We have duck for the 4 of us

Elouera · 23/12/2020 08:12

IMO pigs in blankets go with everything!

Jamie Oliver did a stuffed turkey leg on a show lastnight, if you didnt want to buy a whole crown or bird for just 3. You can buy those giant turkey legs fairly cheap, remove the bone, flatten, add a stuffing, roll into a sausage shape and tie with kitchen string. It looked easy to carve and delicious!

here it is:

I’m doing a few poussin

glastogal · 23/12/2020 08:16

Opted for a stuffed chicken crown cos I didn't want to deal with a week's worth of leftovers!!

cliffdiver · 23/12/2020 08:18

We have an extra small turkey crown (serves 3-5) and a chicken.

I don't like turkey and DDs prefer chicken.

ichundich · 23/12/2020 08:19

duck here too

doritodiva · 23/12/2020 08:20

We're having lamb. I don't like turkey

ThatBitch · 23/12/2020 08:21

We're having sow cooked brisket and still having pigs in blankets! And Yorkshire puds. And stuffing! I wanted a meet I could cook long and slow without needing to stress about timings since it's just us and the dc.

Orangesox · 23/12/2020 08:22

We’re having chicken and a small gammon joint between three of us tomorrow as it’ll yield decent leftovers for my mum who’s recovering from surgery (in a support bubble). Then beef Wellington on Christmas Day as it’s just DH and I as I’m working (perils of healthcare).

Teddy1970 · 23/12/2020 08:24

Sainsbury's sell a smallish ready stuffed Turkey breast, that's what we're having.

Skipsurvey · 23/12/2020 08:25

oh thank you all for ideas

I'm cooking for three meat eaters, they've asked for beef. I'm still doing pigs in blankets but don't think I can be bothered with Yorkshire Puddings, unless I cook them in the morning and reheat them.

theDudesmummy · 23/12/2020 08:28

We have decided that, as there are only 3 of us we will do lots of our family traditional Xmas food but not all at the same time. So evening of 24th (which is when we usually have our big party/meal) we will have a stuffed turkey crown and Brussels etc. Wait a day or so to eat leftovers, then a ham in gingerale. Then a day or so later a duck. Then a roast beef and Yorkshire (normally would have all of these meats out in a big buffet on 24th). So, for the nd to never ending 2020, the never ending Xmas Dinner...

Ffsnosexallowed · 23/12/2020 08:28

We're having a stuffed chicken crown and a small gammon, with pigs in blankets. First year not having turkey in over 20 years....

halcyondays · 23/12/2020 08:28

There are ï¼” of us but only 3 that like turkey, (not including the cat) we get a small turkey crown which has enough for turkey sandwiches the next day.

PeppermintSoda · 23/12/2020 08:28

There's 3 of us and I bought a turkey for 5-6 as I like a few days of leftovers. Nice to be able to tell the teenage dds to help themselves to leftovers rather than cook

Unescorted · 23/12/2020 08:29

Beef en Croute here... and pigs in blankets.

You could buy a Turkey leg, debone and stuff it - that would be my option if I was forced to cook Turkey. The white meat is tasteless and really difficult to not dry out. This could just be my cooking.

Heyahun · 23/12/2020 08:30

We are having lasagne and lots of nice sides 🤭

ElfieElfington · 23/12/2020 08:30

I've bought a beef joint big enough for 4/5 so there won't be much leftover but I'm also roasting a ham Christmas Eve so there will be plenty of meat for sandwiches etc.

user1471530109 · 23/12/2020 08:31

I've ordered a rather large turkey crown for just three of us 🙈. I know there will be lots left over but I normally make a pie, turkey cheese burgers, curry etc. I'm now remembering all the threads last year on food poisoning by reheating the cooked meat though...Sad.
I love the leftovers more than the actual christmas dinner.

Skipsurvey · 23/12/2020 08:33

yes, i love the leftovers more as well, i have a ham to cook tomorrow

Leftovers and fridge grazing is the key to festive catering at my house.

StCharlotte · 23/12/2020 08:34

Just the two of us here. DH is braving the shops today and is on a mission to get a chicken or a small turkey. Happy to have leftovers.

Skipsurvey · 23/12/2020 08:37

that reminds me chestnut stuffing is my favourite, however it is made

PolarnOPirate · 23/12/2020 08:39

We’ve got a turkey breast for 2 from Cook. For DH and 2x under-6s who won’t eat much. I’m veggie. Should have just done a pile of pigs in blankets I reckon, turkey is more just for tradition in this house!
