How to give Scooters, built or boxed?

Both my boys are getting scooters, DS1 its top of his list, DS2 a complete surprise. Top of his list is a truck.

Do we wrap both in boxes labelled from Santa / us? Or do we build both and label both from Santa?

@22Giraffes I’m with you on this one. I’ve already wrapped two boxed scooters (didn’t actually occur to me to build them Confused) I’ve only got a small present hiding space and liked how neat and stackable they are in their boxes 😁

Funnyface1 · 21/11/2020 09:32

Definitely built with a bow on top. Both mine have got one this Christmas. If you want to wrap, use fabric, not wrapping paper.

All our presents and stockings are in the living room on Christmas morning to avoid upset!

We've always built things like that (for speed but also in case anything is missing!) We've sometimes done a short treasure hunt - first clue wrapped up like a little present under the tree - ending up finding the bike /scooter in the shed, behind the curtains etc.

Skipsurvey · 21/11/2020 10:41

how hard are scooters to build though?

littlestpogo · 21/11/2020 11:09

@22Giraffes you are not alone - my eldest DS (8) hates receiving presents that are already built! He likes to get them completely new in the box Grin.

Scooters are really quick to build - they usually just click together in a few minutes. I speak as someone who is severely lacking in practically assembling skills and even I managed scooters!

We had one for a birthday for a 3yo over the summer. We gave it built, in a massive cardboard box with balloons packed around the scooter and then just loosely taped the box closed with patterned tape so it was easy for her to open.

zaffa · 22/11/2020 08:11

Please can i ask what scooters you've gotten and ages of your DS? We are desperately trying to navigate the stunt scooter options for something really good and I'm so lost - they all seem the same to me!

Bikingbear · 22/11/2020 10:43

Zaffa, I'm not the person to ask. How they are Madd Gear.
The eldest was picked on colour and the youngest based on the smallest I could find. I was worried that he'd take his 3 wheeler across a ramp and topple if he didn't hit it straight.

Oh I should say boys are turning 10 and 4.

My best Christmas present memory is getting a bike, there was a big card under the tree with my name on saying follow the thread, then there was a long piece of wool I had to follow the trail around the house and it ended up tied to the bike! So you could do something like that. Or a treasure hunt.

UniversalTruth · 22/11/2020 10:50

If they are micro scooters, they take about 5 seconds to build so I would go with boxed as it's easier, plus more of a surprise - we wait to open tree presents so a wrapped scooter might be a give away Grin

bluerad · 22/11/2020 10:58

If it's a folding one, can't you build it then fold it back into the box?

Chailatte20 · 22/11/2020 11:19

Built. I'd put it together just in case there's a part missing so it's easier to return before the big day & tears.

I'd get a paper Christmas table cloth and wrap it in that with a big bow on top.

MotherExtraordinaire · 22/11/2020 12:32

If they're fold up ones, there's minimal to actually do, but I did what was needed and then put in the box, but was for a birthday.

Presents from me are always at home, so I never add tags to these as such. Unless they're a joint present.

@Bikingbear

OuiOuiMonAmi Oh God no I couldn't wrap empty boxes! When DS was 3 or 4, he had his heart set on Paw Patrol. Christmas morning his stocking was beside his bed, he brought it through to our room and emptied it. He burst into tears, absolutely heartbroken, full on sobbing, eventually we got out of him what was wrong "Santa didn't bring me Paw Patrol". Took us ages to get him to calm down and go into the living room where his Paw Patrol stuff was under the tree. Even in the photos of that morning you could see he'd been crying.
You don't let them open the box and see that it's empty though. The second they open the box and see the picture on the box, you say "and here it is!" and then present the real thing.
