After last years Christmas being cancelled for most people, what are you most looking forward to this year?

OP posts:

I spent last Christmas in hospital, only seeing DS and DW for half an hour. SO this year I'm just really happy to be at home and warm and squishy with them! I'm going to splash out on extra decorations for the outside of the house- had an outside plug fitted especially.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 28/08/2021 12:29

We always just spend Christmas Day as a household so nothing changed for us last year in that respect. We tend to have people pop over the day before/after so it will be nice to go that again if safe to do so. Not sure what winter holds given no restrictions and only boosters for some.

dudsville · 28/08/2021 12:31

Christmas day itself was great for us, but I did miss out on a few much looked forward to social events that I do hope to e able to do this year.

bloodywhitecat · 28/08/2021 12:32

Just Christmas. In November 2020 we were told DH had 6 months but he is still here, still well, his tumours have shrunk and I am starting to hope we may get another Christmas together.

Thegirlhasnoname · 28/08/2021 12:35

I had gestational diabetes last Christmas and, as such, wasn’t able to eat most of Christmas dinner aside from meat so I’ll be looking forward to actually eating festive food this year (already planning on getting some stollen in!)

Curlymam88 · 28/08/2021 12:43

My new baby 😬 im due just before Xmas so hoping I'll be in and out in time for Xmas day 😊

Treezan82 · 28/08/2021 15:58

Absolutely all of it. Every year. I'm slightly obsessed. Mostly missed seeing FC last year, that is always such a lovely day. But I think my favourite part of Christmas is my kids' faces in the morning when they see he's been.

Poppins17 · 28/08/2021 16:38

We have booked a holiday home for 6 of us this year and I’m excited to wake up on Christmas morning with my family.. it’s not something I’ve done for 16 years 😍

CarolinaWeeper · 28/08/2021 16:44

I have moved and am really looking forward to celebrating Christmas in my new house. It's the sort of house that I think will look lovely all decorated so I'm already making plans!

Floralnomad · 28/08/2021 16:55

Our actual Christmas Day last year was pretty normal as my sister was our bubble so the only people missing from a normal Christmas Day was my other sister and BIL which was fine as sister who caters and sent them a hamper of stuff for the day and we joined up on the portal . I’m looking forward to being able to get out and about in December doing Christmassy visits / light trails etc as we did none of it last year as I’m CV and we were in a tier 3 lockdown area throughout most of December .

I love the whole festive season and this year we are looking forward to enjoying what we couldn't due to Covid-restrictions last year. Namely:

  • taking the train up to Edinburgh with my husband to spend a few nights celebrating our wedding anniversary. Splashing out on fancy meals and enjoying time away from the children Blush
  • taking the train to York with the kids, spending the night in a hotel and pottering around The Shambles and Christmas Market
  • visiting The Sage in Gateshead (a pretty iconic music venue up here). We've tickets to see Kate Rusby perform her Christmas album. I can't wait.
  • taking the children to a pantomime at our local theatre om 23rd
  • eating a seafood platter for dinner on Christmas Eve
  • hosting lunch and Christmas picky tea for my lovely family, including the older members who were deemed to vulnerable to attend last year. We are expecting around 15 to take up our lunch invitation and an extra 5/6 will join us for the picky buffet. I (in small doses) love hosting and a happy albiet chaotic house
Ninkanink · 28/08/2021 17:03

I’m hoping to have both of my daughters with us.

It would be so nice just to have them close to us (they live far away) and to spoil them a little.

Droidian · 28/08/2021 17:08

It being over.

Lola001 · 28/08/2021 17:14

I'm looking forward to making up for last Christmas, seeing family more than a Zoom call... our traditional Christmas eve of a fancy breakfast before we see family.

SheABitSpicyToday · 28/08/2021 17:20

Our newborn! Due end of November. Xmas markets, Xmas food, RED WINE. I love Christmas.

BikeRunSki · 28/08/2021 17:21

Usually we drive 250 miles to see DM. Last year we couldn’t. This year we won’t because she’s moved half a mile away! So I’m looking forward to not driving and being able to have a more “family” run up to Christmas. I’d love DD to be able to do the school Christingle in her last year at primary school.

MyFloorIsLava · 28/08/2021 17:22

Disney On Ice on Christmas Eve.

I remember feeding my very small baby in the beet tent at Leeds’ Christmas market 13 years ago.

My boys birthdays 23rd & Xmas day! I'm so exited to actually celebrate their special days and then Christmas on top it's just an amazing happy time of year for us
I just can't wait for that cozy Christmas feeling and eat all the chocolate I can and spend time with family & friends

Inextremis · 28/08/2021 17:27

Last year we (DH, 2 dogs and I) moved in with our bubblemate for a week - his place is only half a mile from our house, but the kitchen is bigger and better, there's more room, etc. etc. - and it was lovely - I did all the cooking, there was an ongoing jigsaw, we got up when we felt like it and slept when we were tired (and full!). We're planning to do the same this year - we may have a few more visitors (friend's family, mostly) but otherwise it'll be a blissful week away from the 'real world', filled with food and fun. I can't wait!

MeredithMae · 28/08/2021 18:22

@bloodywhitecat I really hope you get Christmas together. And lots more time too.
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/08/2021 18:23

Hopefully going on our Skiing holiday (hoping for a last minute deal as DH can't risk isolation with his job). Best bit... DH has finally conceded that I'm one of the Unteachables so I don't have to try skiing this year (after four years in the Beginners Lessons)

MrsLCSofLichfield · 28/08/2021 18:37

I actually got the Christmas I wanted last year - just DH, DS and I, everything peaceful, too much food and best of all no-one was ill! This year I am hoping for the same, but a recent family bereavement will cast a shadow, sadly.

I think what I'm really looking forward to is sitting quietly on my own one evening with a festive drink, having finished work for the year, the living room all clean, tidy and decorated, presents wrapped, all post sent, food in situ and meals planned, just feeling contented.

Bert2020 · 28/08/2021 18:40

For us we are repeating last year! It was perfect being us 4 so much so we’ve decided whilst the children are you g it’s the same every year now.
@bloodywhitecat will keep my fingers crossed for you all.

HungryHippo11 · 28/08/2021 21:08

We usually go around visiting all different family members in the week before Christmas and between Christmas and New year.
My family all live within about 90 minutes travel so we can go and see everyone while still having enough days in between for slobbing around in pyjamas and playing with new games.

My daughter will be 4 this Christmas so a very exciting Christmas age.
