So, how do you explain how come Father Christmas has only brought ONE (b. expensive) pressie, whereas before it's been lots of little pressies?

Managed to lay my hands on a Wii, and the other bits we need (extra remote, nunchuck etc), so it's a VERY expensive Christmas present.

In past years ds has had a main present from us (as in WE asked FC to bring it), and lots of little bits (annuals, story CDs, Hawkins Bazaar bitties), all wrapped in little parcels.

But DS is 8, still believes (I hope). Best way please to explain that the Wii is it, but FC still loves him.

He can't carry one big pressie and lots of small ones, it's one or the other ??? Any good

clumsymum · 22/10/2007 13:11

Maybe .....

The Wii isn't actually physically very big tho', in fact even I think it's size is disappointing for the price IYSWIM.

I don't get families who say that santa brings all the presents

we say santa brings one present ...and that's it

why should a fat bloke get all the credit?

sorry that isn't helpful at all is it?

just say 'you're 8 now, so Santa just brought you one thing you'd really really like' .. though does this mean you aren't buying him xmas presents?

TwigorTreat · 22/10/2007 13:12

he'll need games to play on the Wii though surely?

But don't you buy him anything then???
I think he will be so chuffed with a Wii it will be no issue as long as he can play on it RIGHT away.
I don't get the Santa brings all the presents either. Sant brings a load of small things and a satsuma for the stocking.
Anything else is from us or the family and friends that sent it.

MrsPuddleduck · 22/10/2007 13:20

How about wrapping up the Wii and accessories all separately?

Or wrapping up a really big box and putting a big bow on it, wrapping up all the items and then putting them all in the big box?

clumsymum · 22/10/2007 13:20

Well Santa brings all the pressies here, at the request of other people.

We are buying Wii play to go with it, so along with the sports that come included, ds should have plenty to play on it for a few days, and we hoped that he might spend some xmas money on games in the JAN sales.

At our house FC delivers all the presents that are in teh living room on behalf of other people but all the little gifts in the stocking are from him, bit I appreciate that its a bit late to start that now.

And how full your stocking is depends on how good you ahve been all year

MaureenMLove · 22/10/2007 13:31

I don't get FC bringing all the presents either, do those that do it like that get your lo's to write a thankyou note to him or do they just take it for granted that he'll be there every year, with a pile of pressies.

No Maureen, DS writes thank-yous to the people who asked FC to bring each present.

"Thank you for the X you sent me for Christmas"

meandmy · 22/10/2007 13:37

there are lots of other children this year so fc needs to share so he just got the one present for you, remember your ds will probably have lots of other pressies off other ppl

MrsPuddleduck · 22/10/2007 13:48

I never knew Christmas was going to get so complicated!

I will think myself lucky that DS's are too young to appreciate value/quantity of presents yet.

Good job really as they're having one joint present from me/DH and grandparents.

They will have various other presents from family and friends so I don't see the problem. Plus they have too many toys as it is.

pandagirl03 · 22/10/2007 18:47

my mum used to tell us, that there is alot more children for FC to buy for this year so the budget for each child is slightly lower this year so he has decided to buy one present per child this year. We always believed this when we was small. Hope you find something to tell him

Lorayn · 22/10/2007 18:52

Father Christmas only brings the stocking full of crp in our house, but could you say that the elves take longer to make a wii, as its electrical than say a football?

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 22/10/2007 18:54

Father Christmas does not bring stuff like Wiis to our kids.. he brings cheap novelties, chocolate, and little useful items.

The larger/more expensive/singular presents come from us.

People who say everything comes from FC don't usually manage to keep the magic going for very long IME so you have done well if DS does still believe at 8.

Will you really need to explain it? Won't he be so excited about the Wii that he won't be counting presents and checking who bought what?

If you need to say something, wrap all the bits up separately, then the actual Wii comes from you via Santa, and Santa himself bought the remote/nunchuck/Wii play.

clumsymum · 22/10/2007 19:08

Cod,

I believe he still believes.

I want to believe he still believes.

I will keep up the charade as long as I can, because once you stop doing the Father Christmas stuff, some of the childhood magic goes out of Christmas.
