Do you wrap presents from Santa?

When I was younger, presents from Santa were set out in the living room unwrapped but still in box/packaging. In some way it felt more 'real' as presents from grandparents etc came wrapped Grin

I did the same for one year old DD last year though set up toys and unpacked them so they were easier to play with. I'm now wondering what to do this year, she's only just two so no real idea of what's happening but I think this will be the year I set the tradition.

What does everyone else do? To wrap or not to wrap?

Father Christmas only brings stockings (well, sacks) here, each present is wrapped. It’s more exciting this way. They were always wrapped when I was a child too so just carried on.
I used to hide paper and use that for secret Santa supplies. I can’t be arsed anymore, it’s stressful enough keeping presents hidden, I can’t be bothered having to hide bloody wrapping paper too Grin

Badabingbadabum · 09/11/2020 23:55

Wrapped in different paper. Father christmas puts a few things in the stockings and brings a couple of bigger presents because he just can't fit all the presents for all the children on the sleigh I don't want them to expect to much and I don't want santa to take all the credit for the great toys!

jocktamsonsbairn · 10/11/2020 00:11

Everything is wrapped - more exciting!

ArcheryAnnie · 10/11/2020 00:15

Stocking comes from Father Christmas. Socks, a book, chocolate, a soap on a rope, etc etc. Small traditional things, plus nuts and an orange and an apple!

Everything else is from real people. Extra big presents from "Santa" are a rod for your own back.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 10/11/2020 00:17

Nope. The children understand that we have asked santa not to wrap so as to reduce waste and not to be adding to landfill (wrapping paper not always recyclable). They don't feel they miss out, they like that Santa sets out their gifts in their own zones in the sitting room.

butterry · 10/11/2020 00:24

Santa brings one present that is wrapped in different paper and left with a little note next to his plate of mince pie crumbs instead of under the tree

Scarby9 · 10/11/2020 00:35

Santa brings the stocking gifts and a box of chocolates wrapped in different wrapping paper and labelled 'love from Santa'.

RainingDogs · 10/11/2020 00:40

Mine were never wrapped but my best friend's were! It was a clue that led to starting to disbelieve, that Santa wrapped hers and not mine. We wrap our kid's stocking pressies as it lasts longer that way.

thelegohooverer · 10/11/2020 05:51

At the start I didn’t wrap; in fact I took off the packaging and left toys assembled. But then we watched a Barney Christmas Special when the dc were 3 and 2 and he visited the wrapping room in the North Pole Hmm

Now they get special paper that reflects their current obsession/ interest which does make it easier to distinguish which gift is for which child.

I remember falling on a gift that Santa brought for my big dsis and my dps not having the heart to take it off me I was so thrilled with it. I don’t remember how that worked out for her though!

FC wraps using last year's paper. As he is environmentally responsible!

MarmaladeTeepee · 10/11/2020 06:08

Santa only does the stockings here. Wrapped in tissue paper as much easier and only need a tiny piece of sellotape to secure.

MrsPworkingmummy · 10/11/2020 06:13

In our house, all gifts in stockings and under the tree are from Father Christmas. They are nicely wrapped and, when under the tree, mixed with other presents we've bought for family members so that they have to search for theirs. I've never met anyone in real life who gives only a stocking from Santa. We just say all the presents we've bought are from him (but those bought from family members are from those people) and that is certainly the norm up here in the NE. Its only on mumsnet that I've heard of parents not wanting Santa to take all the credit?

Calligraphy572 · 10/11/2020 06:14

No wrapping on Santa's gift - it's out in pride of place before the tree, maybe with a bow, to be discovered and played with immediately. Anything else is just Christmas heresy. Grin

MarmaladeTeepee · 10/11/2020 06:33

@MrsPworkingmummy well I'm from the NE and we only do stockings. I work in a primary school and I have never heard children discuss what Santa does or doesn't bring. Nor have I ever had that conversation with my friends. It's up to each family how they do it, but I wouldn't worry about children discussing it amongst themselves. By the time the children come back after the holidays most of them have forgotten what they got anyway let alone who it was off!

Brilliant!
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 10/11/2020 07:09

I wrap everything. I've even been known to wrap the chocolate coins and fruit. Santa bring sticking and a present, sometimes joint. Nothing to do with credit, it's more the understanding they gift buying goes both ways. They help choose presents for it people and for toy collections (so Santa can take extra presents to parents who can't afford many)

Beamur · 10/11/2020 07:16

Stocking presents were from FC, wrapped in paper covered with FC images (ego). All presents under the tree were friends and family. FC never brought big or expensive gifts as he has a lot of kids to get presents for and only do much room on the sleigh.

CherryPavlova · 10/11/2020 07:19

No, the elves do that before delivery silly.
I don’t have supplies of elf wrap or happy sprinkle and can’t speak or write names in Polar Elf language.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 10/11/2020 07:28

All presents are from Santa except for family bought presents and 1 family game from DP and I. All presents are wrapped.
1 child clicked that the wrapping paper I used to wrap gifts to family was the same paper on xmas morning. She was so happy as she thought Santa and I have the same wrapping paper.

Zoflorabore · 10/11/2020 07:32

We’ve only ever done presents from Santa, same as when I was a little girl.

Last year our dd was almost 9 and told us that “she knew” which was a bit of a relief, not because of the money. More that she would write things that sometimes didn’t even exist!

So last year on Christmas Eve which is when we wrap, we decided to just display everything.
One area of the living room for dd and the other area of the living room for ds ( then 16 ) and it was so much better.

We will be doing it again.

When the presents were from Santa though they were always wrapped. One type of paper for ds and another type for dd. We did ask them about last years way and neither of them were bothered.

We have previously sat up until 3/4am wrapping presents Blush

TeenPlusTwenties · 10/11/2020 07:39

Stockings only from Santa here, but presents wrapped to slow the excitement.

lazylinguist · 10/11/2020 07:42

Only stockings from Father Christmas here - not wrapped.

Unihorn · 10/11/2020 07:42

All of our stuff comes from Father Christmas so is all fully assembled and wrapped, even ridiculous shaped ones.

ShipOfTheseus · 10/11/2020 07:44

Santa only brings stocking presents and they are wrapped - in different paper to family presents.

Horehound · 10/11/2020 07:45

Some will say yes and some will say no.
Just do your own thing. There is no right way, just what you're used to.
