I'm looking for help with fortnum and mason please. If I were to give you a hamper from fortnum and mason with 5 things in it what would you be hoping for?
I'm not familiar with their products but know the brand.
Anyone have any recommendations please?
Any particular biscuits, crackers, chutney or jams?
Thanks

I like the:

  • champagne strawberry jam
  • mulled wine spices
  • a pretty tin of yummy biscuits
  • dark chocolate covered orange peel
  • one of the gorgeous tins of English Breakfast tea bags
JinglesWish · 29/09/2020 20:54

Also I love their Christmas puddings in the pretty aqua colour ceramic bowl, so one of those and a bottle of bubbles would be better than the above

katy1213 · 29/09/2020 21:09

Their chocolates are lovely. I was in there last week and they had a display of rose petal jelly that looked very tempting. And gorgeous looking crystallised fruits; the candied chilli peppers look amazing and the girl on the counter said they are good with cheese. And lime slices, they looked divine!
Would you like somebody to make a trial run for you?

For Christmas every year I used to buy "little" things for everyone from F&M. My dad was an absolute curmudgeon - hated Christmas. But there was 1 grandchild and so it went ahead! He actually loved the selection of little jars of jams/marmalade - about 6 in a pack. They are tiny - be warned. He enjoyed the product and then found the jars so useful for screws, nails etc. Although beyond ridiculous for price per 100g I never resented the cost of that present. I would buy packs of tea bags or biscuits, and sometimes Christmas ornaments. I had worked nearby as a young worker and it brought back very happy memories. Try to get there - the shop window displays are amazing at Christmas.

During the depths of lockdown I sent a relative the pink champagne and truffles, for a big birthday. She was on her own and she was delighted to receive it. Not sure if she drank the bubbles all on her own, but hey! The truffles would make a very welcome gift I'd have thought. Also the tea mentioned above and the jam. Lovely idea. Real treats are the way to go this year I reckon.

The toffeelossuss biscuits are gorgeous.

orangenasturtium · 29/09/2020 23:45

Can I have 5 boxes of violet and rose creams, please? Grin

I also quite like the rose and violet biscuits but the Toffolosssus or salted caramel ones are possibly a safer bet.

Any of their cheese straws.

The petit fours and the Christmas/seasonal iced biscuits are beautiful.

If you don't know the person's taste, it is probably best to pick one thing that is beautiful to look at (like the iced biscuits), one thing to drink (alcohol or tea, if they don't drink), then anything that is available in selection boxes or has lovely reusable packaging (tins etc).

Picalilli, truffle mayonnaise, and chocolate orange peel would be on my food hamper from hell list. But then I love floral creams and marzipan... At least the selection boxes of chocolates, biscuits, jams, teas etc are fun to try, probably have something they will like, or are great for entertaining or regifting. Grin If it comes in a pretty tin, I always have a use for storage Grin

One of their musical biscuit tins and a jar of lemon curd

Upupupwithafish · 29/09/2020 23:50

Don’t get the cinnamon and orange shortbread, I was so looking forward to it...they went in the bin! I loved the hamper and everything else looks lovely.

LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy · 30/09/2020 09:31

I’ve just bought their rose and violet filled chocolate bar as a special birthday treat for myself! I’m the only one in the household who enjoys eating such things Wink

Snugglepumpkin · 30/09/2020 11:13

My sister loves the cinnamon dusted milk chocolate almonds.
I don't like them at all.
I love the rose & violet creams (or the assorted creams which include a couple of the rose & violet ones in the box)
The strawberry champagne jam is nice but I think the sparkling strawberry jam looks far prettier as a gift.

I am in love with the look of their preserves

Christmas pudding preserve
Orange curd
Cinnamon and apple curd
Tangerine and cardamom marmalade

But I've never tried any of them! I'm tempted by candied chilli peppers now though...

tentative3 · 30/09/2020 11:17

.... but I can't find them online Shock do I need to go in person?

Whitney168 · 30/09/2020 11:18

Florentines, all the way (preferably in a lovely turquoise F&M tin, but I appreciate that I am a fool for packaging).

katy1213 · 30/09/2020 11:23

You might need to go in person for candied fruit; they're sold by weight. I thought I might try to make some. How hard can it be??? (Takes three weeks in the south of France said the salesgirl!)
It's a great time to shop there - no tourists!

Whitney168 · 30/09/2020 11:23

(Now planning my Christmas order ... hmmmm salted hazelnut shortbread, chocolate orange biscuits, rose & violet creams so far. Oh, and salted caramel florentines, obvs, or perhaps the gigantissimi ones.)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/09/2020 12:36

I order from F&M every year - I'd rather give people something they can eat than things that they might not like and could end up either cluttering up their houses, or sent to the charity shop.

I think that, like most people, I have some relatives and friends who I like to send a little present, but I can't spend too much - and I always felt like I was sending them something really boring. I decided that a really nice tin of biscuits, in a box from Fortnum and Mason, would feel much nicer, but wouldn't end up cluttering up the house after Christmas - and everyone likes a nice biscuit.

I occasionally send a F&M parcel to people like my mum or my sister - for the same reasons, really - I just spend a bit more.

It also means that I spend half an hour in front of the computer, and deal with a nice chunk of my Christmas present shopping.

ProseccoSupernova · 30/09/2020 12:54

The truffle mayo is 💗💗💗💗💗

SuperSange · 30/09/2020 15:16

Dark chocolate florentines. 😍😍😍

averythinline · 30/09/2020 15:42

The truffles are gorgeous and I don't know if they do macaroon online but they are equally amazing.

If not getting booze I would splash out on loose leaf tea ...they are really good quality....
