How much chocolate/sweets/biscuits etc do you buy for Christmas for your household? There's 5 of us.
Do you go overboard?

I have loads of goodies stashed away that's probably gonna get added too even more.

This includes so far:
Stollen
Florentine's
After eights
Selection box of Fox's biscuits
Danish cookies
Chocolate fingers
X2 tubs of chocolates
Chocolate orange.

This will be added too I'm sure.

I don’t buy much at all as we get gifted too much. I would prefer one nice box of chocolates (hotel chocolate) and maybe a box of Turkish delight rather than lots of other stuff. I did buy a bag of mini orange dime bars from IKEA the other day.

Iamblossom · 05/11/2020 15:21

I buy a quality street tub about once a week in December. Kids get choc money, choc FC, Haribo, choc sprouts in their stockings. Usually buy a panettone just cos.....that's about it really....

VestaTilley · 05/11/2020 15:38

Chocolate gingers, Turkish delight, Marron glacé, Roses, Quality Street, Terry’s chocolate orange (not for me as I’m coeliac), then Fox’s or Victoria biscuits (again, not for me). I make mince pies and Christmas cake and Christmas pud. I fancy a box of posh chocolates such as Charbonnel- but none of them seem to be gluten free!

VestaTilley · 05/11/2020 15:39

Oh, and chocolate coins for the stockings and last year I made sugar mice and chocolate mice; will do that again.

PersonaNonGarter · 05/11/2020 15:41

There is NO LIMIT. Until 1st of January when we will repent.

Tonnes of chocs and biscuit boxes will be bought and consumed and given. The stockings are full of chocs as well. Plus all the crisps and nuts. It’s revolting really.

sugarplumfairy2010 · 05/11/2020 15:47

I like to eat my body weight in yule logs during December but they aren't instock yet. So far I've bought 2.5kg of celebrations, 3 boxes of matchsticks, 2 Toblerones, 5 chocolate oranges, 5 bags of chocolate coins, 1 kg lindt balls, 3 tubes of smarties, bags of Brussels sprout chocolate, 1kg bag of m&ms, Christmas cake bars and mine pies as well as crisps and nuts. Will buy a few more bits in the next few weeks.

Didntgetmydiamondring · 05/11/2020 18:54

DC -selection box, gold coins in the stockings & choc orange
Couple of boxes of mince pies
Biscuits for cheese
Nhs & I only get 2 days off.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/11/2020 19:42

I cut right back the last few years as we ended up with lots over due to gifts but have bought more this year as expecting far less gifts this year as people cut back or don’t meet up.

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2020 19:43

I buy a tin of quality street but the rest is normally things we make - biscuits, gingerbread, etc.

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2020 19:44

Oh except they have huge amounts of sweet treats in their stockings!

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 05/11/2020 19:58

I make sure we have a box of Bendicks Bittermints for after dinner, but otherwise no chocs as so much gets given as gifts. Lindt Santas and reindeer for Dc stocking, and that’s it.

Otherwise a pannetone for breakfast, make mince pies for Christmas eve and Boxing Day.

No general ‘just for the sake of it’ chocolate buying. Everything I buy had its time and place on a menu. Then we share choc gifts.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 05/11/2020 20:01

Sugarplumfairy (well named Grin ) what do you do with all that lot? Have it out for people to pick at?

SantasYumnuts · 05/11/2020 20:06

This thread is fantastic, it’s reminding me of all the delicious chocolatey treats I should buy.

Scanner20 · 05/11/2020 20:28

Kids get chocolate and some sweets in stockings.
Couple of tubs of chocolates
After eights
Mint selection
Choc orange
A couple of new chocolate boxes
Kinder Bon Bon
Biscuit selection
Shortbread tin
Mince pies
Yule log

sugarplumfairy2010 · 05/11/2020 20:33

@RainingBatsAndFrogs yes it will all be put in the treat cupboard in the week or two before christmas. The chocolate coins will go in the kids wooden calendar though. Ive a baby and a toddler who doesn't sleep so I'm fuelled by chocolate these days.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/11/2020 21:37

We will have a few yule logs and nice Christmas deserts.

For chocolate ds(16) usually gets a big jar of giant chocolate buttons (and some packs to refill it) and a lindt santa. I get some lindt lindor. Dh isn't into chocolate really but gets nice shortbread.

We tend to buy slightly better quality over quantity now. The days of the traditional tins/tubs of roses/quality street or chocolate oranges are gone as they all taste terrible now.

UndertheCedartree · 05/11/2020 21:44

We usually get/make:
Shortbread
Stollen
Lebkuchen
Mince pies
Christmas cake
Getting a Colin the caterpillar yule log this year!
Tin of chocolates
The DC make gingerbread houses on Christmas Eve

UndertheCedartree · 05/11/2020 21:46

The DC also get:
Selection box
Chocolate orange
Chocolate coins
Lindt reindeer
Candy canes/lollipops/jelly beans

toiletpaper · 05/11/2020 21:47

Bought a tub each of roses and heroes today, will also be getting guylian as they are my favourite chocolate ever. Oh and I'm another who eats my body weight in yule log come Christmas Grin it's just me and the kids so don't need to buy a whole lot

BurbageBrook · 05/11/2020 21:53

I really admire all you people who can buy chocolate and treats now and hide them away. If I did that in November, they would absolutely be demolished by December 1st.

BurbageBrook · 05/11/2020 21:53

But having said that I will bake and buy lots for actual Xmas! I just don't have the willpower to have sweet treats in the house.

RickOShay · 05/11/2020 21:55

@VestaTilley
Please could you share your mouse recipe please Smile?

TheCrow · 05/11/2020 22:02

DD has chocolate coins and small sweets in the advent calendar, chocolate orange in the stocking, unicorn snacks hamper which has a lot in but will last quite a long time.

I'll buy Florentines and macarons for me and I've got a tin of m&s Belgian choc biscuits on my present list from family. I try not to buy too many boxes of chocs as we usually get some as presents.

goose1964 · 05/11/2020 22:58

I usually make stollen, last year I got molten marzipan from my enormous stollen on my hand. I'm wary of it this year.

Otherwise we have posh chocs, choc mints. Yesterday I bought some Cadbury jingle balls, one praline and the other one is hazelnut. DH has also bought a tub of celebrations. This will easily do the 3of us plus whoever is allowed to visit us

Franticbutterfly · 05/11/2020 23:11

I usually go overboard, but I got a message today (calendar alert) from my former (2019) self telling me not to buy too many boxes of celebrations etc because we like fancier chocolates...Guylian it is then 😂 🥂
