I'd like to avoid giving DS hot chocolate all the time in December, but struggling to think of alternatives except hot apple juice. Ideally not too sugary!

Warm squash ( I particularly like Ribena And lemon) or warm milk goes down well here

Standrewsschool · 12/10/2020 08:19

Warm black current.

Tea ? Coffee?

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 12/10/2020 08:24

Milk with nutmeg and cinnamon or frothy milk with sugar free coffee syrups

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 12/10/2020 08:26

Chai latte or 'lattes' made with gingerbread or pumpkin spice syrup and no coffee?

AdaColeman · 12/10/2020 08:30

Have a look at Pukka teas, they do a wide range of herbs and fruit teas, sure to be something your DS would enjoy, they don’t contain sugar.

Thehollyandtheirony · 12/10/2020 09:06

Milk and honey

Twilightstarbright · 12/10/2020 09:23

I should have said DS is 3!

Why does he need hot drinks?

Imsayingnothing · 12/10/2020 09:52

Ovaltine instead of hot chocolate.

Changedmynameagain1 · 12/10/2020 09:54

Make your own hot chocolate with warm milk rather than powder.

You can then limit how much chocolate goes in there, ie melt a couple of chocolate buttons. Otherwise you add honey to warm milk, nutmeg , cinnamon etc

moglovesquotes · 12/10/2020 09:55

Hot vimto!

Mustbethewine · 12/10/2020 10:35

Warm milk with honey was a favourite for us as kids before bed time

wheresmymojo · 12/10/2020 10:56

No idea of sugar levels but:

  • Horlicks
  • Ovaltine
  • Hot vimto
  • Hot ribena
  • Hot apple juice
  • Warm milk with or without cinnamon

Not sure a 3 year old needs a hot drink TBH but those are my recommendations...

movingonup20 · 12/10/2020 11:01

Ribena can be mulled as can apple juice, chai tea is quite festive

Twilightstarbright · 12/10/2020 11:25

@wheresmymojo he likes hot chocolate, obviously slightly warm rather than hot!

Thank you for the other ideas.

I’d just go for warm milk then.

Pepperwand · 12/10/2020 13:38

We just do warm milk, occasionally with cinnamon and if I can be bothered I froth it for him.

Otherwise he likes having a "cup of tea" with me (50/50 hot water to milk and the teabag dunked for about three seconds so it barely colours the milk.)

TheCrow · 12/10/2020 14:03

Yorkshire tea have brought out a biscuit flavoured version which is nice, make it like normal tea

CloudyVanilla · 12/10/2020 14:05

Warm winter spice Ribena for the little ones! It's mini mulled wine :) great for when you're pregnant too - you can even add extra mulled seasoning to it and a slice of orange and cinnamon stick

CloudyVanilla · 12/10/2020 14:07

Oh in the same vein, I don't know if they're doing it this year but M and S did a lovely winter juice drink and it was all sparkly!

micc · 12/10/2020 20:37

Agree with PP, warm Ribena all the way!

AnnaMagnani · 12/10/2020 20:40

Why does he need a hot drink and why all December?

Firevixen · 12/10/2020 20:50

The chocolate ovaltine is a good alternative as they add lots of vitamins and things to it. There are 2 versions, one you add milk and the other just hot water.

PracticingPerson · 12/10/2020 20:52

Don't understand why not hot chocolate? As it is the best hot drink Grin

But warm milk was given in our house.

BitGutted · 12/10/2020 21:07

Lidl sells a non alcoholic mulled punch looks nice
