DSD wants nothing but to be healthy! Clueless!

Based on other Christmas threads on here, I said to DSD in passing this morning to maybe start having a look online and give me and her dad some ideas for Christmas. She said "I have everything I want and need here - I just want to be healthy". She is a healthy girl so no issues there, but I'm truly stumped what to get her. She's 13. She's not girlie at all so not into make up, perfumes etc but did say she likes bath bombs so we will get her a couple of the gift hampers from lush etc nearer the time.

Anyone have any ideas??? Both Dh and I are sat here totally clueless and don't want to just give her money (we will already give her £50 in a card)

I think the pandemic has made lots of people, including children, much more health-anxious.

merryhouse · 22/08/2021 15:54

Insulated bottle?
That balance board looks great. Quite expensive though...

Windyone · 22/08/2021 15:57

@ReginaaPhalange are you UK based? Scotland? I know that the Glasgow indoor snow centre will open up in October so maybe snowboard lessons are a possibility

ReginaaPhalange · 22/08/2021 15:59

@Windyone I am indeed! Are you talking about the one at Braehead???

I'd get her some light hand weights/medicine ball/resistance bands/kettlebell, some really comfortable supportive running shoes or trainers, sports clothes, maybe a book about natural medicine/nutrition from plants/spices.
I got DC spray Vitamin D, First defence nasal spray and Floradix iron tablets in their stocking last year. It was a bit of an in joke as I was always trying to persuade them to take these supplements and to use First Defense, as it has saved me from so many colds. But they appreciated it and did start to use them.

I agree that a bath bomb or two in a stocking is plenty. Don't give her loads of them. Especially the Lush ones - they can cause skin irritation and UTIs with all that glitter and excessive perfume oil.

@ReginaaPhalange Yes. At the moment Braehead are planing to open in October I think. You can follow the updates on their Facebook page. I’m a ski instructor but not for Braehead so I’ve been keeping up to date with their developments.

@Windyone fab thank you Grin

At this age I got obsessed with calligraphy and growing cactii and succulents. Out of nowhere! Maybe go really off the wall. Growing things is a really lovely mindful hobby, perhaps she would enjoy some indoor or outdoor plants if you have space?

Puffinhead · 22/08/2021 16:26

A bit old school but what about a Filofax? I bought my DD12 one and she loves it. It’s a funky colour and can get lots of inserts - WHSmith has some good deals in Autumn.

kodaknodats · 22/08/2021 16:30

@Marni83

If forget about the present and try to carve out some time with her to have a chat about why she wants nothing but to be healthy when she is already healthy. No books, clothes, crafts, hobby related stuff etc

Someone saying they just want to be healthy doesn't imply they aren't already, as far as I know

I just thought it meant you wanted your health Confused as in 'wishing you health and happiness'

An odd thing for a 13 year old to say but loads of people say it

Clymene · 22/08/2021 16:33

If anyone asked me what I wanted for Christmas in august, I wouldn't be able to come up with any ideas either.

Keladrythesaviour · 22/08/2021 16:35

What about a kickboxing course or something similar she might not have tried before? Kickboxing is great for fitness, and also great for women's self defence and also general confidence, plus it's great fun!

Christmas in August. Still to early even if pregnant. You will still know your budget and there is online shopping. Also having a baby does not confine you to the house. Even if a 13 year old told you a specific pair of trainers she wanted in August chances are by December they would be "out" and she would want different ones.

AllTheSingleLadiess · 22/08/2021 16:53

A subscription to something like Netflix or Spotify ? I pay for my teens and it's money well spent

ChikiTIKI · 22/08/2021 16:53

Dehydrator to make fruity snacks?
Popcorn machine?

I know she wants to be healthy but hopefully a few treats here and there she will like and enjoy. Dried fruits and popcorn are better than sweets and crisps but still feel like a lovely treat.

ChikiTIKI · 22/08/2021 16:55

Or maybe some trendy workout leggings etc?

Fairyliz · 22/08/2021 17:27

No ideas sorry but just wanted to say what a lovely girl.

How about a BIG bag of carrots.

indecisivewoman81 · 22/08/2021 17:38

Smoothie maker?
Gym membership?
Dance classes?
Bullet journal?

pickingdaisies · 22/08/2021 17:41

Was also going to suggest some funky workout gear from sweaty Betty or bam. So it's something more luxurious than her normal stuff, but it's still got a practical purpose

Bryonyshcmyony · 22/08/2021 17:41

Chillys water bottle
Cool sport trainers

BrownOwlknowsbest · 22/08/2021 17:45

If she really feels she has everything she needs, would she be up for something to help others? onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/category/charity-gift-cards?N=1136921434&Ns=product.creationDate|1&Nr=AND(product.active:1,NOT(sku.listPrice:0.000000))&No=0
