So obviously we have varying degrees of limitations on what we can do on Xmas eve/over Xmas. I just want to hear what you have planned, any traditions that you are able to stick to, what you are having for dinner etc!

I'll start....the kids will open their Xmas eve boxes and we'll probably have a couple of mulled wines over zoom with friends, maybe a Xmas family movie. Haven't decided about dinner yet, hoping to steal some ideas!

Forgot to add that we are in Tier 4 and I am furloughed so it's the first time in years I'm not rushing about on Xmas eve.

Very long walk with the kids and dog
Hot chocolate very lovely biscuits

Then back home
I'll cook the ham glaze etc

Ham with mash and gravalax and other salad stuff etc...
Good bottle of wine

Kids get Xmas eve stuff

Light the fire

Try and put the kids to bed and not forget their stockings like I did last year!!? 😂

MissHemsworth · 22/12/2020 11:56

A long walk sounds lovely especially followed with hot choc and biscuits. Easily done with the stockings..so much else to remember. I'm just happy that I'll get to put the sodding elf away! Your dinner also sounds delicious.

We usually have hot chocolate in a local cafe in the morning then eat out late afternoon. We are in tier 4 so that's gone out the window!

Will try to convince the family to go on a nice walk through the woods then back home for a film, order a takeaway then games night and hunker down for the evening!

GreekOddess · 22/12/2020 12:04

There will also be some food prep required for Christmas lunch.

Duggeehugs82 · 22/12/2020 12:16

We r having a chocolate fondue we had it last year and it went down well with husband and 3 year old and this year my 21 month old will get involved! Then watch the snowman and snowman and snow dog ive recorded.

Lovemusic33 · 22/12/2020 12:18

Possibly a walk depending on the weather, watch a few films, dominoes pizza in the evening and a board game before bed. Possibly a mad dash to wrap a couple presents that are due to be delivered Christmas Eve.

GreekOddess · 22/12/2020 12:19

@Duggeehugs82 chocolate fondue now that's
an idea! I have a fondue set but have never used it.

Kids are with their Dad this year 😢 so it’ll just be me and DH. We’ll have steaks, booze and a lovely shag. 😆 Christmas morning we’ll have Porn Star Martinis, presents, and another shag before we cook the takeaway lunch from a local restaurant.
Boxing Day the D.C. come back and we’ll have our family day then.

wendz86 · 22/12/2020 12:23

I am working in the morning at home but will mainly just be checking emails. Will do some hoovering etc and make house presentable. Might go for a walk and get some fresh air . Evening will be having a cheese board/cold meats etc and prosecco and watching tv. Possibly having a zoom with the family. Also need to get kids presents all out for when they return from their dads Christmas morning.

Finfintytint · 22/12/2020 12:24

We usually have Tapas in the evening and watch a film.
Daytime, we go for a walk then spend the rest of the day food prepping (we enjoy this and don’t see it as a chore).

SuePreem · 22/12/2020 12:26

We normally do a bit of baking in the morning, followed by skating and lunch out, followed by home for fish pie and mulled wine.

Skating and lunch just got cancelled (tier 4) , so we are going to do an online quiz instead I think. Also going to head for midnight mass. Because it's perfectly ok to sing in an enclosed church full of other people, but not to skate in an open air ice rink. Hmm but I'm taking my social life where I can these days.

troppibambini · 22/12/2020 12:34

Long walk with the kids at a local NT place followed by a late lunch at an Italian restaurant.
Home then Xmas eve boxes a movie and tracking Father Christmas.

EnPoinsettia · 22/12/2020 12:36

Pizza and a movie. Probably a few Bailey’s coffees with the movie.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/12/2020 12:42

Just DP and me. Usually we go to the local cinema and watch It's a Wonderful Life late afternoon, then come home and have pizza. This year the cinema is closed, but I recorded it from Film Four the other week. DP will make soup for Christmas Day in the evening.

DrunkenKoala · 22/12/2020 12:49

Long walk in a local country park with DP and both DC in the morning.
After lunch watch a Christmas film.
Fish and chips for tea.
Walk around local area looking at the lights. Home to slow cooker chocolate.

MarmaladeTeepee · 22/12/2020 12:49

I always lay out a treasure hunt for the Christmas Eve box (ours has new pjs, chocolate coins and bath bombs in it) so we'll do that after breakfast.

After the treasure hunt the DC can watch a film/play in their rooms while I do a quick clean and any food prep.

We normally bake cookies for Santa but the DC want to make a DIY chocolate house instead so we'll attempt that either before or after lunch. I couldn't get the actual kit so I've bought a load of bars and some white buttons and we'll do our own version.

Lunch will just be the usual sandwiches and then after lunch I'll set the table for Christmas dinner and then we'll go for a walk along the beach with a flask of hot chocolate.

Then back for a board game followed by a Christmas film and pizzas for the DC and a baked camembert for DH and I in front of the TV.

Once the DC are bathed and in bed DH and I will watch It's a Wonderful Life with a bottle of wine then put the presents out and fill the stockings. It's my favourite day and I can wait!

I'm working until lunchtime, but then we're taking the dogs to a big off lead place for an hour in the afternoon to tire them out. When we get back we'll walk to collect DS from nursery and when we get home his Christmas Eve box will be under the tree. We're ordering in Turkish food for dinner, so we'll have that and then put DS to bed before opening my specially reserved Christmas Eve champagne. Hoping DH will only have his usual small glass then the rest will be for me Grin

lovemenomore · 22/12/2020 12:56

Some lovely sounding plans albeit slightly tier restricted!

We are in Tier 2. DH is working so after I have been for a blood test at 08:20 (thanks!) I will grab 3yr old DS and pop down to our village and grab a hot chocolate and walk around the shops - we live in a tourist town/village so lots of different shops to look at!

Then we will go home around lunchtime have some nice nibbly bits then at 6pm we are off to the new development next door who are having socially distanced carols (normally they are held in town on the bridge but not this year) then back home for Xmas Eve box and the Polar Express then bed fingers crossed for DS!

Glass of bubbles for myself then bed too!

MissHemsworth · 22/12/2020 12:58

@SuePreem you have a point there!

Evening we'll have our usual buffet tea then it's church at 7pm with mum and ds. I am a regular churchgoer and reading on the altar. Sadyly, I don't expect it will be like the usual Christmas Eve mass. Then home and the hot food part of our buffet, chill, TV, attempt to persuade 15 year old to go to sleep before us!

firstimemamma · 22/12/2020 13:04

Our elf is delivering our toddler a pressie and he has 2 Christmas Eve boxes from relatives.

Probably go for a nice little walk.

Baking gingerbread men.

Hot chocolate & general crap food / TV.

Leaving a mince pie etc out for Father Christmas on our special plate Smile
