This has maybe already been asked but what does everyone do for breakfast on Christmas morning? We're going to my mums for christmas dinner but not until mid afternoon so want to do a nice christmassy breakfast for DH and DD (2) so kid friendly ideas would be appreciated.

We'll have; sausages, bacon, tattie scones, eggs, toast, tea & irn bru about 8am.
We don't eat Christmas dinner until around 4pm.

Nigella has a recipe for Christmas morning muffins that are nice. Can serve with marmalade. I think I did that last year when kids were 1 and 3. I’ve got the stuff in for this year but also croissants and chocolate croissants so I can choose on the day. I’ll try and find a muffin link...

DD and I are making cinnamon star bread the day before and putting it in the fridge to prove overnight and baking it fresh in the morning. Looks very festive and is very very easy!

Juanbablo · 18/12/2020 07:39

We have bacon rolls, jus rol cinnamon rolls and fruit.

Poppins17 · 18/12/2020 08:17

I agree with the baked croissants and cinnamon buns.

Aldi have frozen croissants in at the moment, at least in my store.

You could do something fancy with fruit, like use Christmas cookie cutters to cut out watermelon Christmas trees for example.

Check out Charlotte Taylor on YouTube and Instagram- she has 3 kids and does themed Christmas lunches.

Also, check out Taming Twins on Instagram- she recently did a Christmas tree made from pastry for breakfast- she used croissant dough, but I’ve made them before with puff pastry and they have been lovely.

Have a great Christmas!

Smoked salmon on toast or blinis

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 18/12/2020 09:18

Kids will have the chocolate from their stockings, I will have champagne

SpamIAm · 18/12/2020 09:38

Normally have fake sausage and egg McMuffins but couldn't get sausage patties so will probably have bacon and egg muffins instead, plus jusrol cinnamon rolls and pain au chocolats, chocolate coins, and will probably put some mince pies out as well. I also have reindeer crumpets but might save those until snack time. DD will probably just want Cheerios anyway 😂

JorisBonson · 18/12/2020 09:40

Prosecco

Hohomerryxmas · 18/12/2020 10:07

I make 2 different bakes. Egg and sausage bake and a french toast bake.

SpikeWithoutASoul · 18/12/2020 10:10

Always have nigella Christmas morning muffins. Weigh out dry ingredients night before. Makes the whole house smell Christmassy. We eat them on the floor around the Christmas tree whilst opening presents.

spottygymbag · 18/12/2020 10:12

Croissants with salami tomato and Brie. Everyone's happy with that, even DD (3y). It fast, delicious, easy to customise, has minimal prep and clean up so we can get into presents and off to the beach sooner.

EventOfTheSeason · 18/12/2020 10:15

Fry up. Dd wakes up at 6am on a normal day and we don't eat christmas dinner until 2/3ish.

canihaveacoffeeplease · 18/12/2020 10:30

Our local very small artisan baker is delivering on Christmas morning at no extra cost, so we're having our usual very delicious sourdough bread as well as sourdough cinnamon scrolls from him, with local jam and honey, fruit salad, Greek yoghurt. Coffee, juice, champagne if we fancy it. We're both working right up until Xmas Eve and haven't had a day off in December so very very much looking forward to it! Planning a trip to the pub (not UK) for dinner and a couple of drinks in the garden to relax if we get finished in time on the 24th...really hope we do!

pinkbalconyrailing · 18/12/2020 10:34

bacon and egg cup bakes

Graffitiqueen · 18/12/2020 10:42

Dh and i have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. the kids are allergic to eggs so I make them a pastry christmas tree with chocolate spread inside it.

namechangeforxmas · 18/12/2020 13:12

We normally have bacon rolls but I told DH about the fish finger sandwich thread the other day and he's keen on that now! Xmas Envy

Speminalium · 18/12/2020 13:27

Porridge with raspberry compote, flaked almonds and a splash of cream then Christmas wreath bread, which is kind of like a circle of cinnamon buns in a wreath shape warm from the oven. That way lunch can be as late as you like!

GameSetMatch · 18/12/2020 14:48

Bacon croissants and Buck’s Fizz?

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 18/12/2020 15:05

Usually bacon rolls and cinnamon pastries. Bucks fizz or baileys Xmas Grin

But I really fancy those nigella Christmas morning muffins now.

ImNotCutOutForThis · 18/12/2020 15:38

Bake your own pastries the tesco ones. And a selection box no doubt.

didireallysaythat · 18/12/2020 16:21

Probably shreddies. Kids don't like croissants, eggs, etc so will get themselves toast before I'm out of the shower I suspect.

redpinkgreenblue · 18/12/2020 16:30

I have tried lots of different breakfasts but after several years Iv found that a sort of continental breakfast works best. We aren't too full but it's enough to soak up a bit of alcohol before Christmas dinner! We have:
-brioche toast

  • croissants
  • pancakes
-bagels with Philadelphia
  • a fruit platter (I splash out and buy pre done ready to eat)
  • pikelets
Plus a range of spreads, nutella, honey, jam etc and a pot of strong coffee!

We pop it on the coffee table so we can eat as we sort the kids out and it also means I can prep and lay the big table for Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve.

lockdownconfused · 18/12/2020 16:33

We have chocolate 🤣 used to faff about with different breakfasts but the kids just want their stocking chocolates so I just let them
