Lapland uk rant

Laplandhelluk · 10/11/2020 18:48

I’m so utterly disappointed with how they have dealt with the lockdown bookings.
Superstars (disabled children) have been let down. Their slogan of every child matters is complete rubbish. Most children with additional needs do not live long lives and they may never have the chance to have children of their own to carry on any traditions or experiences, they literally have a few years and this year lapland uk has taken this from them by making sure they don’t matter, all because they wanted to keep as much revenue as possible. All of this is made worse by reading that alot of people who booked superstar tickets don’t even have a child or adult with any additional needs. The whole thing just leaves a very bad taste and i know there’s a pandemic but i can’t help but be upset for my child

@IKEA888

Asd is a disability, it's lifelong and makes family life very hard. Getting dla is a hard slog, dd was 11 before she got it, they have to be significantly behind peers to get it which as with most asd kids isn't until they approach puberty. (You don't get dla because your kid is hard work alas!) I've spent the day sorting things for my 21 year old, parents aren't meant to still be doing this stuff by then! Asd is hard work.

"Tweet, contact celebs etc.. Write an email asking why they did this.. Threaten papers.."

Oh ffs Hmm

CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 11/11/2020 21:02

Just to add my refund was in full - tickets, insurance, postage and booking fees.

Laplandhelluk · 11/11/2020 21:05

That is brilliant, how long did it take?

Oh that's a relief, thanks!
CometCupidDonnerBlitzen · 11/11/2020 21:20

Be aware though some are complaining on facebook that they are now refusing to give back the insurance. Just another inconsistency. I just asked for a refund and had presumed I wouldn't get of the extras back so was pleased to see I got the full amount.

They told me it would take 21 working days, I gave them 5 and then complained as I'd seen some people getting them after 2-3 days. It worked and it was back in my account 8 days after first requesting it.

Laplandhelluk · 11/11/2020 21:26

Yes i have seen those complaints and i have said on this post it is proving to be very hit or miss with the refunds

@BettysSpaghetti

other places, theatres and theme parks allow the disabled to attend any day they want and include a free carer. Lapland uk do not

They only let disabled attend on certain days? Surely that is hugely discriminatory!

Disabled people are able to visit on any day with a limited number of free career tickets.

The superstar days are designed for people who need a quieter experience with lower crowd levels.

I get that it’s frustrating but they can’t magic up more days to host more superstar days on and they have already taken bookings for other days. What do they do, is it fair to disappoint a second round of children by cancelling their bookings to make space?

Laplandhelluk · 11/11/2020 21:52

Again i will repeat myself, lapland have frozen the bookings so any disabled person booked on a superstar day can not now book any other day.

Noone has said they should cancel other bookings, they simply should have been inclusive and allow all bookings the chance to get a pre christmas slot and yes it really is that easy

OP posts:
Laplandhelluk · 11/11/2020 21:57

Alot of the comments on this post really show how the abled do not want their children mixing with the disabled.
There is no excuse for how lapland has dealt with this.
The tours are running at lower capacity probably similar to a superstar day, there is no reason why they couldn’t allow disabled people to join those tours with the new 8am slots they have provided. They have no balid reason to freeze the superstar bookings out of the new pre christmas slots or even be given the opportunity to buy any of the pricier slots that are available

OP posts:
myhobbyisouting · 11/11/2020 22:01

Because you haven't got a booking for a December pre Christmas slot!

They have lost a fortune this year, they can't subsidise their premium dates.

2 years ago a November superstar day was £69 per ticket. Those days also have limited numbers.

We went in the week leading up to Christmas and it was £130 per ticket. At 100% capacity.

It is unfortunate and disappointing just like everything this year but you are trying to make it into something it isn't.

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/11/2020 22:01

I selected to bump to next year as my children’s school bubbles are constantly at threat of bursting and I can’t take the stress. So far I’ve found Lapland UK very good in terms of helpfulness and answering emails promptly.

Laplandhelluk · 11/11/2020 22:08

They have subsidised their premium slots, they have allowed november bookings, some who have paid just £79 to get a december booking for no extra charge

Laplandhelluk · 11/11/2020 22:11

I’m glad they have answered your emails, i still live in hope mine will be answered. I am choosing a refund and again hoping this happens

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/11/2020 22:12

I’m sure it will. I’m sorry you’ve had all this stress ♥️

andadietcoke · 11/11/2020 22:15

@Laplandhelluk yes... but they've been careful with it, letting the people who had more expensive tickets get earlier access so the subsidy was smaller. I had £85 tickets and when I went to book today there were no weekends available, or days in school holidays.

Yes very selective.
They could have given us the chance to upgrade before but they kept commenting on their facebook page telling people to stay put patiently. They then froze us that listened to them out

Anyone Change their superstar day?

Laplandhelluk · 13/11/2020 13:42

I’ve requested for a refund, third time lucky i hope 🤞
I did try the link but weirdly the 30th wasn’t showing as an option to book

NullcovoidNovember · 13/11/2020 13:50

Mine were 89 and I was able to move mine easily . I had to be super fast as times were flying out as I was trying to book.

justanotherneighinparadise · 13/11/2020 15:00

Ive requested to change to next year. Hoping that will be smooth and we can get the date we booked this year which is a special occasion date.

Viv0321 · 13/11/2020 15:15

I have even had an email from them at all!

blue25 · 13/11/2020 15:24

You’re coming across as over dramatic. There’s a pandemic. Everyone one is struggling and they’re trying to keep their business viable. I’m not sure why you’re taking it so personally.

andadietcoke · 19/11/2020 10:20

Anyone who's been to Lapland UK before - how do they 'smuggle' the surprise toy out to you so the kids don't see it?! I'm slightly bewildered by the notion that my two would miss anything at all!
