How do you cook your Brussels?

Last year I did shredded Brussels with chestnuts quickly panfried and they were lovely.

Prior to that I avoided them because the steamed version used to make me gag. Far too bitter.

Any other interesting ways to cook those disgusting little cabbages and make them taste divine?

I shred them but cook them with bacon and garlic 😋

We like this one.

GLAZED SPROUTS WITH CARAMELISED RED ONION

Sorry to be negative, but if a vegetable like brussels sprouts need a lot of faffing to make them edible, I don't bother. I just do a tray of roasted veg instead. Suits us.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 03/12/2020 18:16

If I follow the family tradition then I usually put them in to boil sometime during the 1st week of November....

Oven roasted with garlic

This sounds interesting as does zofloras. I can't do boiling or steaming I hate the taste but roasted or shredded seems to be fine.

Nigella's recipe with smoked bacon lardons and chestnuts.

Skim reading and thought someone had suggested cooking them in Zoflora Blush

pinkbalconyrailing · 03/12/2020 18:27

panfried in lots of butter with breadcrumbs and cinnamon&sugar

PerditaNitt · 03/12/2020 18:28

Shredded with plenty of garlic and herbs. If you do them finely with a mandolin it doesn’t take long to cook. Chuck in a big knob of butter and lots of black pepper at the end. I’m a veggie, but I imagine that my omnivore friends on the board may enjoy them cooked with bacon this way.

Thehollyandtheirony · 03/12/2020 18:30

Roasted with fresh cranberries.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/12/2020 18:30

They are good fried with chilli and lemon, lots of recipes online.

chunkyrun · 03/12/2020 18:32

Never boiled! Why ruin a good veg. Quick par boil, season with olive oil and garlic. Roast in nice hot oven. Boiled veg makes me so sad. Carrots and parsnips always roasted in honey & mustard as well

DixieLandReject · 03/12/2020 18:36

With smoked bacon lardons, almonds and cream

lakesideadvent · 03/12/2020 18:38

Pancetta, chestnuts and maple syrup glaze.

quarentini · 03/12/2020 18:41

I love roasted sprouts. You just need to cut each sprout in half, toss in olive oil, salt and pepper. Give them a good shake halfway through so both side get crispy. They take between 20-30 mins to cook.

VettiyaIruken · 03/12/2020 18:50

If you don't like them, don't cook them. You're allowed to have Christmas without sprouts, leaves more room for chocolate 😁

Ah, who doesn’t love the traditional method Grin

Steamed slightly here and then finished off in the pan with flaked almonds and lardons.

TheABC · 03/12/2020 18:56

Whoever thought of boiled sprouts should have been quietly left on a desert island, safe from any brassicas.

They are amazing shredded and pan-fried.
I have tried them with bacon & lardon, garlic, or olive oil & balsamic vinegar.

CatsForLife · 03/12/2020 19:01

When you do them toasted you have to get on board with the fact that they look quite, er, burnt when they are cooked. But taste amazing. I do them about 35/40 mins with chopped garlic and olive oil. I don’t parboil.

ByGrabtharsHammerWhatASavings · 03/12/2020 19:05

Always roasted. I'm vegan so no bacon, but I add lots of smoked Paprika and oil to try and make up for it. I usually add a bit of cardamon powder as well but tbh I put that on or in almost everything because I love it so much.

TW2013 · 03/12/2020 19:09

Shredded and fried with bacon and chestnuts.

CatsForLife · 03/12/2020 19:10

Roasted even
