Pastries for Christmas Day breakfast - how?

I've seen a couple of threads suggesting Danish pastries for Christmas Day breakfast. I'm thinking of doing it this year but just wondered what the best way is - given that you can't buy them fresh from a bakery on Christmas Day. So do you...

  1. Buy from a coffee shop the day before and reheat on Christmas Day to freshen them up
  2. Buy in advance and freeze (do Danish pastries freeze well?)
  3. Buy the part-baked kind that you cook at home (is there a good brand to go for)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you can be bothered making them, you can do all but the cooking the night before and then leave them to prove overnight in the fridge and cook in the morning. Otherwise I would buy the M&S frozen kind that you heat up on the day - not sure they do danishes but there are croissants and pain au chocolat

Buy the frozen ones. They're never quite as nice as fresh, but infinitely better than reheating fresh ones.

TheRealJeanLouise · 15/11/2020 16:12

We use the Jus-Rol ones. They’re perfect!

Hoppinggreen · 15/11/2020 16:14

Already frozen or jus roll

treeeeemendous · 15/11/2020 16:15

Frozen - our local farm shop sell them individually and they're great but I've seen them in bags in the supermarkets before which I assume would be just as good.

I have a recipe for cinnamon buns where they are left to prove overnight in the fridge for baking in the morning. This is our Christmas Eve breakfast:)

These are the best www.ocado.com/products/picard-6-pains-au-chocolat-frozen-494531011
Or get these if you’re passing M&S www.ocado.com/products/m-s-12-mini-all-butter-pastries-ready-to-bake-frozen-528086011

Waitrose frozen are great, mixed mini bag of 12 and you are done.

RaspAsYouChokeOnTheToupee · 15/11/2020 16:26

Buy the frozen ones or jus-roll ones. Frozen ones require even less washing up Grin

If you ever take advice from MN let it be this... frozen M&S croissants are the ONLY frozen supermarket croissants worth buying (including Waitrose!) I think M&S do other frozen pastries too but not tried then.

The croissants are heavenly

TigerMoon · 15/11/2020 16:52

Thanks all - think we'll give the M&S frozen selection a try!

We buy butter croissant from a supermarket bakery. Freeze them. Ten/fifteen minutes in the oven on Christmas Day, while the coffee brews, gorgeous.

NewLockdownNewMe · 15/11/2020 18:42

If you’re near an IKEA, get their frozen cinnamon rolls, yummy!

bruffin · 15/11/2020 18:47

Get the Waitrose frozen pastries or if you are near a farm shop type place
frozen pastries are really nice

LunaHardy · 15/11/2020 18:48

Another vote for jus-rol!

simonthedog · 15/11/2020 18:51

I just buy the fresh ones from M &S in the four packs and freeze them. Then take them out of the freezer on Christmas Eve and in the oven for a few minutes before eating.

Lidl - delicious Danish pastries and chocolate croissants. Warm through on Christmas Day.

Bought the Asda frozen ready to bake croissants this week, 6 in a bag, bake in 20 mins. They are excellent.

Yellowcar2 · 15/11/2020 19:07

My kids loves crossaints and have tried a few brands. We've found Aldi best!

They are horrible leave a nasty coating of oil in your mouth.

UndertheCedartree · 15/11/2020 19:16

I usually buy them the 23rd or 24th and heat in the oven and they're fine. This year I've got the frozen ones from M&S to bake on Christmas morning.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 15/11/2020 19:20

Tesco do lovely frozen pastries and croissants and a good selection is usually available. I've tried the jus rol ones in a weird tin/tube thing and found them awful. Frozen ones are a breeze.

Belle1983 · 15/11/2020 19:31

Definitely M&S!
There frozen pain aux raisin pastries are gorgeous, currently on the pain aux chocolate as that's all my local had but really nice too.

If you've got somewhere near you that stocks Field Fare frozen pastries, then they are the best ones I've tried. Croissants, pain au chocolat and cinnamon rolls!

CosyQueen · 15/11/2020 19:43

Frozen m&s ones!
