Wow gift for dm

Need a wow gift for dm.

She's worked like crazy this year (key worker) despite having health conditions. Me and dB live abroad and won't be able to visit. Looks like her dog will have to be put down before Christmas.

I recently was moaning how having dd at home is causing loads of extra housework and having a cordless vacuum would be a godsend. Few days later a new shark arrived from dm.

So she deserves a wow present. Any ideas? Has to look impressive and be a special treat. No food (strict diet due to health condition) and no experience days because of lockdown. What presents have you really loved in the past?

I was thinking this as an early gift but it's sold out, plus the amount of packaging makes me cringe a bit.

I got my mum a Coach handbag on her 60th, that went down well.

Doidontimmm · 07/11/2020 08:19

What about a paw print done in silver/copper of her dogs paw? I will try and find a photo of mine.

Here it is...

I think an advent calendar is a nice idea so that she gets a little treat every day in December. Especially if she might lose ddog around that time.

Does she like jewellery?:

Some decent perfume. I asked for Acqua Di Parma last Christmas as I would never buy it for myself.

A l'occitaine hamper - I imagine you can make one up online.

Some nice PJs.

Nice poncho.

A pop art picture of her dog - I was looking at these yesterday.

Favourite thing I own and a gift from a dear relative. I was overseas and it came wrapped beautifully like a cuddle in a box. They do beautiful blankets too.

CommanderBurnham · 07/11/2020 08:40

Apple Watch?

Has added benefits- ecg, pulse ox, fall alarm depending on if she needs it.

Jewellery

Lindy2 · 07/11/2020 08:42

Does she like flowers? I got my mum a flower subscription where a different bouquet of flowers were delivered every month. She really enjoyed it.

Defiantly41 · 07/11/2020 08:48

As a diabetic, I'd say please don't do the diabetic food hamper, they're mainly horrible! Hotel Chocolat used to do a less sugar selection box of chocolates but don't seem to do them any more Sad. I've found that 85% cocoa chocolate has less sugar/carb than diabetic chocolate anyway, and none of the nasties (the artificial sweeteners in diabetic sweets and chocolate can have a laxative effect), but only if you like dark chocolate- try Waitrose own brand 90% Ecuador or Lindt 85% or 90%

Oxyiz · 07/11/2020 08:49

It sounds like she's not into branded stuff. How about several super personalised things? Etsy has lots of options. For example, you could get a bracelet or necklace in your handwriting like this one: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/208838006/signature-bracelet-handwriting-bracelet

EatPrayYoga · 07/11/2020 08:53

A fitness watch (PP suggested I watch) is a good idea if you think she'll use it. Might encourage her to stay active if she's feeling down.

I just got myself a hotel chocolat velvetiser and love it so what about something like that or a coffee machine?

Billericaydicky · 07/11/2020 08:56

My best presents and I'm 61, have been an iwatch, ipad and echo. I like l'occitane but not so wow.

But you would be far better off with one piece of jewellery than 22 cheap things!
mogloveseggs · 07/11/2020 09:00

There's a smaller advent calendar ?

EatPrayYoga · 07/11/2020 09:01

The JL advent calendar is nice

Howmanysleepsnow · 07/11/2020 09:46

L’occitane hamper, plus photocharms that fit her Pandora bracelet? Or some sort of subscription (I highly recommend Willoughby Book Club)

CatbearAmo · 07/11/2020 11:04

So I think I am going to go for the next lower price advent calendar that is still in stock and then get a photo puzzle + nice gift for Christmas. So she has something small and nice every day as well as a present on Christmas. I don't usually get her a calendar so it will still be "wow" in the sense she won't be expecting it

CatbearAmo

Sounds like you have made up your mind (some lovely ideas on here) but just in case you haven't can I recommend you take a look at this website theprettywittycompany? It has got some beautiful personalised items on there. Anyone who I have recommended them to have been delighted with their products. PS I don't work for them I promise!

ktsc89 · 07/11/2020 11:30

The new Samsung tablet (basic one rather than the fancy ones that are more like a PC) are £200. I'm asking for one for Xmas as I'm expecting and thought it'd be lovely to have one so I could do Skype calls when baby arrives. As you live abroad you could gift the same and explain you had the same idea in mind?

Then download Netflix, bbc I player etc for her so it's ready to go?

Blueuggboots · 07/11/2020 11:34

A lovely hand drawn picture of the dog? I can recommend an artist not me who did a beautiful drawing of our dog we had put down last year....my OH was overwhelmed.

This one? It looks good.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 07/11/2020 11:41

I’d get her the L’occitane calendar linked above as you know she loves it.

Then the other gifts as you’ve mentioned. Maybe a lovely piece of jewellery. Otherwise you can’t go wrong with a cashmere scarf and hat (if she lives in a country where she’ll need warm things) as that’s just so lovely and luxuriously soft and is a real pleasure to wear.

HollyandIvyandallthingsYule · 07/11/2020 11:46

Oh just seen that she’s in the U.K. Then I’d definitely recommend a cashmere scarf and hat (or gloves) as her main present - it’s so soft, a real treat to wear. Maybe a fancy Christmas decoration to open on the first and put on the tree? Something from Georg Jensen (my favourite)! They do bargain prices on selected items in Black Friday sales and I think you can have it gift wrapped.

CatbearAmo · 07/11/2020 13:53

@LaBodDelMed that's the one I've ordered!

I agree with advent calendar, a portrait of her dog and I think something personal from her GC. I don’t know where you are but something like a hand painted mug
