How to give Scooters, built or boxed?

Both my boys are getting scooters, DS1 its top of his list, DS2 a complete surprise. Top of his list is a truck.

Do we wrap both in boxes labelled from Santa / us? Or do we build both and label both from Santa?

build in advance is easier than doing it on the day?

Isadora2007 · 20/11/2020 01:04

Built

starfishmummy · 20/11/2020 01:05

Your kids - then build them. It will be less stressful on the day and there won't be arguments about whose is done first.

However if you are like my mil and can't build something without ruining it, then give them boxed!!

FundamentallyFucked · 20/11/2020 01:17

Built. I have never labelled anything though, the presents just appear in a pile.

I also opened boxes, assembled things and added batteries before wrapping toys etc.

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 01:18

Thanks I'll build them. I'm so looking forward to seeing their faces.
I actually managed to get DS1s preferred colour after telling him they were sold outSmile

Well hinting that lots of boys wanted the same colour and the red was a really cool colour too

you can still wrap them built

Pipandmum · 20/11/2020 02:22

Built and put a big bow on them. I do not think they'll care who gave it to them.

Mustbethewine · 20/11/2020 09:09

Built. DP did wrap them though, you could clearly tell what they were but it was fun for the kids to unwrap them 😂

Sweetener12 · 20/11/2020 09:14

Built

Equimum · 20/11/2020 09:27

Built. You could hide them under a small bike wrapper. We got one from B&M for about £2 last year, and it was much easier than wrapping.

buckeejit · 20/11/2020 09:37

We don't build, that takes some of the time after. Although I don't think scooters are too hard to build. Hopefully anyway. We have one for dd from decathlon & wont be building. But we don't wrap either. We just hope to maintain enough of a modicum of sobriety to get the gifts down without being caught late on Christmas Eve 😳

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 09:41

Built seems to be the way, don't think there is much to build anyway.

I am liking the idea of wrapped. DH will laugh when I attempt to wrap scooters.

Built with ribbons and balloons tied onto the handlebars!

kirktonhouse · 20/11/2020 10:32

Built, and use a tablecloth for wrapping.

kittykat35 · 20/11/2020 10:35

In our house it's boxed because my dc LOVE to build things!!

SoupDragon · 20/11/2020 11:01

Definitely built! I wouldn't want to be building anything on Christmas day.

Viv0321 · 20/11/2020 11:03

Built both form Santa

mamaoffourdc · 20/11/2020 11:13

Built with a bow from you not Santa! 🙄

22Giraffes · 20/11/2020 11:17

Oh dear I'm going to be the lone voice saying boxed, but that's because I have issues and always like to be the first person to unbox or open my presents for the first time Blush I think I need to stop projecting this onto other people 😂

starfishmummy · 20/11/2020 12:37

@22Giraffes youve ckearlu never given a child a present that took hours to build! Not so bad if they can build it tjemselves or at least help, but I remember the playmobile that took hours to build - ds (sn) would have been hysterical!

(The hospital. DH made the building which took 4 hours and I was simultaneously building the interior bits. So total of about 8 hours!)

FippertyGibbett · 20/11/2020 12:37

Built and wrapped

22Giraffes · 20/11/2020 12:42

@starfishmummy Oh believe me I have, many a Christmas has been spent spending hours building Lego and setting toys up! My post was only light hearted and I realise I'm an anomaly Smile

OuiOuiMonAmi · 20/11/2020 19:58

I have the perfect solution to this - build the scooter and hide it, then give the child the empty, wrapped box before giving them the built scooter! SO much easier all round - no stress trying to build it on the day, easy to wrap up... bingo!

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 23:35

OuiOuiMonAmi Oh God no I couldn't wrap empty boxes!
When DS was 3 or 4, he had his heart set on Paw Patrol.
Christmas morning his stocking was beside his bed, he brought it through to our room and emptied it. He burst into tears, absolutely heartbroken, full on sobbing, eventually we got out of him what was wrong "Santa didn't bring me Paw Patrol". Took us ages to get him to calm down and go into the living room where his Paw Patrol stuff was under the tree. Even in the photos of that morning you could see he'd been crying.
