So I have DH, a 3yo and almost 1yo. Every year we have done christmas dinner ourselves, then gone to mums for boxing day where she'd do a full on salad with cold meat leftovers (plus extra like posh beef and ham). I like it, it's a great day, but not possible this year as my parents are vulnerable. I just cannot replicate the salad at home as for starters my kids will only eat the cucumber the bread rolls and the leftover stuffing... Secondly I just cannot justify filling my fridge with lettuce! It's just not big enough to fit all of Christmas Dinner bits and all of the salad bits in.

So what do you have, so I can poach a new tradition?

We have ham roast potatoes pickles usually Brussels and pigs in blankets. We usually go to mums Christmas day so she gives us some turkey and stuffing so that goes on as well.

JanetPudding · 03/12/2020 21:11

Picky food. Gammon, pickle, crispy bread, cheese, crackers, cocktail sausages.

Blue5238 · 03/12/2020 21:14

Turkey pie! Leftover meat, stuffing, pigs in blankets etc. Leftover gravy. Extra fried onions / leeks / mushrooms to bulk out of needed.
Chuck it in a pie dish and pour over leftover gravy. Make suet crust pastry and put on the top.
Very possibly my kids favourite Christmas meal

Mrsjayy · 03/12/2020 21:18

Saying that we might stay in our own house this year my parents are a bit twitchy about mixing which is fair.enough, soo turkey pie sounds lovely

Sherin18 · 03/12/2020 21:19

Turkey sandwiches

Lovemusic33 · 03/12/2020 21:20

Bubble and squeak?

We have leftovers and a few bits of party food/nibbles. I’m never that hungry Boxing Day, usually recovering from the big roast the day before.

PerditaMacleod · 03/12/2020 21:20

Turkey, stuffing, chips and pickled onions, beetroot etc

BalaamsAss · 03/12/2020 21:21

Turkey fajitas. All you need as extras in your fridge are some peppers, sour cream and avocado. (Onions I would expect you’d have anyway and don’t need fridge space anyway. Tortillas also require no fridge space.)

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 03/12/2020 21:23

Coronation turkey.
Turkey curry.
Like the fahitas idea.

AlwaysLatte · 03/12/2020 21:23

We usually have a curry- curried turkey, dal, home made naan, chickpea and spinach curry and katchumber. Followed by the Christmas pudding we didn't manage the day before!

ODFODXmas · 03/12/2020 21:23

We tend to do Xmas on Boxing Day. But the day after its leftovers/anything from the fridge, on a plate in the microwave. Repeat for next 6 days. If the food doesn’t last that long, I’ve failed.

MillieVanilla · 03/12/2020 21:24

As I cook for two straight days for Christmas Day, I call Boxing Day "go forth and forage" and day. So we always have thick bread in, lots of fancy crisps and snacks bits, we will have turkey and stuffing left and probably beef as well. Lots of picnic stuff like pate and crackers and cheeses, pork pies, scotch eggs, mini sausages. The kids literally just go and forage.
Although, I was so ill last year DP got a take away bless him

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 03/12/2020 21:26

Leftovers. Either an almost full roast again depending on how much was left but usually cold meats (for DH) or cold mushroom wellington, jackets and salad with pickles and homemade coleslaw. Anything that means no one has to cook because 27th is DDs birthday when we have to do it all over again!! 😂

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 03/12/2020 21:27

We do a large hot ham with mustard and maple syrup glaze on Christmas eve with crunchy roast potatoes (it is all about the baking soda in the water) and then have the cold ham on Boxing day with part baked petit pains, cheeses and pickle.

Anoisagusaris · 03/12/2020 21:27

We always have loads of leftovers from Xmas day dinner so reheat all of that. And then on the 27th I make a curry with the rest of turkey.

Elzbells · 03/12/2020 21:27

We always have the cold meats from Xmas day with mashed potato, peas and then pickles/beetroot etc

It's a hangover from when I was a kid and went to my grandad every Boxing Day with the whole family.

Cookerhood · 03/12/2020 21:30

Left overs from Christmas day with bubble & squeak, pickles, pickled onions etc. Can't wait, I like it better than Christmas day. I always do extra potatoes & veg on Christmas day to make sure we have enough!

Ihatesandwiches · 03/12/2020 21:31

Part baked bread, microwavable savoury rice and anything left over in the fridge :-)

Giggorata · 03/12/2020 21:35

We always have a serve yourself salad, with the left over cold meats, pickles, odd quiches and a whole cold salmon, posh breads, etc.
This is something light(er) after the day we stuff ourselves to the gills and means I get a day of doing sod all.

I do all the left overs the day after that.

cherrypie790 · 03/12/2020 21:38

Cold meat, leftover stuffing/pigs in blankets, bubble and squeak with leftover veg and huge oven baked potatoes with a massive salad - and lots of nice dressings/dips.

Prefer it to Christmas Dinner to be honest........!!

scentedgeranium · 03/12/2020 21:39

We always do a veggie biryani (I make the curry paste from scratch before Xmas and put it in a jar in the fridge). Main components are cauliflower, sweet potato, red onion, all roasted first, then the rice gets stirred in with the veg and paste and veg stock, covered with foil then back int he oven. A few roasted cashews on top at the end. Yum! It elevates all the other leftovers which we have cold alongside it. Freshens them
Up. V easy and the veggies and vegans always have something nice

GooseberryTart · 03/12/2020 21:40

We have another Christmas dinner the turkey is already cooked so its really quick and easy and less pressure as its not Christmas day.

anothernamechange224412 · 03/12/2020 21:46

Left over beef into the slow cooker with onions and gravy, and make beef and onion sandwiches on nice bread rolls

41weekswithno2 · 03/12/2020 21:47

We usually have things like soup and turkey sandwiches left over from Christmas Day.

trilbydoll · 03/12/2020 21:47

Left over veg and various freezer food like spring rolls and mini pizzas (ie total crap really) we just pick at it all throughout the day.
