Worried this isn’t enough for DS

Onedropbeat · 28/11/2020 14:06

DS is nearly 4 and this is what he’s getting . It’s only come to £70 in total so I’m wondering if it’s not enough as DH had mentioned how he thought it was normal to expect to spend around £100-150

Pyjamas
Book
Egg and spoon race toy
Police dress up kit
Playmobil submarine bath toy
Play dough
Toy biscuits
Cuddly toy

  • stocking fillers (the bits from Rex)

Does this sound enough?

I’m wondering if I should add some Lego or more playmobil

I think it's perfect for his age, don't forget as he gets older his wishes will be more expensive so the pile of gifts won't be so big, so I think you've got it just right

Mustbethewine · 28/11/2020 14:09

Sounds perfect for a 4 year old 🙂

mumonthehill · 28/11/2020 14:12

Keep it as low cost as you can for as long as you can!!! When you get to the x box etc on the list it all gets very expensive! He will not know the cost of anything at the moment, as this age mine had lots of second had train sets, brio and blocks. I am sure he will love these gifts.

mooncakes · 28/11/2020 14:12

Sounds fine. Enjoy this time as once they're 10 or 12 their Christmas list will be a couple of games that cost £45 each Hmm

whereshalligo · 28/11/2020 14:13

Really depends on what you can afford. Will he be getting lots of other gifts from family members. Pyjamas aren't exciting for a 4 year old and there doesn't seem to be much to actually play with Christmas Day. I would get the play mobile if it was me.

Seriously79 · 28/11/2020 14:15

This is fine. With respect OP your falling into the trap.

Don't get me wrong, my DP is just like you, he say 'ds hasn't got enough to open' I have explained to ds that as he's now 12, the stuff he likes is much more expensive, so instead of having 15 presents to open, he will now have maybe 6 or 7, but I'm a stickler for a budget, we have spent exactly the same on him this year as we did last year.

RightOnTheEdge · 28/11/2020 14:16

I don't think you should worry about how much money it costs. He's three he won't care.
If you were happy with his list before don't buy extra just for the sake of spending money.
I'm sure he will be very happy and excited with his toys and the magic of it all 🎅

Ismellphantoms · 28/11/2020 14:16

Perfect!

mineandyours · 28/11/2020 14:25

It's perfectly enough for a 4yr old.

Wherearefoxssocks · 28/11/2020 14:26

Don't buy for the sake of buying. Only get something else if you think he'll really love and actually use it. That list looks lovely

Thewinterofdiscontent · 28/11/2020 14:34

The quantity is fine but I think he could do with something else to play with on the day.

Cars sets are cheap, can be played with together or on his own ( especially with sirens or lights) and My Facebook Free Giving page is awash with people giving them away.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/11/2020 14:37

Will he be getting much from other family?

2beautifulbabs · 28/11/2020 14:53

Sounds the same as what I've done for my DS this Christmas he is almost 4 and we have gone with more role play imaginative play toys this year
We've gotten a lot of kinetic sand kit sets, a few playmobil sets, Melissa and Doug train table top set.
We've done the same for my DD who's almost 2 a lot of role play but also toys they can both share and play together with.
Melissa and Doug are worth looking at op if you did feel you wanted to get one or two more things but I agree what you've gotten sounds perfect.

Onedropbeat · 28/11/2020 14:55

@ineedaholidaynow

Will he be getting much from other family?
Yes he’ll be getting a nice gift from both sets of grandparents. He won’t see them on the day but it will be a nice amount all together overall I think

Put the rest of your budget as vouchers/in a mentally assigned box for April/May to buy some new garden toys, especially if his birthday is soon after Christmas.

paganbilly · 28/11/2020 15:02

It looks great. When I saw your thread title I wondered if you were one of those posters who says they have spent 1k and aren't sure if it's enough.

mooncakes · 28/11/2020 15:15

My 3 year old has

Pyjamas & slippers (sorry but my kids all love new pyjamas Grin)
Two books
A Playmobil set
A vet kit
A camera
Stocking fillers eg bubbles, sweets, a skipping rope, magic face cloth

PinkJam · 28/11/2020 15:21

I think it’s a lovely list but also agree with some previous posters that perhaps another toy that will give more play value for Christmas Day.

BadTattoosAndSmellLikeBooze · 28/11/2020 15:27

Has he asked for anything? At that age my kids had things they were into and wanted things around that.

copperoliver · 28/11/2020 15:29

If you can afford it. Buy the Lego and playmobil x

Hophop26 · 28/11/2020 16:02

Your list is great but doesn’t seem to have a “main” present to me, I would say go with the Lego or Playmobil or another medium/large type of toy. At 2-3 years they don’t notice if no “wow” or main/bigger type item but at 4 years old i think it makes a difference and is worth it for the magic, but only if you can afford it. I would maybe ask him if anything he wants that would be in the £30-60 ish toy category

Monkeytapper · 28/11/2020 16:19

Sounds fine, ...I love this which I’ve read on here before.....’ Something they want, something they need, something to wear and something to read.’

I’ve never done that but it’s a nice idea!

micc · 28/11/2020 16:39

That sounds perfect! I have a 4 year old and I feel I've over done it. That sounds like a lovely amount.

Camomila · 28/11/2020 17:30

That's more than my 4 year old is getting Smile

He's getting
lego
a crane truck
a childrens atlas
2 small cuddly go jetter characters

KitKat1985 · 28/11/2020 18:10

I think that's fine. He'll get other presents as well anyway I presume from other family members?
