Do you buy yourself a Christmas present?

I do every year.
This year it's a bottle of flowerbomb perfume and a dressing gown.
What have you bought yourself ?

I love the gifts I buy for myself. The gifts I receive from others are usually meh and I give a lot of that away.

P.s. No one needs the Grinch on this board, especially after such a shit year.

Lovemusic33 · 12/11/2020 10:20

Exactly, I buy the best presents for myself 😁, I love getting exactly what I wanted rather than a gift that will end up in landfill or in the school raffle.

ouchmyfeet · 12/11/2020 10:20

I always do now. A few years ago I had a Christmas where I looked at the pile of stuff that my OH had bought from him and the kids and just resigned myself to buying my own presents from now on. I didn't tell him, he still buys me absolute crap that rarely reflects my tastes, but at least now i always get something that I actually want.

I used to feel offended/upset at how little he appeared to know me or what I want but I'm over that now. He's absolutely clueless about anything luxurious, it's just not in him to spend more than you need to on something so he would never choose something that I wouldn't buy myself - which I think is the best present!

Enb76 · 12/11/2020 10:22

Yes - I'm a single parent and who else is going to buy me something I actually want? I buy my own birthday presents too - this year I got an Apple Watch, such a generous gift Grin

fastandthecurious · 12/11/2020 10:45

DH is a better present buyer than I am so not for Christmas no. But I love a treat for myself and usually try and put a bit of money aside for myself every now and then, usually for nice pajamas or a makeup treat, although I never wear makeup anymore now that I have to wear a mask everywhere haha!

WhentheDealGoesDown · 12/11/2020 10:51

Most certainly, usually more than one, it’s the only way I get what I really want

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/11/2020 10:56

@Enb76
For my 40th I got a ticket to see Harry Styles who is my absolute favourite.
I'm a great gift buyer for myselfGrin

amusedtodeath1 · 12/11/2020 11:16

After years of really bad gifts (or no gifts at all), I now treat myself at Christmas. This year I've gone all out and done everyone stockings (including the dog) and have bought myself White Co Goodies, PJs, Fake Oodie, Slippers and some bits. I got so fed up of putting all that effort in for everyone else when no one did anything near that for me, so now I include myself in my plans too.Grin

Enb76 · 12/11/2020 12:18

Exactly. I really put thought into the gifts I give. Make sure people have something that they'll love and I get some fucking horrible strawberry shit from the Boots bargain bin.

I get that the gift is in the giving and truly, when I give my daughter something she absolutely loves the joy and pleasure on her face is present enough but I love her very much. I still get joy from giving my wider family presents but I'd rather not have a present from them at all rather than a shit one.

Lampzade · 12/11/2020 12:24

I buy myself a Christmas and birthday present.
This year for my birthday, I bought myself a lovely bag and a box of chocolates. I refused to share the chocolates with anyone .

Jumbojem · 12/11/2020 12:56

I think as women do most of the gift buying it's absolutely legitimate to get ourselves something. Especially if no one else does. I don't tend to for Christmas but my birthday is in November so I usually have a solo shopping trip which includes buying myself some things I like. Sadly this year it's only a trip to Waitrose for nice dinner bits. So I think I'll order some things I've been mulling over online for a while, why not!

Kage1986 · 12/11/2020 15:30

I should start doing that! I posted on other threads already that I have been asking for an original, cool movie posters and that I keep sending my family these links displate.com/kevingen/movie-posters?art=5d024da88efc1

I never got a darn one though, so maybe I should treat myself this year haha

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/11/2020 16:26

Its my birthday this month and I'm looking at stuff to see what I'm having.

pinkksugarmouse · 12/11/2020 17:25

@73kittycat73

Ah, you see it wasn't just me @ pinkksugarmouse , my mum claimed her old cat had a card and that she was very generous with it! Grin Maybe offer your cat some tuna and see what happens....Xmas Grin
My cat is so Fussy. The only thing she will eat is fresh chicken breast. I'm vegan but DH isn't so he feeds her. She has two beds. She is a dictator who occasionally bestows her benevolence on us in her own way. 😂

You gotta love them haven't you? ❤️ Worship me humans. 😂

pinkksugarmouse · 12/11/2020 17:28

Enb76 I can understand that. You either want people to want to make a bit of effort and if you aren't deemed worthy of that then it's more honest of them to not bother. Buying tat seems quite passive aggressive.

VerbenaGirl · 12/11/2020 17:34

Never mean to. But often do! Just lovely things that I come across when shopping for others. Just too much of a faff to try and communicate details with others, in a Christmas list type way.

Notthisnotthat · 12/11/2020 17:34

Yes I do buy myself "gifts", after a few years of getting random gifts or getting nothing. I treat myself to things I do like. Why would my BIL buy my clothes? I've not seen him in years, he doesn't know me well, why clothes? With no receipt. I'm really easy to buy for, honest, but I don't drink so a tea cup set with Prosecco on it is random. But I do always have stuff for school raffles.

Ihatesandwiches · 12/11/2020 17:36

I do! After 5 years of receiving an old lady scarf from the local garden centre from exDP, which I have to wear, or DD gets upset, I now text him mid November with £5 suggestions. If, after Christmas there is something around the £20 mark that I want, I buy it!

EternalOptimist7 · 12/11/2020 17:39

Never even thought about it! The nearest I get is a new diary & calendar.

LynetteScavo · 12/11/2020 17:44

No, but I do buy myself a birthday present.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/11/2020 17:57

My old cat would always buy me a pair of shoes for Christmas. She had amazing taste & would always get me a fabulous pair, though her gift wrapping left a lot to be desired Grin

The cat I have now always gets me some nice make up or skincare but she gets them gift wrapped as she had a previous bad experience with sellotape Grin

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 12/11/2020 18:06

Yes usually. DH will come up with a couple of bits but it's mostly me. He chooses most of his own stuff too, again with a few things I thought of on top.

For example, this year he thinks he wants a smart watch and he will research and choose it all himself. My job is to procure and then hide it, and vice versa. I think I want a pair of boots so I'll have to go into town and try them on etc.

I just much, much prefer this way. I don't want him to try and second guess what boots I might like or get ones that don't fit. Presents that aren't perfectly suited actually distress me, so wasteful. I just don't care about being "surprised" at all. I actually prefer not to be!

PhilCornwall1 · 12/11/2020 18:11

No, to be honest, I'm happy not getting anything at all for Christmas, there isn't anything I really want.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 12/11/2020 18:31

I've filled my basket at a local bookshop with books I fancy, dh will pay for them/pick them up though.

Onedropbeat · 12/11/2020 18:44

I also buy myself something on the children’s birthdays.
As if anything, I should be congratulated for the birth itself and keeping a small human alive for a year

Usually it’s a nice bottle of wine or fizz so I tend to share it with DH and we have a toast
