Do you ever dream of a beautiful, luxury designer Christmas?

Inspired by the Lockdown dreaming stocking thread, do any of you ever wish for the sort of beautiful designer packaging all stacked up round the tree- lots of beautiful packages, each with a beautiful thing in?

I have lovely Christmas experiences - I am lucky, I am loved and have a family to swap presents with- I'm not generally materialistic but I sometimes have a dream of a hotel bar- Christmas piano music playing and exchanging amazing designer gifts in beautifully professionally wrapped packages. Anyone else?

I always get envious of the "getting the guestroom ready" articles. No one ever comes to stay for Christmas Angry

I want to move into The White Company or Cox and Cox's Christmas catalogues for the duration. Lots of tastefully wrapped presents, snow on the ground, everyone wearing complementary neutral colours (no evidence of chocolate on the kids' white sparkly dresses).

In real life, my Christmases growing up were a bit of a Victorian fantasy. Big open fire, carols around the grand piano, four courses plus cheese for lunch (in the dining room), followed by charades. If I can get anywhere near that for my kids I'll be happy enough!

Yes but in this perfect christmassy world, people are constantly popping in for drinks, canapes and some witty repartee...hence why you always have some home made crostini and puff pastry shit ready to pop in the aga.

And yes a guestroom where you have chosen a subtle yet welcoming theme and coordinated the towels with the handsoap in the en suite.

Mine is a beautiful house on the edge of York town centre .
I'll waft along to Bettys and buy mince pies and cake (without queuing up)

A set of crockery , cutlery and glassware that I admire in John Lewis and add up how much a complete set would be ( price of a small car)

And snow of course .

I am fine with cooking , as long as there's a well stocked kitchen and a dishwasher ( 2 dishwashers in my fantasy kitchen)

I don;t drink so no champagne .

And I'd wake to a beautifully cold day under my snuggly Christmas bedding then waft to the ensuite for a long shower .

I just like a table big enough for it to be ‘dressed’! I see the table decorations and shut the magazine - barely have space on the table for the gravy boat let alone wreaths, foliage, candles and bloody charger plates (which just look like more washing up to me Grin ).
We usually squeeze 20 round our table which is big enough for 16 when extended - elbows are firmly tucked in at all times!
Other than that, I love our christmases at home and really wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in all honesty.
I do elaborate gift wrapping or if they come from a fancy shop will ask them to gift wrap and leave in the nice bag under the tree.
For a few minutes it looks beautiful and just like how I always wanted Christmas to be when I was little, bows, boxes, ribbons etc.
And then we start ripping in and it becomes ten times better. The bin bags come out, presents are being lobbed about, everyone is sat with a glass of something, while dh is cooking Grin

Oh yes. I think my guests would like that too, mostly they're lucky if I've moved the charity shop pile off the spare bed...

I like a coordinated present pile. Everyone else ruins it by bringing my family gifts that don't coordinate. How very dare they!

Nah, I love a mismatched homespun Christmas! I’ve just ordered myself a tunnocks tea cake bauble and it wouldn’t look right on a posh co-ordinating tree xD

greenlynx · 07/11/2020 22:41

I would love white Christmas somewhere in a luxury log cabin surrounded by tall pine trees with open fire in the living room .....but with central heating, at least 2 bathrooms and good mobile signal. I will do cooking myself, it’s ok.
And I will supply a list for my presents.

HintOfVintagePink · 08/11/2020 07:23

I do dream of it in the same way I dream of a pristine home and an empty laundry basket, but with 2 DCs I have to be realistic!

DH and I try for luxury ‘moments’ instead. Things like a scallop supper and a glass of champagne together when the children are in bed on Christmas Eve, a beautifully served coffee with linen napkins and a side chocolate just because, some cashmere socks or something lovely to wear. Just little things that don’t need a huge production but we both appreciate.

kitschplease · 08/11/2020 07:48

What's with all the present throwing on this thread?! Made me chuckle.

I would love all of the above, but it's not going to happen, so will console myself with looking for the tunnocks teacake bauble - need!

Sod it. I appear to have mislaid the Aga.

UndertheCedartree · 08/11/2020 22:11

Not particularly. Luxury things aren't really on my radar so not sure what I'd like tbh!

Last year I got my DD a designa friend doll and some clothes (they come in boxes to mimic luxury clothes boxes) and I piled them up with a ribbon round them which looked quite sweet!

I normally am quite stressed with sorting Christmas and don't bother much over the wrapping. However this year I have a lot more time and mental head space. I've actually ordered some nice wrapping, tag and ribbon sets and am planning on trying to make the wrapping look really nice.

I have had Christmas a few years ago in a posh hotel. It was lovely and I wouldn't mind doing it again. But I have to say my favourite Christmases are still just us at home - relaxed and easy. I may prefer something different when the DC are grown - but for now I love it!

NullcovoidNovember · 08/11/2020 22:58

Lovley idea for when dc older!
Around a piano, cocktail dresses... Snow falling outside...

VestaTilley · 11/11/2020 21:46

Haha, no, sorry OP.

I love my 80s tinsel and coloured fairy lights Christmas.

Stonecrop · 11/11/2020 21:58

Yes like at the end of ‘the holiday’. But no, a glamorous Christmas looking pulled together, around a piano without any clutter is not going to happen for me this year.

Pipandmum · 11/11/2020 22:01

No, because I like doing it myself. I've been away at a five star hotel one Christmas (in an island resort) and never again.

Fromthebirdsnest · 11/11/2020 22:08

This was our adult Christmas's pre children I wouldn't go back , I like being at home for Christmas with our children and family cooking dinner drinking champagne and eating lovely food... However I do wrap my presents all in co coordinating paper with beautiful bows (except the father Xmas presents that are in candy stripe with a red or green bow ) and my husband always gets me something really lovely .. X

Thewinterofdiscontent · 11/11/2020 22:45

The luxury house is nice. We visit our parents every year so we make sure we book somewhere much better than the house we currently live in! It’s lovely to decamp with all the presents and food organised and ready to go and just settle in to a fabulous place for a week to eat drink and be merry.

However luxury presents are a bit of a bore. DH like to buy luxury gifts and wrap them perfectly in high end paper. I usually end up feeling less than grateful that he’s spent loads of money and it’s usually not exactly right. I mean it’s obviously pretty good, but for the money he’s spending I always think I should chose exactly the one I want.

Whereas my mum usually gets it spot on with a random second selection of gifts, wrapped in last years favourite paper with beautiful ribbon ( also saved ) and a bit of a broken fashion brooch or Christmas tree decoration to finish it. Hers look stunning and you can feel the effort and love she’s put in. So much more Christmasy.
