Present ideas for newborn

DS2 is due in 3 weeks so will be around a month old at Xmas. I've bought what I need for when he arrives but stuck on what to get him for Xmas.

I need to get him something or DS1 will wonder why he has presents and the baby doesn't but he doesn't need anything.

What did you get your newborn for Xmas?

Last Christmas DS was less than 2 weeks old. We went practical and brought stuff that would be useful in 5-6 months. He was also brought a lovely personalised sack (full of nappies), a wooden nativity set (again for the future) and a beautiful first Christmas fleecy blanket (which was used for some adorable pictures).

Ps congrats in advance winter babies are fab. Smile

Also, can you wrap some of the stuff you’ve already bought (if DS hasn’t seen the stuff)

Snipples · 04/11/2020 19:13

Our youngest DD is having her first Christmas this year and we've got her a light projector for the ceiling for bedtime, some sensory toys and balls, a nice big floor mat and some lovely bamboo plates and bowls for weaning.

I also like to buy a special Christmas book so we've bought her a beautiful boxed collectors edition of the grinch who stole Christmas (and we will hand write a little message for her inside). Eldest DD got a beautiful copy of the snowman for her first Christmas.

Congratulations!

I was in the same situation. You get socks with bells on them and little wrist cuff rattles.

GlowingOrb · 04/11/2020 19:16

You can also just wrap up some necessities. Next size of clothing, some nappies, lotion.

PlantDoctor · 04/11/2020 19:17

We pretty much wrapped stuff we bought her anyway, such as fabric book, nice outfits, pram toys. If you're thinking bigger, do you have something like a bouncer chair or a play mat?

Thanks everyone, this has given me some good ideas Smile

I rewrapped all DC1's 'baby's first Christmas' things (bibs, socks, bauble etc) for DC2's stocking.

Weaning stuff, high chair toy, books.

MrsSpringfield · 05/11/2020 10:41

My baby's first xmas too. I may get a couple of toys but won't be getting much.
I have bought some clothes for the year ahead already (bought in end of season sales when I've spotted them) so I'll wrap those up and some of DC1's old baby toys. I am trying to save money and not go OTT this year, our house is full of toys as is.

DC1 will be too busy unwrapping pressies to notice.

Door bouncer or jumperoo, pram toys, teething toys, anything you'll need before their next birthday!

DD was a week old last Christmas, so wrapped up:
A Christmassy outfit
Some books including "Charlotte's web" (she's called Charlotte) and "the night before Christmas"
A personalised bauble for the tree
A Jellycat Elf

My DD is only 8 days old currently:) she will be around 2 months at Christmas. I have another DD who is 4 so I'm doing the same and I've got some bits. I got her a Christmas eve box just like my eldest, but she only has some socks, Christmas sleepsuit, 2 baby books from pound land and a small rattle that was my first daughters. We do stockings from father Christmas, so I brought her a mirror for tummy time, a small rattle which is more of a keepsake, a teether and the next size up in dummies. My daughter went out and chose her and outfit for 3-6 months and a little teether that you put in the fridge and I will wrap up a dress and toy that we have for her and say it's from the baby :) I also kept my DDs baby toys, so me and her cleaned them up recently and she will help me wrap them. She is ok with sharing but she needs to accept that it's not all for her anymore, us sorting through her old toys together really helped her understand and let go a bit as she is a bit attached to her toys. So I didnt end up spending much but she has a bit as is mostly old toys that will be too old for her but she will use throughout the year. :)

DS was just short of 2 months old for his first Christmas. I got him a wooden activity gym, white noise toy, a couple of wooden toys (more for the future but he did grow up to play with them so it wasn’t a waste), a couple of crochet rattles from Pebble Child and some clothes.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2020 11:27

Stuff he can use from about 3 or 4 months old.

Jumperoo
Weaning things
Toys for 3m+

Stuff he can use straight away

Cosy hat
Toy archway thing
Glowy light type toys
Books with high contrast pictures
Decoration for nursery
Christmas pattern baby bottle /dummy if he uses them
Soft crinkly toys
Clothes

Stuff to keep for later

Nice story books
Keepsake photo frame "my first Christmas"

mam0918 · 05/11/2020 13:19

my DS was 2 months at his first xmas and we got a lottie ladybird mat which was used for a while (it was soft to lie on for floor time and lit up and played music) and a spin gym (barely used, he really didnt like it) as the bigger sized gifts

then loads of teddies/teathers/rattles/board books (the little development toys that kids need over their first year etc...)
