Lego advent calendar - am I just not "getting" it?

So you open a window and it shows you something you can make. You then have to try and pick out the correct little bag of bits and make the thingie. Then what?

I thought it would be a Christmassy scene that you put the bits onto or something. All I can see atm is that I have the box propped up to see the picture, I will end up with lots ot silly little Lego thingies and DS has lost interest already!

We have the Playmobile one too and love that.

both my girls have the playmobil calender, dd1 has the pink girly one with unicorns and dd2 has the wintry Christmas scene with Father Christmas playing wusic.

they're great, i'm glad I didn't get them the lego one now!

belgo · 02/12/2007 09:02

I also had great fun assembling the all the boxes and gifts inside of them.

I refused to buy DS a spiderman advent calendar. I said when you can tell me where he fits into the story of the Holy Family and Bethlehem, I will be happy to.

Short silence, oh yeah....I'm not getting one am I.

I got him a lovely one, with just pictures and I have a little packet of buttons beside it and he gets one every morning.

belgo · 02/12/2007 09:04

we've also got the playmobil nativity scene. my mother told me off for buying it, as she says that a nativity scene shouldn't be a toy.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 02/12/2007 09:05

Well I usually do a chocolate one but last year he wasn't really bothered with the chocolate so when I saw the Lego one I thought he would love it.

He does like the Playmobile one (although again I am getting antsy as he won't put the things in the right place!!!)

How's the head Bree????????????????

How much did you pay for the playmobil one, buda? I paid 19 or 20 euros each (12 pounds), and I've seen last year's one for just 10 euros

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 02/12/2007 09:14

Remarkably fine.

Boco · 02/12/2007 09:18

A (very male) friend has bought my small dds the lego one. I'd thought it was the playmobil one, but opened it yesterday and it seems to mostly contrain roadworks. DD opened the first window yesterday and it was a small lego man wielding a chainsaw. Not exactly festive, and vaguely discomforting. But dds seemed unphased.

GreedyGecko · 02/12/2007 09:21

the lego one i got for my boys is fine. Everything is in the right place, (at least they have been yesterday and today.) I am hoping there's at least a few christmas trees in there though.

LadyMuck · 02/12/2007 09:22

Yep I think the Lego is lots of differnt figures and accessories for the City range. Pity they weren't doing a star wars one.

We have everything - homemade calendars where I put little presents in (usually chocolate), the playmobil one for ds2, lego for ds1, the playmobil nativity and a Traidcraft traditional advent calendar (pictures leading up to the nativity). In fact somewhere I should find my Blue Peter Advent Candle holder....

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 02/12/2007 09:24

belgo - can't remember how much the Playmobile one was - bought it about 3 years ago.

At least you can bring that one out more than once. Not sure about the Lego one.

Not sure there are any Christmas trees GreedyGecko!

the playmobil one does seem reasonably good value. The girls are really enjoying playing with it.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 02/12/2007 09:34

Just looked on the Lego website and it does say there will be a tree and a fireplace!

Disappointed though. I expected more.

this one look nice Buda

Boco · 02/12/2007 09:44

We've just opened number 2 of the lego one and it appears to be some kind of hydrant, an axe and walkie talkie fixed to a paving slab. Is that right? Confused

MrsCarrot · 02/12/2007 09:48

An axe? Sounds like the lego one means business, you can almost hear the booming (male) voice in the advert. 'Construction'

We have the sparkly paper one with a choclate penny, they seem happy with that and the pictures are nice.

Nemo2007 · 02/12/2007 09:51

We have a playmobil one which we got ds last year and he loves it.
My mum brought a lovely huge wooden one last week which DD1 has taken charge of doing.

Lego one might be good if they were a lot older!!

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2007 09:52

PMSL at the chainsaw

I wouldn't be best pleased with that I must say

belgo · 02/12/2007 09:54

in the playmobil calenders today dd1 got a parott and dd2 dot a bird to go on the tree she got yesterday.

I had grand ideas to make advent calenders this year, but I just couldn't resist the playmobil ones

Boco · 02/12/2007 09:55

Dp says it's not a chainsaw after all, but a steel cutter of some sort, like firemen have to cut people out of cars. Oh well that's much more christmassy

MrsCarrot · 02/12/2007 09:56

hello belgo

the playmobil one does sound nice. Do you end up with a whole scene then, rather than random peices?

MrsCarrot · 02/12/2007 09:57

Lol, Boco, after all, they need to think about those times when people need cutting out of cars don't they

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2007 09:59

That does sound Christmassy actually. I expect there will be a drunk driver in the next one, and then a pub scene with lots of alcopops, you'll see, it will all tie in.

belgo · 02/12/2007 09:59

Hi mrscarrott - you get a cardboard scene with the palymobil calender and the figures go onto it.

It's very attractive, and perfect for my girls.

I'm a big playmobil and lego fan

MrsCarrot · 02/12/2007 10:00

I was thinking of that too, perhaps lego has joined forces with the emergency services to pass a christmas message to the parents
