Christmas stocking fillers for teenage boys?!

Quaggars · 19/09/2021 02:02

Yes, yes, I know it's only September and I said the C word but I figure I'm on the Christmas board and so you'll all understand lol!

Stuck for ideas what to get for my teenagers this year -

So far I'm thinking

  • tube of sweets (eg Smarties or Buttons, you're never too old for tubes of chocolates or sweets)
  • can of deodorant? Like Lynx? Not that they smell but it's a classic Christmas present usually in the form of gift sets and fits in a stocking lol.
  • A gift card to buy games for their phone

  • Top Trumps card game (again, never too old lol)

Any more ideas?!

These ideas may be rubbish , but for what it is worth ( & some may be too big for a small stocking )

If he is still at school / college , a pack of highlighter pens - always useful and handy for revision. Or rollerball pens or other stationary.

Chocolate Orange - mandatory in this house and husband is 60 Grin - he and DS get one every year. It is the law.

Depending on hobbies - proper sports socks ( if you have a Matalan nearby they sell decent ones relatively inexpensively )

One of those water bottles where you can sip it - great for on bedside table so can't knock over a glass of water - but possibly too big for a stocking

I once bought DS some USB sticks with Star Wars characters instead of the bit you get hold of - but then that is quite specific

Batteries - not exciting but in my experience boys are very often saying - Mum Mum - do we have any batteries? ( for their various devices.) Give them their own & they are set up.

Absolutely hold my hand up to these ideas being rubbish but have inflicted on my own teenage DS in the past as stocking things.

JourneyToThePlacentaOfTheEarth · 19/09/2021 02:43

This thread has some great ideas

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/4349150-Older-teen-stocking-ideas

I usually buy them an eau du toilette, socks, designer pants, lynx, nice facial wash, sweets, fun flavour drink,

Blondie1984 · 19/09/2021 02:47

A decent razor

BasiliskStare · 19/09/2021 02:59

@Blondie1984 Good idea & if it is a razor where you buy the blades separately - there is some little tin you can buy to put the blades in so they can be recycled. Not expensive but DS likes his.

Quaggars · 19/09/2021 03:14

Some great ideas thank you. keep them coming Grin
Would never have thought of batteries, definitely a good idea in this house, they're always moaning the batteries have run out of the Xbox controls as they're on it so bloody much lol

@Quaggers - the battery idea came from teenage DS saying - Mum do we have some AA batteries & me saying No but I can get some tomorrow - DS - but I need them now . Me - I cannot magic them up - I will get you some tomorrow ( you get the point ) So DS always gets lots of batteries in his stocking thing. It isn't the kind of present which would have him skipping and dancing , but when he needs them he is grateful . Delayed gratification. ( It does require knowing which batteries they need Grin )

doglikescheeseontoast · 19/09/2021 04:09

Definitely batteries - I got them in desperation years ago as stocking fillers for my then teenage twin sons. You'd have thought I'd given them the moon on a stick, they were so pleased.

As an aside, when they got older and had cars, I got them some replacement bulb things from a car maintenance place (bloke in the shop recommended them). Again, apparently, best thing ever 🙄

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/09/2021 04:19

Batteries is a good idea! These are "repeat" stocking gifts in our house.

Phone charger cables in varying lengths.
Power bank.
Uber Eats/Nandos etc gift card
PS/X-box gift cards
Phone case/screen protectors
Aftershave samples
Hot chocolate sachets
Bottles of Nandos sauce
Magic 8 ball
Fortune cookies
Weird American sweets
Mini tubes of Pringles
Shower speaker
More fucking phone chargers
Pocket Ninja tool things
Lip balm
Nike/Adidas sweat/wrist bands
Pizza slicer
Those black pore nose strip things
Spicy noodles
Maybe a few more phone chargers Grin

For older teens I would add
Scratch card
Mini drinks eg cocktails in cans

BasiliskStare · 19/09/2021 04:22

Another boring but useful one ( further to my previous boring ideas )

Nail clippers.

Was fed up of never being able to find mind because they had been "borrowed" - also if DS boys are going to college university - this was a v useful thing.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 19/09/2021 04:22

When I say pizza cutter, I mean a "novelty" one like this

Sorry for multiple posts, I can't sleep and keep pressing post too soon!

Smart bulb with remote control
Selection American cereals like this
Socks like this
Mini spread with biscuits - like Nutella with breadsticks (Nutella to go?) and Lotus spread with biscuits
Mini torches in the shape of credit cards for keyrings

I'll stop now Grin

I LOVE CHRISTMAS

@doglikescheeseontoast - It has given me great pleasure to see someone apart from me using the phrase "the moon on a stick " - used often in our family Flowers

Remembered something else my DS liked last year…metallic outline pens and blank flip books.
This wasn’t a stocking filler but I bought my DC some acrylic paint pens to do rock painting and it turns out you can also use them on skin. My DS has loved drawing tattoos on himself (as well as doing the odd rock!)

CoffeeChocolateWine · 19/09/2021 08:54

Touch screen gloves
Boot buddy
Puzzle game of some sort
Controller covers
Gaming thumb grips.

Row1n · 19/09/2021 08:55

If the batteries are mostly used for controllers I would look into either getting a wired controller if they sit close enough to the console or that, or a controller charger so they can always charge then when not in use and never run out of battery.
We have the charger but actually our ds and my dh prefer the wired controllers as they never have to think about charging and it suits our set up at a desk

poshme · 19/09/2021 09:04

Placemarking for when I start on stockings...

Great ideas!

KeepCalmAndLoveAutumn · 19/09/2021 09:11

Big jar of Nutella
Massive Toblerone (the £8.50ish one)
Hotel Chocolat
Chocolate Orange
Knitted Reindeer to go over choc orange (MN stolen idea)
T shirt with guitar on it (can be any hobby)
Christmas T-shirt (see Primark men's for sarcastic/ funny ones)
Skincare e.g. Dermalogica
Wallet Ninja
Book (Jeremy Clarkson book - sorry! He has a new one about his farm coming out in Nov)
Gift card e.g. Nando's, local supermarket where they go on way home from school)
Texas Holdem card game

New spongy wash thingie for shower

My boys loved some of the American sweets I bought for them. There is a shop in our city, I think it is Sweet Factory, and they do all kinds of weird M&M varieties.

BluebirdHill · 19/09/2021 09:30

Comics or comic subscriptions. Pick a bundle up when you have chance to go to a book/comic/science fiction type shop, where they'll recommend things for you.

Popcorn in interesting flavours

Those little retro handheld games consoles that do Pacman and the like - about £10

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/09/2021 09:33

Batteries - we bought DS a set of rechargeables in 2 sizes and the chargers . They don't last as long as regular batteries but keep going for ages (and as they're his batteries , he's responsible for them)

Clippers ,Tweezers,Beard Scisors (Ben Cohen ones from Boots)

He got a little zipped wallet of 12 guitar plectrums from the cats

dementedma · 19/09/2021 10:01

Agree with all above. DS also gets beard oil or similar,a joke like fake poo or somesuch, and this year he has some edible crickets to try.
He usually gets a small piece of kit for his many guitars too.

Stompythedinosaur · 19/09/2021 13:28

Bluetack is a stocking classic here and good for any age. Ditto post it notes.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/09/2021 13:33

I might buy DS a really good stapler and pair of scissors to stop him "borrowing" mine .

Not exciting presents but useful .
