Black Friday

Did anyone get many bargains this year?

I was disappointed and a lot of stuff I saw had been at a lower price already earlier in the month.

I didn't buy anything, I'm not sure I have in the last few years either, as you say, I'm not convinced the deals are actually real (apart from some very specific items). Plus there seem to be constant sales anyway (or a bit of shopping around and you can usually find a deal).

We're nothing like in the US when it comes to sales - there you really can bag decent bargains, we seem limited to 20% off ever. I thought the things more heavily discounted were quite high value items, end of lines etc. If you're after a TV or something, may be worth it, but again, I'm not convinced the savings are particularly unique. January sales better.

@EmmaStone I fully agree that it only seems worth it for very expensive items. I kept an eye on prices for some toys that I’d already bought and they were cheaper when I bought them mid November than on Black Friday. And there seemed very limited stock on a lot of items.

I work in online retail and I can confirm that a lot of the deals are made to look better than they actually are.

Some of them ARE good deals though. It’s best to know what you want a good month or two beforehand and keep an eye on the prices. I got DH some AirPods Pro which were a really good price.

I’ve found this year a bit difficult to judge the bargains. Things would go on sale, then be further discounted. It was hard to know when to grab a bargain and when to sit tight. You definitely have to know what’s a realistic price for something as distinct from the over inflated rrp.
I’ve done okay over all but I had most gifts bought before BF and was able to take advantage of discounts and stock up on a few basics like toiletries, ink and paper at a good price.

I got a switch for £229 (cheapest I saw), 20% off at The White Company (discounts are rare) and classic Dr Martens for DH down to £111 (hadn’t dropped below £140 before).

Nope 😂 there was a few things I was hoping to find bargains on, what I found was-
M&S was 40% off housewares but selected items only with a very small selection
Qwertee put their prices up then their black Friday sale reduced them to £1 cheaper than what they were beforehand
River island- 20% off but only when spending over £75

So I just paid full price for everything! My mam said she's been watching a wooden ottoman on Wayfair for a while, during their black Friday sale it increased in price by £7 then on cyber monday it increased in price by another £7! I know there was some bargains to be had on big electricals and toys but generally disappointed with everything else
