I usually do a Quorn Wellington which is basically a quorn roast split down the centre and filled with stuffing and then wrapped in pastry before being baked.

mustrunmore · 27/10/2007 23:42

Dont know. Usually have eithr nut rost or veggie haggis, but this year we've ben invited to the house of a mumsnetter who can actually cook, unlike me
TBH, I'm very happy with just vegetables, as long as the gravy is Tescos own, and made far too thickly!

spookykitty · 27/10/2007 23:44

I make a Brie and cranberry parcel type thing wrapped in pastry and baked.

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 27/10/2007 23:44

Carmenere

Tell me you will not be eating interfered with nut roast on Christmas Day.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 27/10/2007 23:45

Probably either a quorn roast, or some kind of luxury nut roast which will double up as stuffing for the meat eaters.

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 23:45

carmenere I NEED that recipe!!

NoBiggy · 27/10/2007 23:46

My work is unappreciated here, so probably one of those vegeroasts with the usual spuds and veggies.

FrannyandZooey · 27/10/2007 23:47

probably what our local pub is serving for vegetarians, which last year was quorn roast with roast veg

mediocre food, but lots of it, dp and ds love it, and fun to go out and not have to cook

CadaverousCorpulentCarmenere · 27/10/2007 23:48

Oh no I will be having some class of a posh bird, the quorn thing is for dss
I was going to say no recipe, I just made it up(which is true) But I can confirm that it will be in the mn cook book for next Christmas

PelvicfloorLotsofGore · 27/10/2007 23:48

I usually just have vegetables and gravy.

It's just a shame they can't replicate proper bacon (that pink cardboard stuff doesn't count) cos you could probably make veggie pigs in blankets otherwise....

I eat fish too, last year I had a tuna steak with christmas dinner, well done so it was very much like pork, it was lovely. (Tuna is my achilles heel) I realise most of you will be proper veggies though, so that's no help, sorry.

CadaverousCorpulentCarmenere · 27/10/2007 23:55

lol Roy, I see quantity is an important factor in your Christmas

CadaverousCorpulentCarmenere · 27/10/2007 23:56

Something done in pastry I think is good as it adds to the sense of occasion as well as the necessary bulk.

mustrunmore · 27/10/2007 23:58

But pastry isnt nice with gravy...

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 23:59

yes carmenere - this stems from years spent watching people picking over a bird (!) and feasting on hams for days whilst i made a cold cooked carrot sandwich
i lurrrve the days of leftovers more than the meal!!
(so damn easy too - 5 kids to feed!)

CadaverousCorpulentCarmenere · 27/10/2007 23:59

Oh yes it is. Pastry is great with a lovely rich gravy, in fact pastry needs some kind of gravy.

RoyKinnear · 27/10/2007 23:59

mmmm pastry and gravy is fabbo!

RoyKinnear · 28/10/2007 00:00

christmas needs to be a full carbs and protein fest!!
loaves adorn the kitchen -pats of butter beside them...

did i tell you my fave food is mashed potato butty - cod was not impressed

melpomene · 28/10/2007 00:10

LOL at RoyKinnear. I like the sound of the Quorn Wellington too.

The most difficult thing for me is thinking of something that my dds (plus nieces and nephew) will like. Last year I made a pancake gateau (stack of pancakes with different fillings in between each layer eg tomato sauce, cheese and broccoli, peas). The dds didn't like it, even though they normally love pancakes and like all the other ingredients.
