Following on from me posting on the other furreal thread i feel the need to rant once more, and much more publicly!

That STUPID pony that costs £300 has sent my dd into oblivion of really really wanting this so so desperately, and at 3 yrs old she just doesn't get that something is far too much money, i even looked on Ebay (even though we are completely skint this year) and they are selling for almost full price on there 2nd hand.

Feel pretty bad though, she doesn't know how much it costs and her face lights up everytime the advert comes on....she calls the damn thing scotterscotch.

DAMN hasbro to hell!!!!

I saw one today in John Lewis, it was switched on and very cute. I am not taking the children to John Lewis again until they remove it from display!

geekgirl · 30/11/2007 11:33

£300 for a bloody pony toy?!?!?!

that's why I always screech at mine that they're not allowed to watch channels with adverts

pucca · 30/11/2007 11:41

Goingfor3...i saw one in ToysRUS, it is pretty fab, but still...£300 for ONE present!

Geekgirl...I know what you mean about the adverts, but dd is mad about scooby doo at mo so its boomerang that does it! and that pony advert seems to be on everytime there are adverts...drives me mad! swear this stupid pony is haunting me! lol

I was humming the tune to that pony ad this morning

Dd2 asked for it and was just told a flat out no. Then she and dd1 had a conference and asked if they could have it as a joint present LOL, the answer was still no.

Thing is, Dd2 has the Furreal polar bear and it's not that great, so even if I had £300 I wouldn't want to spend it on that.

3Ddonut · 30/11/2007 11:44

pucca, I see your dilemma I really do, and I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for you, unless you are willing to spin her a yarn about Father Christmas, giving a reason why he can't bring her a furreal pony ???!!!! Sorry.

TheMadHouse · 30/11/2007 11:44

My MIL bought one for my neice last year for Christmas (she was 4). It just sits in her bedroom and my little ones are scared of it.

Although we were agast £300 on one grandchild and £30 Each on the other two

dressedupnowheretogotilxmas · 30/11/2007 11:51

lol i know someone who actually shoplifted three of these last year
[um by know i mean brief aquiantence in a pub ]

pucca · 30/11/2007 11:52

I just cannot get over that they are charging £300 for it, it doesn't do that much.

my dd's asked for a wii. i told them that santa may not be able to bring them one as he doesnt have enough for everyone. dd's were very accepting of this. would that work with your dd?

i did manage to get a wii, so they will be estatic. but i would draw the line at a £300 pony which probably looks better on tv than in real life.
sorry!

bratnav · 30/11/2007 11:53

HOW alldressedup??? They are huge

pucca · 30/11/2007 11:56

Misdee...Will try that

It is pretty cool this pony, but not worth that amount of money, you can buy a real shetland for that!!

OP posts:
evenhope · 30/11/2007 11:57

What's wrong with just saying no? Just because they see something on TV and want it doesn't mean they have to have it.

Better still stop watching commercial TV (I've never seen this advert!)

pucca · 30/11/2007 11:59

Evenhope...The advert is on Boomerang (as mentioned earlier) yes my dd sometimes watches TV.

I apologise that my dd is not some little angel 3 yr old that accepts NO as a answer.

pucca · 30/11/2007 12:03

It is not about her being a brat either, she is no way near a brat, she just keeps talking about this toy, not in a nagging/i NEED it type of way, she is just amazed at it.

saffy202 · 30/11/2007 12:16

What about cheaper alternatives. You could buy a stick horse, make a name tag for it and call it scotterscotch.

Misdee · 30/11/2007 12:17

hobby horses are still a big hit. dd1 has had hers since she was 2, she is now 7 and dd2+3 use it as well.

foxinsocks · 30/11/2007 12:19

lol at stick horse

what DOES it do this pony thing?

for £300 quid, I'd hope it would be taking her riding in the park

saffy202 · 30/11/2007 12:19

Hobby horse - that's the word I was looking for

PestoMonster · 30/11/2007 12:20

The last time I was in Costco, they were selling them for £185.00 (not sure if you would also have to add VAT to that). So if you still want it, would be best to have a look there first.

So let me get this straight.. a toy company is supposed to stop advertising just before Xmas because you can't say no to your 3 year old

What will you do when she's 17 and wants a brand new car?

evenhope - I don't think pucca asked that the company stop advertising. She just said she hates them and hates the ad. Perfectly reasonable.

SheherazadetheSwedishgoat · 30/11/2007 12:35

i think this toy should be banned on the grounds that it gives me the willies and it takes up more room than any toy is allowed to under eu legislation. it would just loom at you the whole time, reminding you of all the other things you could have spent £300 on.
