Lunches for between Christmas day and New Year's Day

I'm attempting to meal plan. I have come up with meals for each day between Boxing Day and New Year but as the family (me, DH and 2 teens) will be home together I'm also trying to plan some nice brunches/ lunches rather than the normal cheese and ham toasties that we usually have at weekends.
What are your favourite "treat" lunches?

Christmas McDonalds fakeaway turkey rashers poached egg slice of dairylea cheese on a toasted muffin

cyclingwife · 13/12/2020 17:51

Thanks @Redred2429 egg muffins with sliced cheese sounds a great idea. Fakeways are an option as we're not eating out - so might go for some kfc style chicken burgers too.

We usually survive on selection boxes , tins of roses , mince pies, left over desserts , cheese boards . We will throw some fruit to the children throughout the day so they don’t get scurvy but o don’t tend to cook for that week!

bilbodog · 13/12/2020 17:53

Good homemade soups with crusty bread.

Deelish75 · 13/12/2020 17:55

Nice picnic food
Cold meats - turkey and ham, sausage rolls and pork pies (Sainsbury’s do seasonal ones) quiche, scotch eggs, potato salad, coleslaw lots of salad foods. Pasta salads.
Left over mince pies, Yule log and Christmas cake.

We have a roast on NYD at lunch time and have pizza in the evening.

We usually have an inbetween Christmas and New Year lunch which is a selection of the frozen party food items. Things like mozzarella bites, prawns on skewers, little samosas, that sort of thing.

This year particularly, we won't be hosting or going to any parties, so it's a nice way to have party food at home. It's quick and easy too.

Onedropbeat · 13/12/2020 18:06

Fish finger sandwhiches
Tuna cheese paninis
Smoked salmon bagels
Cold cuts and cheese
Soups and fresh bread
Baguette and baked Camembert

cyclingwife · 13/12/2020 18:10

Thanks everyone, frozen party food would be great but we only have a small freezer, but I guess I could do some picnic food with leftovers.

We don't tend to buy big and so may only have one meal of leftovers/ turkey/ christmas chocs etc as we wouldn't fit it all in the fridge when we shop.

Turkey and stuffing sandwiches (until it runs out)

Soup with hot crusty bread (the parbaked rolls)

Quesadillas - tortilla wraps with salsa, cheese, thinly sliced onion, grated cheese and cooked chicken (or turkey) cooked on a dry pan until crispy on outside and melts in the middle

Bacon and egg omelette sandwiches

Croque monsieur

AtleastitsnotMonday · 13/12/2020 19:06

I like lots of salads to lighten the load.
Things like Chicken and bacon, nicois, curried chickpeas with a spinach base, chopped mango, carrot and cucumber ribbons.
Also things like nachos with home made salsa.
Jacket sweet potatoes with a winter slaw.
And you can’t limit your toasties to ham and cheese! Christmas toasties like Brie, cranbury and crispy bacon
Blue cheese, thinly sliced pear and red onion relish are a must!

Hohomerryxmas · 13/12/2020 19:11

We love French toast, pancakes with bacon or fresh fruit, full English, christmas left overs sandwiches/baguettes (cold meat, stuffing, pigs in blankets, winter slaw and chutney), baked camebert and of course cakes, sweets and chocolate.

Spacerader · 13/12/2020 19:18

Every year I say I will meal plan for between Christmas and New year, but in reality we spend this week grazing on chocolate, cheese and crackers and general snacks.

cyclingwife · 13/12/2020 19:20

Thank you @BerthaBlythe they all sound tasty. I plan to buy celeriac and make a huge soup with homemade fresh bread but the teens think soup is a punishment. They have requested pot noodles!!!

Yes @AtleastitsnotMonday different toasties sound a plan, brie and cranberry sauce added to the shopping delivery. Pickles and salads are definitely a must too thanks.

@Spacerader yes to cheese and biscuits. They tend to be a mid afternoon snack at Christmas time, but actually when time doesn't matter as we're going nowhere maybe I'll put that down for one day. Thanks

Turkey:

  • reheat with veg (DD2)
  • sandwiches (DH)
  • in a mush with baked beans and random stuff (DH)
  • on buttered toast with bread sauce (me)
We get a nice large turkey on purpose so I don't have to think about meals after Christmas.
onyourway · 13/12/2020 19:27

We bought a sack of jacket potatoes one year from the local farm and just had those everyday 😬

Chosennonesneakymincepie · 13/12/2020 19:31

Nachos. Topped with chilli and then dips on the side. And/ or Fajitas.
Grazing platters. Crisps/nuts/dips/ pickles/meats and cheese.
Hot Dogs.
Platter of sandwiches. Egg/tuna/meat paste.
Fresh stuffed pasta with pesto stirred in 😋
Twice baked Jacket spuds with cheese, crispy bacon and onion... serve with sour cream and chives.

Deereamer · 13/12/2020 19:34

Cheese and ham croissants, tomato soup with cheese on toast to dip in it, jacket potatoes topped with cheese (I love cheese) and red onion chutney, bubble and squeak made with any dinner leftovers?

Welshgal85 · 13/12/2020 19:48

We mostly just have leftovers and have Christmas sandwiches for a few days! We don’t tend to have usual evening meals as we just graze throughout the day and eat what we fancy! We get a lot of picnic/party food in and have that, usually Boxing Day and New Years Eve. The last few years I’ve cooked a joint of ham on Christmas Eve and then we use that in a few lunches too

MirandaMarple · 13/12/2020 20:06

Christmas sandwiches
Homemade McMuffins
Dishoom bacon on naan with cream cheese and chilli jam (or Jamie Oliver's poached egg on naan with yogurt and mango chutney)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 13/12/2020 20:39

Cold meats, cheeses, lots of thick soups, veggie or made with turkey stock and the last bits.

UncleBunclesHouse · 13/12/2020 21:55

Place marking in the vain hope of having a plan, any kind of plan, so we don’t have the daily ‘what are we going to eat’ issue for two weeks off!!

M0rT · 13/12/2020 22:00

Pea, Ham and mint soup...I have that for about three days...it's delicious!
