Has already got a phone, headphones and an iPad so doesn't need or want any tech. Doesn't want or need clothes.
Am getting some 'posh' fragrance
Have bought a new duvet cover
Absolutely no ideas for anything else, and doesn't want money either!

Most of what I was thinking have been mentioned but one year gave DS a subscription to the RAC. Added him to ours and it renews every year.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/11/2020 11:41

Can I just say, please don't spend just for the sake of spending

100& agree .
If he says he wants nothing , respect his wishes .
My DS always says "Don't buy me underwear just give me the money" but I know if I said Look here's £50 buy yourself PJs and underwear he'd pocket the money and stil be running about in clothes from when he was 15 (which would still fit him Xmas Hmm )

My DS has asked for the electric guitar for ages so it wasn't an impulse , will he like it or not? type purchase ,. He chose it

DonLewis · 29/11/2020 11:42

A velvetiser all the way!

sashh · 29/11/2020 12:06

Does he live at home or independently?

What about a pension? Set it up and invest the amount you would give as cash. The HMRC will add a bit as tax relief.

Any further birthdays or Xmas when he doesn't want anything, pay more in.

Iwantacookie · 29/11/2020 12:08

My ds1 is couple years younger hes getting, xbox game electric toothbrush, toolset wallet tool, clothes. I've seen people mention mini fridges too I'm thinking of that for next year.

Iwantacookie · 29/11/2020 12:09

Also got him a massive fluffy blanket for his bed too.

LeaveMyDamnJam · 29/11/2020 12:11

Does he like coffee? Perhaps a nespresso machine.

elQuintoConyo · 29/11/2020 12:13

What to buy a young man who wants nothing? A bag to carry it all in?

I gave my 70yo dad fingerlights in his stocking one year, he spent many an enjoyable evening playing in the dark Grin

A good way to give money is to transfer directly to bank account but print out a personalised Scroll with the details on. Tailor it to what it might be spent on/do a mock ‘Wanted’ poster etc. Much more fun than a card saying “will give you £x “ or a voucher for a specific seller.

PrawnofthePatriarchy · 29/11/2020 12:17

I got my nephew a bubble wrap onsie at that age. He absolutely loved it. You can pop the bubbles while gaming or with friends at a party.

LittleTreasure · 29/11/2020 12:19

How can you not want money?

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2020 12:27

@LittleTreasure

How can you not want money?
23yos might have more disposable income than their parents.
OchonAgusOchonO · 29/11/2020 12:37

@LittleTreasure - How can you not want money?

Ds22 is (psychologicallly) the wealthiest he'll ever be. He has just graduated from university, is on a decent salary, has no financial commitments other than rent and bills in a shared house and his lifestyle has yet to catch up with his income.

Money would not be much of a present. He can afford pretty much anything he wants (he's pretty low maintenance) and money would just go into his general pot.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/11/2020 12:49

Last year the idea was to give DD money for Xmas and birthday for a specific reason - paying to go on the uni ski trip this year.Hmm in the event she needed a new phone so we got her that instead.

ShellsandSand · 29/11/2020 13:57

My husband bought me a 'sketchbook' from the Brooklyn sketchbook project. You have a year to complete it and then you send it back where it is kept and displayed in a Brooklyn art gallery. I'm made up with it. I find it very meaningful and a lovely idea for all who take part.

Gifgif · 29/11/2020 14:33

@ShellsandSand Thank you so, so, so much for that idea. Perfect for my DH who has slogged his way through lockdown in a tiny space and gets solace from his painting.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/11/2020 14:38

The sketch book is a lovely idea.

Feel a bit as if I'm being lectured by some people on here, and am really not in the mood for that.

I think he's had a new capo and guitar picks every year for the past ten Grin.

More paint a good idea, and nice hot chocolate.

Thanks to the people who are giving ideas and not lectures. Appreciated!

@Gifgif you're so welcome. I think the idea of it is lovely. They have over 45,000 sketchbooks in the gallery from all over the world. Your book may never get looked at but the chance that it could is just so warming. I searched the hashtag on Instagram and it seems to be a popular place where people go to admire people's art. I'm looking forward to completely mine.

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 14:42

If he plays electric guitar and doesn’t already have one you can get cool little things to attach the guitar to the amp wirelessly.

Plectrums; guitar strap; nice capo

WouldBeGood · 29/11/2020 14:44

Or a subscription to Ultimate Guitar tabs

Oceangirl82 · 29/11/2020 14:44

My son often doesn’t want anything special. Get him Premium Bonds, then add to them when you wish. Also readily accessible and could have a win

BecomeStronger · 29/11/2020 14:46

lendwithcare.org/gift-vouchers

I've pinched this idea from another thread today for a couple of young adults with no needs or wants.

I think they might enjoy choosing the business to support and following its progress.

firedragon101 · 29/11/2020 14:50

Antique sterling silver photo frame? Might not appreciate it now, but it's likely to increase in value, not take up space, and useful, he could frame one of own sketches/ painting.

firedragon101 · 29/11/2020 14:51

Or an arts and craft period frame if he's into art-deco? It's getting a bit of a revival but prices still reasonable.

instanthistoryy · 29/11/2020 15:51

iTunes voucher
Ticketmaster voucher for when gigs start again
Starbucks/costa voucher
Hotel Chocolat velvetiser
