Ideas for a Fact loving child

MooseyMoo · 28/09/2020 16:41

My DS loves facts and I’m trying to think of present ideas that he would like.

He is currently watching StoryBots and keeps coming in to tell me different facts ie How many parts are in a car and how hot the sun is.

Any ideas/suggestions?

TIA

How old is he? Mine have enjoyed National Geographic Magazine subscription and Knowledge Encyclopaedia (a visual encyclopaedia) at junior school age. Also some of the top trumps (eg on animals) are full of facts and stocking filler size.

Usborne for Beginners books - there's ones on politics, economics, business, money.

Also the National Geographic books.

TweeBree · 28/09/2020 16:57

Guinness Book of World Records?

Giespeace · 28/09/2020 17:40

What about one of those interactive globes that will tell you facts about different countries and animals?

Quiz based game such as junior cranium
Quiz book
Horrible Histories books

I’d be tempted to do a refillable advent calendar and add in bits of paper with fun facts on them Grin

FlibbertyGiblets · 28/09/2020 17:45

Ripleys believe it or not book.

How old? Bill Bryson brief history of just about everything is most excellent.

We have a board game called 'where in the world'
It's geography based, different levels etc but fiendishly difficult for adults as well.
My kids love it

firstpregnancy1 · 28/09/2020 17:53

I was recently given a little game called shot in the dark. It says age 12+ but depending how old your child is/how many facts they already know then it would easily be suitable. It's a great little trivia game where you answer and whoever is closest wins.. have a look I've loved playing it and I like facts!

This map book is awesome - you might want the deluxe edition (more maps!):

Check out Stephen Biesty cross section books. They have such rich and interesting illustrations that you can pore over them for hours.

My fact-loving child carried this book everywhere for a while after receiving it around age 6-7. It is really good

Also the DK Knowledge Encyclopedia books - we have dinosaurs, space and animals. Dinosaurs is most loved, especially when younger - the pictures are great.

Callybrid · 28/09/2020 21:17

Oh yes, just read pps and second Top Trumps too - we have heaps and they have been played with loads from around age 3 to 8.

HollowTalk · 28/09/2020 21:23

Maps, encyclopedias, non-fiction books, history books for children, science books and the Guinness Book of Records. He could watch quiz shows, Mastermind, that sort of thing, too.

DennisTMenace · 28/09/2020 22:46

National geographic and the science museum do some great activity boxes. Lots of chance to discuss how crystals form, types of animals etc.

CountingToThree · 28/09/2020 22:54

We got my ds a Google home to answer his many fact questions

HollowTalk · 29/09/2020 12:58

@CountingToThree, but that only answers that particular question, whereas a book will lead to other issues around the same topic.

debbiewest0 · 29/09/2020 22:45

Mine loves the national geographic infopedia. Full of facts on all topics but not massive so you can still take it out with you.

ladybee28 · 29/09/2020 22:50

Posted this on another thread recently but it is my absolute go-to for gift inspiration for kids....

The Kid Should See This Gift Guide

It's a spinoff of another site your DS would probably LOVE, here - I get lost on this for ages

OhioOhioOhio · 29/09/2020 22:51

An alexa?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 30/09/2020 06:21

Brainbox. You can get different versions, (we have dinosaurs and UK).
Top trumps.
Family Trivial Pursuits.

stayathomer · 30/09/2020 06:27

Would second top trumps and also add the Osbourne children's picture dictionary

CountFosco · 30/09/2020 06:32

What about a magazine subscription? Whizz, Pop, Bang, Aquila, The Week Junior, First News are all options. The Week Junior is particularly popular with my DC (8 to 12).

turkeyboots · 30/09/2020 07:26

National Geographic do Werid but True books and annuals which are very good.

jocktamsonsbairn · 30/09/2020 14:44

Ladybee23. Thank you - just got some presents off that site and have signed up for the videos for school!

jocktamsonsbairn · 30/09/2020 14:45
