@Mokusspokus

What is the difference between banangrams and scrabble. Please.

Not played the banana one but I think it's pretty much the same as scrabble but no board so it's portable?

HasaDigaEebowai · 04/11/2020 08:59

ticket to ride
pandemic (!!)
risk (we have the lord of the rings version)
monopoly
banagrams
chess
backgammon

These have been the favourites for years now

SingingSands · 04/11/2020 09:11

Stratego
Cobra Paw
Scotland Yard
Labyrinth
Wordsearch
Abalone
Monopoly
RummiKub

Those are the most played in our house. DH will play exploding kittens with the kids, but I just don't get along with card games!

There's no scoring in bananagrams, you just keep drawing letters to make words, the winner is the person with no letters left when all the pool letters are gone. It's fast-paced because you don't take turns. And if you want to rearrange your words you can (at least, we do, not sure if that's in the rules). Oh and there's no board.
Isadora2007 · 04/11/2020 09:22

Bananagrams is fun- but challenging if you don’t like speed. Each person had their own grid made of their own words so I guess you could be lenient for a younger child’s spelling etc...
labrynth is fab and one I’d always recommend. That and UNO are the only games mine love to return to. Oh and an old vintage game called Sorry!

@InTheFamilyTree

Can a bright 3.5 year old play dobble, or the junior version?
Doubt it!

What words can he read?

soloula · 04/11/2020 09:54

Exploding kittens, dobble, uno, frustration

Dobble doesn't have words. Mine have been playing it since they were about 2.

piscis · 04/11/2020 09:58

I have just checked Labyrinth in Amazon but there are different games (at least the boxes are different!) With that name, some don't seem like the same thing at all.
What Labyrinth game are you referring to? Would anyone mind to send a link? Interested in board games!!

Jroseforever · 04/11/2020 09:58

Oh of course dobble!!! Yes perfect for 3.5

Sorry I got mixed up with Boggle!!

uniqlo · 04/11/2020 10:01

Labyrinth
Articulate (kids version)
Blokus
Dobble
Monopoly
Ticket to ride (junior version)

BikeRunSki · 04/11/2020 10:59

TheTempest · 04/11/2020 11:01

Payday in my house, children of all ages and adults seem to love it. I’m bored shitless of it, mind Grin

ZombiePara · 04/11/2020 11:03

Frustration!

Over and over again..

moirarosebabay · 04/11/2020 11:04

Star Wars guess who.

kathryn19801 · 04/11/2020 11:05

They absolutely love Dobble. Junior Monopoly is popular and they have asked for Game of Life for Christmas. They are 7 and 9.

LaBelleEpoque · 04/11/2020 11:06

We love Labyrinth, Ticket to Ride, Rummikub, scrabble and lots of card games. I don't love exploding kittens but played goat lords recently which was great. Cockroach Poker is a simple, fun bluffing card game that we play a lot too and is great for all ages as rules are simple.

unmarkedbythat · 04/11/2020 11:08

Ludo. I don't know why. They are currently obsessed with it.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 04/11/2020 11:08

@Caillou

My dd just turned 9, likes scrabble, triominos, rummikub, cluedo and monopoly.
All top options here too!

Also 'Risk' but only if your child isn't clumsy, otherwise it's a nightmare!!

pinkksugarmouse · 04/11/2020 13:12

I highly recommend Labyrinth by
Ravensburger it's age 7 and up and at 17 it's still a big favourite with DD and the whole family.
I have also bought it as a gift in the past.

MrJinxyCat · 04/11/2020 13:33

9 year old here.
He loves uno, bananagrams, Qwixx and one night werewolf but really need a group for that one.

oobedobe · 04/11/2020 18:05

My 8 yo, has been getting into games a lot more, it's a great age for it. Along with the usual (monopoly etc) She enjoys:
Dragonwood
Forbidden Island (coop)
Santorini (best as 2 player)
Sequence (fun in teams)
King of Tokyo
Blokus

For Christmas we are getting, Quixx and Camel Up :)

StillGardening · 04/11/2020 18:08

Carcassonne is brilliant - really good and can get more tactical as they get older, but is dead simple.

Also othello

frozendaisy · 04/11/2020 18:10

Qwirkle

WineGummyBear · 04/11/2020 19:48

King of Tokyo. Highly recommend for 8/9/10 years
