why do you get them anything? if they don't buy for you, and they don't show any appreciation of what they are given, is it time to suggest everyone just gets presents for the children?

Why don't you get one of those unwrapped gifts from Oxfam eg a goat or 18 schoolbooks or something?

Give them a card, painted on one side by DCs, with the following wording on the other side:

"I owe you:

the honour of your grandchildren's company for at least 10 overnight stays, and one weekend stay over the next year.

Love from your gorgeous DIL & lucky son"

Then sit back and enjoy the look of panic on her face, then hand her the 'real present', a £5.00 Argos voucher - watch her smile and keep her mouth shut
