Xmas desserts

I have a bad feeling I asked the same last year...

What do you have if you don't like Xmas pud, those chocolate Xmas roll things or meringues. We don't have starters, I'm thinking probably roast chicken/maybe turkey (although let's face it, noone really likes turkey, it's all about the veg and sides) so I think we probably want a pudding. I think last year we had blocks of chocolate but I honestly can't remember....

Trifle? Cheese board?

ZZGirl · 11/11/2020 21:59

Crumble!

Aposterhasnoname · 11/11/2020 22:01

Sticky toffee pudding

TinySongstress · 11/11/2020 22:03

Arctic roll!

FrankiesKnuckle · 11/11/2020 22:04

I love turkey - when it's cooked properly!

I'd skip dessert to leave room for cheeses later.

Pipandmum · 11/11/2020 22:04

My mum used to make apple pie. We had her amazing Christmas cake and apple pie.

plixy · 11/11/2020 22:05

My husband always asks for pear tarte tatin. Being a fussy bugger with desserts this is one thing he likes. Not what I want to cook after doing the whole roast!

KitKatastrophe · 11/11/2020 22:07

Most of the shops have lots of different pudding options, they know most people dont like christmas pudding. Last year my husband had a big star shaped chocolate cheesecake with gold leaf from aldi. I've seen chocolate or salted caramel.bombe pudding things, roulades, cheesecakes, festive ice cream.anything goes!

chocolatespiders · 11/11/2020 22:10

Choc pine cones from M and S

WinWinnieTheWay · 11/11/2020 22:14

Xmas Pudding, Mince Pies, Trifle, cheese board or tin of Roses.

1manwenttomow · 11/11/2020 22:15

A tub of celebrations/roses/lindts etc that just get passed around during the evening, if we were going to have a 'proper dessert I'd go for slightly under cooked chewy type brownies with good quality vanilla ice cream.

copperoliver · 11/11/2020 22:20

I buy my desserts from M&S. x

katy1213 · 11/11/2020 22:22

Was going to say Mont Blanc, but you don't like meringue. Chocolate nemesis? Homemade ice-cream? Brandysnaps? Chocolate box filled with chocolates? Zabaglione? Lemon posset and tuiles? Some kind of frangipane tart? Tarte tatin?

didireallysaythat · 11/11/2020 22:23

Apple pie might work - noone really likes chocolate cake/flan/cheesecake/mince pies and while I love cheese it's not really a kids thing is it?

My grandmother used to do a fruit salad but that feels a little too retro and joyless (I'd love it, and wouldn't mind the left overs going back in the fridge !)

Every year I buy one of Xmas magazines looking for inspiration but this year I just feel rather naseous having looked at the pictures. It's all chocolate and double cream!

I do sticky toffee pudding and toffee or white chocolate yule log for DC.

TheCrow · 11/11/2020 22:24

I've got my eye on an apple and salted caramel tart from Tesco, either with ice cream or clotted cream on top.

Thermo · 11/11/2020 22:26

Melt in the middle choc pudding

katy1213 · 11/11/2020 22:26

@plixy But it is the pudding of the gods!

Elouera · 11/11/2020 22:31

I usually do a pavlova with lots of fruit. Its much lighter after a Christms dinner than a pudding.

katy1213 · 11/11/2020 22:31

Build-your-own knickerbocker glories with sparklers for the children?

UndertheCedartree · 11/11/2020 22:34

My DC have a chocolate pudding.

I've ordered a profiterole dessert from M&S for Christmas Eve. Also seen some nice desserts from Aldi - pavlova and artic roll.

Pamelaaaaa · 11/11/2020 22:34

I'm making chocolate ganache with a layer of cherry compote in the middle and cream on top. Not even sure it's a thing but I was messing around the other day and made some and they were very well received!

AdaColeman · 11/11/2020 22:35

Pear Belle Helene, you can cheat and use tinned pears, especially if the wine has been flowing freely!

Spiced caramel oranges, make ahead, serve chilled, so very easy, decorate with pomegranate seeds.

My favourite is a glass of liqueur and a selection of things such as dates stuffed with marzipan, fancy chocolate biscuits, chocolate mousse, mini eclairs, spiced gingerbread etc etc.

suze28 · 11/11/2020 22:36

BBC good food have a brilliant clementine and cranberry wreath pavlova recipe. It's a real centrepiece desert.

MiniMum97 · 11/11/2020 22:39

I always have mince pies and cream or custard. Bloody love mince pies.
