Writing my shopping list! Got a click and collect slot booked for Wednesday, and trying to figure what I'll need for the following week. Takeaway Christmas Eve, and Christmas dinner sorted, just not sure what to eat the other days 🤷‍♀️

Any inspiration would be great!

Mine's still a work in progress but I'm going pretty classic with Camembert, turkey curry and turkey and ham pie. Will be having party food Christmas Eve.

Hohomerryxmas · 20/12/2020 11:25

We love our roast dinners so will have another one on boxing day with all the left overs as there is always plenty but will make Turkey and ham with chips and egg for anyone who doesn't want one.
I try and use up all the left overs in the days following so the current plan is 27th: Turkey, ham and chicken pie served with any left over veggies.
28th: Turkey curry with rice and chips.
29th: if there is any meat left over we'll have it with a fresh salad (I usually crave something healthy by this point 🤣)
30th: nothing planned as of yet
31st: party food.

Following as also need to confirm my Tesco order tomorrow. I really don’t want to resort to the bog standard dinners we eat usually but also have zero inspiration right now

waitingforadulthood · 20/12/2020 11:52

I have a whole 12lb turkey being delivered on the 23rd to feed two, so my plan has changed to include a LOT of turkey meals. I haven't the heart to cancel the turkey, it's not the farms fault I've no need of it

Christmas Day- Christmas dinner of course , with turkey

Boxing Day- lunch - Christmas dinner sandwiches- the most anticipated and delicious sandwich of the year

Dinner- turkey and veg soup

27th- lunch - turkey bahn mi (another much appreciated sandwich of the year)
Dinner- vegetable and turkey biryani

28th- lunch- goats cheese and pumpkin seed salad

Dinner - turkey stir fry

That's as far as I've got and am not exactly relishing the idea of all that turkey tbh but i don't have a freezer

Deelish75 · 20/12/2020 13:38

We’ll have a fair bit of left over turkey and ham.

Boxing Day
Breakfast - cook up
Lunch - picnic bits
Dinner - (shop bought)steak pie, chips, peas and gravy.

27th - 31st
Lunch - sandwiches (turkey, ham or cheese) and salad
Dinner - cottage pie, sausages, fish, chicken, chips/potatoes, veg/baked beans.

NYD
Lunch - Beef or pork roast with trimmings and veg.
Shop bought dessert (thinking woodland strudel with custard)
Dinner - pizza and dough balls.

Christmas Day and New Yrs Day (and Easter) are the only days I do a roast so I want to do something quite easy in between those days.

Christmas Eve (me and DD)

Brunch: Blackstone Eggs (poached eggs, bacon and beef tomato slice on English muffin with cheese sauce and a side of hash browns)

Late Afternoon Festive Tea: brie and cranberry panini fingers, turkey stuffing and truffled mayo sandwiches, sausage rolls, mini mince pies, yule logs and frosty fancies.

Then we'll just have popcorn and chocolate while we watch TV.

Christmas Day: Pain au choc and bucks fizz

Dinner with my parents (we're Tier 2 and I'm their carer): Roast Beef and Turkey with all the trimmings, Christmas Pud/mince pies

Picky bits if anyone fancies it in the evening

Boxing Day onwards - have bought a substantial cheeseboard and accompaniments, frozen party food, tapas & salad. DD has asked about dinners which frankly I'm not that inclines to be arsed with, but have various options of home made 'ready meals' in the freezer.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/12/2020 14:00

We'll have hardly any leftovers this year as I planned for 4 all along and have a stuffed turkey crown for 4-6 in the freezer already.

Xmas Eve: smoked salmon and prawns, good bread, salad with avocados.
Xmas Day: Turkey, pigs, stuffing, roasters (snip and spud), reg cabbage, runner beans, bread sauce, cranberry, chantenay carrots
Boxing Day: cold turkey, prosciutto platter, antipasti, salads
27th: who knows, will shop!

Plonque · 20/12/2020 14:02

I’ve had so start again with Christmas meal as plans have changed since yesterday. So we are having, DP and I

Christmas Eve, Fish and home made chips, and either apple crumble or Eve’s pudding and custard.
Christmas Day, Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, peas, carrots, roast potatoes and gravy. DP will have Christmas pudding and custard, I shall have lemon cheesecake.
I shall put out sausage rolls, cheese and biscuits, crisps etc for us in the evening.
Boxing Day, a big salad with cold meat and cheese. Some of those par baked rolls.
27th, pizza, preferably ordered in.
I have some mince pies, some meringue nests and a Yule log too. I don’t think the latter will make it to Christmas though as DP insisted on sampling it as soon as we got home from shopping. I also have chicken, stuffing and pigs in blankets for a chicken dinner at some stage, which I will freeze for now.
Happy eating, everybody! I love these threads.😺🎄

We've done a Hello Fresh order for the rest of the week. Can't be bothered to have to think about food after 3 days of rich Christmas food so we will just eat whatever meals we get sent.

goose1964 · 20/12/2020 19:31

Whole side of salmon, ham, cheese and salad bits as a more or less on going buffet.

goose1964 · 20/12/2020 19:33

LockdownLove · 20/12/2020 21:16

Christmas Eve - Filo parcels with Camembert inside served with a cranberry sauce, and side salad with pomegranate seeds and apple in.

Followed by Delia Smiths Chocolate Bread and butter pudding (needs to be made 2 days ahead which is a big plus for Christmas).

Christmas Day - cinnamon swirls and Buck’s Fizz for breakfast. Reindeer shaped pancakes for younger family members.

For lunch starter will be spicy king prawns with aioli or fois gras (for the non seafood eaters).
Roast turkey with all the trimmings followed by a cheese board and Christmas pudding.

Boxing Day - leftovers plus A cooked ham with Baked Potatoes and more cheese.

Followed by homemade puff pastry mince pies.

27th Raclette cheese and salami and hams.
You cook the cheese on a machine in the middle of the table and pour it over boiled potatoes.

28th Chestnut soup and fish pie.

We normally do cheese fondu on Christmas Eve but with Covid I don’t feel too comfortable with people sticking their metal stick in the pot and possibly then in their mouths!

MaverickDanger · 20/12/2020 21:23

23rd - cheeseboard and charcuterie platter
24th - sushi platter
25th - roast dinner
26th - buffet including turkey sandwiches
27th-31st - various combinations of party food buffets, brie bacon and cranberry toasties, turkey and stuffing baguettes, coronation turkey on jacket potatoes with salad, gammon with Mac & Cheese.

JingsMahBucket · 20/12/2020 21:24

Placemarking. I also need some ideas to last me through the week. All I have is turkey soup.

SockDrawer · 20/12/2020 22:39

I’m currently trying to think of a few side salady type ideas for a Boxing Day Buffet.

Pipandmum · 20/12/2020 22:42

Same as we normally eat. Thinking about a ham for Boxing Day though.

MaverickDanger · 20/12/2020 22:42

@SockDrawer we tend to go for a Waldorf salad, a beetroot and pomegranate salad, and an Asian style slaw as they feel a bit “cleaner” on the palate.

Bookaholic73 · 20/12/2020 22:46

Christmas Eve:
Breakfast-fry up

FearlessSwiftie · 21/12/2020 09:38

Mine is still in the process, even though I already know there'll be cottage pie, a lot of vegetables, chicken and cheese sticks.
