How much money in a card?

S0CKS · 27/11/2020 20:04

I am wondering, what everybody else puts into a card for nieces/nephews? I don't have children, so won't be getting gifts for my children in return, if that makes any difference.

I think £20 for a niece or nephew.

dementedpixie · 27/11/2020 20:11

£10-£20
Depends how many you are sending cards/money to

wendz86 · 27/11/2020 20:15

Depends if I had a couple of do £20 but if I had 10 nieces and nephews id do £10.

kowari · 27/11/2020 20:20

£20 for children, I have my own child to buy for though otherwise I might spend more.

Ffsnosexallowed · 27/11/2020 20:20

We do £40 for my nephew who's the youngest ans bottle of fizz for the older ones (whose kids get presents too) its a bit ridiculous.

sunshineandshowers40 · 27/11/2020 20:24

£20 and I have 5. We are basically just swapping cash/ vouchers between families.

LindaEllen · 27/11/2020 20:25

I do £20, but if it's a special birthday (i.e. 18, 21 etc) I'll do £50.

SpnBaby1967 · 27/11/2020 20:25

£10 for xmas, £20 for birthdays. I have 9 though so it gets pricey!

newnewnewbuild · 27/11/2020 20:27

Depends how many you have but I would think £20/£25 would be good. All depends on what you can afford though. As above, if you have 10 to buy for then that may stretch your budget too far.

S0CKS · 27/11/2020 20:33

Sorry, I forgot to say how many of them there are. its 7 nieces and nephews total.

RosaBaby2 · 27/11/2020 20:35

I have 4 nephews and a niece, the 3 on my DPs side get £15 spent and 2 on my side get more, no budget really as we are very close and I understand they don't have a lot where as my DPs side are well off.

dementedpixie · 27/11/2020 20:36

Depends totally how much you want to give. Are you posting them or handing them over? If handing over you could do £10 in a card and a selection box

SBTLove · 27/11/2020 20:36

Depending on ages, young primary age £25, teenagers £50.

TheRubyRedshoes · 27/11/2020 20:36

Op what can you afford? How old are they?

For 14 and over I think 20, younger 10 would do.
But I wouldn't split up between the dc so maybe just 10.

Depends on what you can comfortably afford and want to give.

TheRubyRedshoes · 27/11/2020 20:38

Sbt

50x 7 is quite a lot of money!!

YakkityYakYakYak · 27/11/2020 20:40

£15-£20 I think for that age, especially considering you have 7 to buy for.

flowerycurtain · 27/11/2020 20:41

I do £20. However as a parent of children with aunts and uncles with no kids I buy the parents a gift normally worth equal or more. A meal out or a bottle of something nice, a posh candle set or something.

I have 3 nieces.

S0CKS · 27/11/2020 20:42

I have a reasonable budget, but I am conscious of being either OTT or tight fisted!

Ages - three of which are at secondary school and the rest upper years at primary school.

Truthfully, I don't think i'll get to hand them over :( I am stepping to one side and letting my parents and siblings with children bubble together. I'll perhaps be able to drop them off at mums door but other than that I think itll be either posted or door bell ring and go unfortunately.

@TheRubyRedshoes
I have teenagers and tbf £10/20 doesn’t go far. Obviously only if that can be afforded.
I’m not one of the MN ppl who pride themselves in a mean little Xmasz

dementedpixie · 27/11/2020 20:45

Its not mean if you can't afford to give £50 each to 7 children.

And if they get £10 /£20 from several people then it all adds up

Baileyscoffeeandcampfires · 27/11/2020 20:46

I do £15 and a selection box for the 10-18 year olds ( 5 dc over 2 family groups)
Spend nearer £20 / £30 on the under tens as more fun to buy for little one (3dc over another 2 family groups )

TheRubyRedshoes · 27/11/2020 20:50

Sbt I wouldn't expect 20 to go far from an aunt though?.. But I'd like someone to give me 20 and I'm mid rossi still get something nice with that.

Op is not the parent she's the aunt. Maybe my bar of expectation is low because extremely wealthy aunts and uncles give my dc zero each year. I've always said I can't understand why they don't put 5 in a card! I loved getting money in cards as a child.

As a parent I go all out for my dc as no other bugger does.

Op.. I think 20 each is perfect.

grafittiartist · 27/11/2020 21:02

Even a fiver in a card is nice and can be used by kids of any age.

SBTLove · 27/11/2020 21:03

@dementedpixie
I said IF affordable.

S0CKS · 27/11/2020 22:47

Thank you for all your insight.

It's an odd one this year to be honest for me I usually go gift but they're getting older and harder to buy for and with the lock down I don't want to wonder round the shops.

Think I'm going £15 each and maybe a little wrap me up if I see something in the supermarket.
