A few suggestions on there were:

Thank you so much to the posters on the bargain thread for these suggestions, they all look lovely!
Please can we have more suggestions :)

Min e loved 'Santa Claus is coming toXXXX'. Different versions based in where you lived... we had Yorkshire.

scrappydappydoo · 16/09/2020 08:05

On angel wings - Michael Morpurgo - beautiful telling of the nativity story

Palavah · 16/09/2020 08:07

The Puffin Book of Christmas Stories - ed S & S Corrin.

WisestIsShe · 16/09/2020 08:10

The Jolly Christmas Postman by the Ahlbergs is really lovely.

PinkDaydreams · 16/09/2020 08:19

I managed to pick up a brand new copy of the jolly Christmas postman a few months back in a charity shop for just 50p! I was delighted!

The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 16/09/2020 08:20

In a spirit of completeness you have to include How the Grinch Stoke Christmas

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 16/09/2020 08:21

STOLE (sodding iPhone)

For older children we love the Matt Haig books- A boy called Christmas etc.
I’d love a recommendation for something similar for this year- 8 year old able reader, loves fantasy, still believes.

PinkDaydreams · 16/09/2020 08:27

I’ve got a couple different versions of Santa is coming to ........ which are both nice. Again one was a bargain in the sale from Clinton’s.
Loving this thread already although my amazon wishlist is now getting longer and longer!!Grin

Mogs Christmas- Judith Kerr
Jingle bells - Nick Butterworth (?)
Morris’s disappearing bag- rosemary wells
The 12 bugs of Xmas pop up book (off amazon but can’t recall name!)
Angel Mae by Shirley Hughes and a few other by her too.
Nativity by Mick Inkpen

For older kids- the christmasosaurus by that guy from pop band- Tom?
The series with A boy called Christmas. The girl who saved Christmas. The truth pixie. All good books but quite a bit of reading if doing chapters.
Michael Morpugo has written a book to go with the traditional The Snowman book. Haven’t read yet but got for this year.
The box of delights... classic novel.

Cherryrainbow · 16/09/2020 09:01

Poirot christmas books :)

ApplesinmyPocket · 16/09/2020 09:05

The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper.

For older children, say 10 +, and part of a longer sequence, but even now my adult DDs and I still sometimes read it in the run-up to Christmas, as it's atmospherically Christmassy and the family have Christmas traditions they carry out on various days leading up to the day.

FrancisCross · 16/09/2020 09:08

Sproutzilla! My kids loved it when they were a bit younger.

InglouriousBasterd · 16/09/2020 09:18

Mog’s Christmas

I love the Father Christmas book by Raymond Briggs - mainly pictures but I adored the details as a child and still do

I’m hoping to read Box of Delights with DD this year (I managed to get the legendary DVD a few years back!)

Trumpton · 16/09/2020 09:18

Jesus’ Christmas Party .
Told from the view point of the grumpy innkeeper who keeps getting woken up by shepherds , kings and angels all looking for the baby .

Here

InglouriousBasterd · 16/09/2020 09:20

Also the Lollipop Shoes by Joanne Harris - it works it’s way up to Christmas Eve and I love reading it in the run up to Christmas. It’s the sequel to Chocolat

russetred · 16/09/2020 09:23

The Story of Holly and Ivy - I read it aloud with my daughter (now 12!) every year, it's one of our little Xmas traditions. Still makes me cry happy tears! And doing the voice of the highly sinister Abracadabra is great fun.

Osquito · 16/09/2020 09:24

I personally find the Noel Streatfeild shoe books put me in a Christmas (and London-at-Christmas!) mood.

And of course: Hogfather

Osquito · 16/09/2020 09:27

Oh, and Jeannette Winterson 12 Days. It’s brilliant, was the first thing of hers I read and I don’t normally go for short stories.

qazxc · 16/09/2020 09:30

DD loves the "Dinosaur that pooped ..." series so I'm getting her "The dinosaur that pooped Christmas". She's just turned 6.

Jfw82 · 16/09/2020 09:30

For older children 'the christmas mystery' by jostein gaarder - there's a chapter for every day though advent and it is lovely

mogtheexcellent · 16/09/2020 09:40

The story of holly and ivy by rumer gordon
Mogs christmas calamity
Harvey Slumfenburger's Christmas Present

But yes Exeter Street is fantabulous and the most requested book in our house. Grin

TweeBree · 16/09/2020 09:44

I've got my eye on this one: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1435169263/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

FrenchieMum2Be · 16/09/2020 09:58

Great thread! The Unpleasant Tale of the Man-eating Christmas Pudding is a favourite in our house, it is a bit gross in places but very funny.
