Are you doing presents for your DC’s class teacher?

The teachers are gong above and beyond at my DC’s school, but not sure whether a present will be frowned upon because of the circumstances. What are you doing?

They won't be allowed to take them. Covid again

TK1930 · 14/11/2020 20:06

Amazon Voucher?

AaronPurr · 14/11/2020 20:08

Genuinely curious, but why wouldn't they be allowed to take them?
Forgetaboutme · 14/11/2020 20:10

Yeh. But I also gave a summer gift despite covid when I went to the school to pick up the end of year items so I know its ok at my sons school.

YellowPostItPad · 14/11/2020 20:12

They can quarantine them for 72 hrs.

wendz86 · 14/11/2020 20:13

We have teachers at end of summer term and all teachers accepted no problem . Could always do a voucher though if you don’t think they will be able to and email it .

jocktamsonsbairn · 14/11/2020 20:15

Send it in 72 hours before the end of term and it should be fine! Will probably be really appreciated!

Nikhedonia · 14/11/2020 20:19

Not a chance.

TheStripes · 14/11/2020 20:22

Yes, a voucher. Most of the parents in the class club together.

elQuintoConyo · 14/11/2020 20:23

Nope. Never do.

moronseverywhere1 · 14/11/2020 20:26

We gave them at summer it was fine, they didn't quarantine them Hmm will be giving them as usual on the last day.

Marilla1966 · 14/11/2020 20:27

They each have a bottle of Baileys Chocolate Luxe wrapped up for them. They deserve it and more! X

3JsMa · 14/11/2020 20:32

No.
We just give flowers& chocolates at the end of the school year.I think that's pretty enough.

sherryperry · 14/11/2020 20:36

Absolutely. I've also given cupcakes just before half term to school and nursery to say a big thank you. My dc are thriving back at school after lockdown and I know how hard things are.

AppleKatie · 14/11/2020 20:38

Yes parents are transferring money to one specific mum who will then buy an online voucher and email to the teacher. Gratitude shown and no Covid risk.

kingat · 14/11/2020 21:04

Can i ask how to actually give the gifts? I mean do I put it in my sons bag for him to give it to the teacher in class (hoping he wont forget) put it in book bag? At the gate? But then we are supposed to keep our distance.I have never done it, so really no idea

sherryperry · 14/11/2020 21:29

My advice is to put it in a gift bag. Your child can give it to the teacher who can sanitise hands after receiving it and quarantine if they wish

UndertheCedartree · 14/11/2020 21:33

I've already got DD's teacher a Cath Kidston hand cream that I picked up reduced so I hope she can give it to her. Gift bag is good idea. They said the other day DC can't do cards for each other (already bought those too!) but nothing about presents as yet.

Iwantacookie · 14/11/2020 21:44

I normally by a big box of biscuits thinking if nothing else they can leave them in the staff room.
I'll probably send them in a week before so if the teachers wants to quarantine it they can do.

JinglesWish · 14/11/2020 22:05

Yes, I’ve bought presents for the 2 teachers (job share) and the TA. Good suggestion on the gift bag. I’ll send them all in a big gift bag at the start of last week of term. We do handover at the classroom door so DS can hand it to the teacher then

earthyfire · 14/11/2020 22:11

No.

NullcovoidNovember · 14/11/2020 23:32

Surely if they are not given on the last day they can be quarantined? I'm hoping to do small gift bag but I expect a missive will go out about not being able to receive?

pinkksugarmouse · 14/11/2020 23:36

Most teachers on these threads say every year that they are inundated with things they don't need and won't use. I doubt most schools will be accepting it this year.

TheCrow · 14/11/2020 23:49

We always get a message from the school saying no gifts please and to save our money but if we really want to show our gratitude to the teachers then a hand drawn card or picture is the most appreciated. They've said that this year especially they're trying to minimise items coming in from home so requested that nothing is sent in.

MinnieMountain · 15/11/2020 08:50

No. I’ve never understood why we give some people presents simply for doing a job they chose to do and not others.
