playing with dolls is far more beneficial to her than roblox, which she just can't handle.

I had a My a little Pony and a Cabbage Patch Kid for Christmas when I was 11. It’s sad to think that nine is seen as “almost too grown up for toys”.

@TheSpiral - I absolutely don't see my DD as 'almost too grown up for toys'. I am purely coming from a financial point of view and that she already has over 10 baby dolls, around 8 older dolls and around 15 Barbie style dolls! And tonnes of accessories!

I've just had a look at the Argos baby dolls. There are a lot of accessories at a really reasonable price that she would really like.

UndertheCedartree warning....you might find yourself loving the Argos Tiny Treasures more than your daughter and find yourself walking around with the 'baby' on your shoulder patting it's little bum.....
They are sooooo adorable Grin

I would. They grow up fast enough anyway.
