Do you ever dream of a beautiful, luxury designer Christmas?

Inspired by the Lockdown dreaming stocking thread, do any of you ever wish for the sort of beautiful designer packaging all stacked up round the tree- lots of beautiful packages, each with a beautiful thing in?

I have lovely Christmas experiences - I am lucky, I am loved and have a family to swap presents with- I'm not generally materialistic but I sometimes have a dream of a hotel bar- Christmas piano music playing and exchanging amazing designer gifts in beautifully professionally wrapped packages. Anyone else?

I'd like to try to it, at least once. Although the fancy hotel bar doesn't lend itself to my post dinner nap in front of a kids film.

I'm happy with what I have though, so like you I'll appreciate what I have already.

crochetmonkey74 · 06/11/2020 11:43

Yes I really do appreciate my life- DP is good at presents but we are sensible (want need wear read with a modest budget) and so is my family. This is just something I have always fancied experiencing- maybe I will organise it for myself one year!

Yes, I have strived for this for a while. Between lockdown and this year our first Christmas with a baby, I fear it will be primary-coloured chaos and a slightly non-traditional meal with just the three of us, so I’m thinking maybe it’s one to reconsider for 2047...

formerbabe · 06/11/2020 11:52

Yeah but kids ruin that shit.

crochetmonkey74 · 06/11/2020 12:29

I've struggled with lockdown , and had a tough year or two with bereavements, work stress etc so maybe now is the time to think about doing all these things I have always wanted to do (even if they are shallow like this one)

Remember in Home Alone 2, when they're all in an amazing suite and there is a huge Christmas tree with loads of gifts under? Always thought that looked ace. A tasteful and calm Christmas sounds nice but in reality it would be a bit dull. What makes Christmas fun is all the silly games, over indulging, random things that don't go to plan etc.

reluctantbrit · 06/11/2020 15:26

Yes and no. I just don’t appreciate luxury version of what I have/wish for/get enough to dream of them.

What I dream off are these 5* luxury lodges somewhere where there is tons of snow over Christmas. Like on these hallmark movies I watch too much when ironing.

I would love to have Christmas in the snow but even the Alps are not secure enough and with DD in school, time is not there to fly to Canada or some of the US states. So I am counting years until she is at least in college.

crochetmonkey74 · 06/11/2020 17:08

Ooh yeah reluctant that sounds amazing

I mostly dream of the Wham! Last Christmas ski lodge type Christmas, only without the heartbreak-y drama. Friends, food, snow... But as I don't ski, have those pesky little mini humans and zero money, it's likely to be an unfulfilled fantasy!

Duckwit · 06/11/2020 17:19

Yes, I totally know what you mean! Huge tree, snowing outside, opening beautifully wrapped expensive gifts in front of an open fire whilst sipping on champagne, then a delicious Christmas Dinner cooked by someone else with no washing up or anything, piano playing carols in the background. Lovely!

TheRuleofStix · 06/11/2020 17:21

I would love to go away for Christmas with friends - there’s so much bloody pressure to always spend it with parents and it does my head in. I’ll never do this to my DC - if they want to go away then dh and me would also go away. No guilt!

CottonHeadedNinnyMug · 06/11/2020 18:34

The snowy cabin Christmas does it for me too - hoping that will happen at least once in my lifetime! I do like to wrap things beautifully though, whatever bargains are inside! (Still dreaming about my stocking though) Blush

I’ve always said that for the first Christmas after we win the lottery, we’re hiring the perfect Hallmark movie home somewhere just outside a perfect little US town in the mountains. I’ll hire a set designer to dress it perfectly and have the amazing presents wrapped and sorted under a huge tree. The town will have cutesy little shops and a Christmas parade and bake sales like in the cheesy films. We’d ride on a horse drawn cart to look at the lights while drinking hot chocolate before carols in the town square.

On Christmas Day the chef will cook the perfect dinner and someone else will wash up and tidy.

Well one can dream...

I'm not fussed about designer stuff but, if I was going to spend a stupid amount on Christmas, it'd be for a big glam ski lodge Christmas like in the video for George Michael's 'Last Christmas' (except without the heartbreak, obviously).

CoolShoeshine · 07/11/2020 04:31

I’m going to drink champagne (actually cava Grin) out of champagne saucers this year. I’ll have to buy some first but it will be a nod to a glamorous aspirational Christmas

birkenstocks4ever · 07/11/2020 06:50

No! I love the chaotic, mismatching, loud mess of it all Grin

Twilightstarbright · 07/11/2020 06:57

@SirSamuelVimes me too!

There's a fancy hotel near me that always does a lovely designery Christmas like PP has described, but somehow relaxed and not stuffy and an amazing Father Christmas visiting.

Lindy2 · 07/11/2020 07:04

I'd love to be in a snowy cottage in the countryside.

I love Christmas at home but when I look outside and see other houses and traffic it doesn't feel very Christmassy. A snow covered woodland would be perfect.

We (normally 😭) have friends and neighbours round the piano for carols and prosecco, a big real tree with presents wrapped in brown paper and ribbons. Not exactly glamorous but because we live in victorian cottage it feels very wholesome and old fashioned!

PersonaNonGarter · 07/11/2020 07:22

I definitely would like a luxury Christmas a la Sunday supplements. The entire house decorated and staffed to perfection.

Everyone will wear some form of velvet. Our stocking fillers would be things like ‘Smythson Diary - £120’ and ‘Daylesford Organic Truffle Oil - £45’ etc.

DH and I will swap thoughtful gifts from Cartier, the DCs will be over the moon with their new treehouse, and our extended relatives will appreciate the ‘Paul Smith Umbrella - £300’ type gifts.

Very lovely champagne all day will keep things jolly, and of course the staff can take care of the washing up.

Got to admit, that sounds marvelous. Loving the mandatory velvet!

Enjoying this thread! Smile
My normal life is very much not like this, think charity shop furnishings and homemade gifts. I am not sure if I'd like it in reality, but the fantasy is gorgeous!

thelegohooverer · 07/11/2020 07:55

There’s a piano in my Christmas fantasy and I can play and sing in tune and we effortlessly sing harmonies spontaneously. In real life I’d hate that but it works in my fantasies. There’s a crackling log fire, a pair of sleeping labradors (I’m not a dog person and definitely not up for walking them or scooping poop) and I can see the faint glimmer of Christmas tree lights reflected in the sheen of the piano (no grubby finger prints). DH’s gift to me is a small box containing a beautiful, tasteful diamond bracelet.

I have another very sweet fantasy of dropping dh and the dc to mil’s and speeding away but that’s for another thread Grin

Can I recommend Niagara-on-the-Lake? Not mountains but very cutesy and there'll definitely be snow!
