So normally for our siblings we give them their favourite drink, and a gift card for a nice meal out and/or cinema trip etc... Obviously this year the meal and cinema trip could be a hit or a miss depending on covid so we were thinking of making up hamper boxes containing:
a drink each (alcohol or hot chocolate for the non drinkers)
pringles,
Their favoured chocolate/sweet
Popcorn,
mints,
Silly token christmas item (think Christmas hat, mask etc)
and a voucher for just eat...

Sort of a "night in box" kinda thing.

Does this sound completely and utterly naff?

We are on a tighter budget this year too so unfortunately the gift card won't amount to the same as the cinema/dinner cards we've given in thr past.

Nope it is a lovely idea!

Floralnomad · 06/10/2020 00:29

Honestly I’d rather just have a quality box of dessert chocolates than a hamper like you’ve described but you know your siblings .

OnNaturesCourse · 06/10/2020 00:33

Our siblings are all under 24 so they like "basic" things like Netflix and hungover takeaways lol. Not sure they'd appreciate fancy chocolates or a nice bottle of wine... I'd love it if they did, be much easier haha

I think it sounds lovely like a care package. It’s more thoughtful than perfume or a bottle of wine type gift.

MrsEricBana · 06/10/2020 00:35

Not naff at all, I'd be delighted to receive that!

Catsup · 06/10/2020 00:48

Are you doing an actual hamper/basket, or a box? I've done hamper baskets before and the actual baskets, cellophane wrap, ribbon, and straw packaging worked out far more pricey than I'd initially imagined. If I did it again I think I'd either buy Xmas boxes, fancy wrap shoe boxes, or do a minimalist style with a plain cardboard box, twine and parcel labels. The hampers went down really well as each one was tailored to a theme such as a hot and spicy one for the chilli fan, beauty based one, sweet treat fan.

Bellagio40 · 06/10/2020 01:08

Sounds brilliant

CampfireZen · 06/10/2020 01:10

"...plain cardboard box, twine and parcel labels..."

That.
(Totally 'on trend' re wrapping anyway, eco-friendly/ easy to recycle etc. etc).
I'd love to receive a themed box! Not naff at all.

OnNaturesCourse · 06/10/2020 01:21

I'm thinking plain boxes with nice ribbon and a wee decoration with the name tag (my little girl makes decorations each year and we usually use them as tags/parcel decor)

I love the natural/tarten/tradition decor and wrapping.

I did look at actual hampers but I like the idea of the gift being unseen and wrapped sort of thing

Sounds nice.

On the bargain Xmas ideas threads someone suggested personalised metal straws which came in at £1/£1.50 each and £1 for a brush to clean them. If they’re young and eco conscious it could be a nice thing to add as a cheap but useful extra that looked more expensive than it was plus you can either just put a straightforward ‘boring/real’ name on them or go for joke ones or silly ones if it would be appropriate.

DramaAlpaca · 06/10/2020 01:57

That is such a clever idea I might just steal it. Thank you, OP!

Alongcameacat · 06/10/2020 08:48

Be careful with the metal straws and teeth!!!!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 06/10/2020 09:12

I like it as you know it’s things they like. I might be a bit picky on the novelty item and swap it for something that would be used - ie Christmas design latte mug etc.

The only hamper I’ve had was full of chutney etc and many things I don’t eat, would have much preferred one that was full of nice things I did actually like.

Suzysleep · 06/10/2020 09:18

I'd love this, it's a great idea.

OnNaturesCourse · 06/10/2020 10:07

Thanks all 😊

The novelty item is in place of a cracker we'd usually pull and laugh over at the table as I'm doubtful that will even happen this year.

Metal straws are a good idea for a few of them too, I was also thinking a bottle opener (small, maybe a fridge one) for those with alcohol in their hamper.

Sounds lovely.

FilthyforFirth · 06/10/2020 17:13

I think it sounds lovely. All 3 of mine would love this I think.

EvilHerbivore · 06/10/2020 17:16

I'd love this too!

MillieEpple · 06/10/2020 17:16

sounds great. A just-eat voucher for a night in is such a good idea.

LadyCatStark · 06/10/2020 17:21

I think it sounds lovely and extremely generous! For me, I’d lose the novelty item, but you know your family best.

tiredbuthappytoday · 06/10/2020 17:21

I would rather just one nice thing or the voucher personally but you know your siblings best. I would say as a non drinker that something like a small bottle of posh tonic water / Nosecco would be more of a treat than hot chocolate, but again you obviously know what they like more than me!

HumphreyGoodmanswife · 06/10/2020 20:38

Sounds a perfect gift, especially for that age group. We stopped doing gifts for siblings long ago but if I'd have been given this for a present I'd have been more inclined to keep it going Blush

MaverickDanger · 06/10/2020 21:21

I think for that age group, it’s perfect.

You can get yourself one and suggest you do a Netflix party where you all watch the same film & have a Zoom call together.

Scott Cinemas were doing a giant movie food package for £20 which would be easy to parcel up into different hampers.

OnNaturesCourse · 08/10/2020 10:33

Thanks all.

I've started work on the hampers, made the boxes and decorated them, plus got them half full. Fingers crossed they go down well.

I love the idea of a home made hamper with things I’d enjoy
