The men gifts threads are brilliant but I am sure I have over the years bought every single thing mentioned for the men in my life - using these threads as inspiration so I am not knocking them at all. Any less mentioned ideas?

Have a look at the mystery boxes on Firebox.com

I’m not familiar with the threads (going to hunt in a minute as they sound useful!!!) but I’m a fan of just buying a book every year to be honest 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don’t even attempt to deviate now! For DF anyway. I try and be more creative with DH but he has hobbies so it’s a tad easier for him.

I dislike the specifically men and specifically women present ideas, I think it leads to generic crap for both sexes to be honest. If someone has no hobbies or interests that make it easy to buy presents then my default is wine/beer/spirits or food. In normal years I'd have suggested vouchers for meals out or activities but probably not a great idea this year.

Something my OH wants is a keysmart and a ridge wallet :) they are on Amazon. Or maybe a day out?

Zaphodsotherhead · 07/09/2020 11:13

I struggle with everyone! But experience days are popular (and it's possible to google local experiences - and they are often less corporate than the Red Letter Day types). We've had brewery tours, gin tastings, cookery days and llama walks.
A tree to plant (and hopefully to watch grow)
Home-made food boxes - find some good recipes, buy all the non-perishable ingredients and make up boxes with the recipe taped to the top and the perishable ingrredients that they need to buy highlighted. You could always get an Asda or Sainsburys voucher to cover the cost of the perishables to put in too, if you want.

I'm getting my dad a photo puzzle of him and his favourite grandchild- my dog!

He will hate it and love it.

MaverickDanger · 07/09/2020 11:32

DDad is getting a Spectator subscription if I can find a decent offer for it.

DH is getting some decent knives (loves to cook, hates using our cheap knives) and then upgraded versions of consumables - coffee, chocolate, toiletries etc. Might get a new belt or wallet as both are looking a little worn.

Previous years that have gone down well:

Electric toothbrush
Watch box
Alexa and smart plugs/bulbs
Bose speakers
Leather briefcase/satchel for laptop/ the office

snowgirl1 · 07/09/2020 11:58

My DH quite liked his grow your own mushroom kit.

Moltenpink · 07/09/2020 12:01

I’m thinking about a snack subscription for my brother snacksurprise.com/product/the-original-snacksurprise-gift-box/

Lweji · 07/09/2020 12:04

The less mentioned ideas will depend on the men and what they like.

Apart from beard/shaving products, not sure there's a man specific present. Wink Or a present that all men will love.

What are they like?

slightchill · 07/09/2020 12:05

I've bought mine a Wing Home wildlife camera.

BunnyBerries · 07/09/2020 13:48

Zavvi have a men's mystery 'geek' themed 10 pack of T-shirts for £29.99, with designs from video games/anime/cult movies etc. That could be fun for them to open, and probably have at least a few in they'd like. (How often do adults get to open something mystery 'Kinder egg' style anyway?)

BunnyBerries · 07/09/2020 13:49

(They also have women's T-shirt packs of the same if you know any who'd like geek t-shirts!)

Zaphodsotherhead · 07/09/2020 14:46

My daughter is a huge geek and usually wears mens T shirts, so that could be a good present for her!

thelegohooverer · 07/09/2020 21:43

I have given up entirely on dh and now I just ask him for suggestions which works fine. Df and fil are nightmares though so I feel your pain.

I haven’t really checked this out properly, and it may well be a daft gimmick, but it caught my eye as their both at an age where they’re more reliant on garages and mechanics and are deeply suspicious that they’re being ripped off. engine scanner

DiscontentedWoman · 07/09/2020 22:40

Handmade tools
Hire a Morgan
Velodrome taster sessions

DiscontentedWoman · 07/09/2020 22:41

Loving the wildlife camera. Bat detector?

DiscontentedWoman · 08/09/2020 20:58

My DP is enamoured with a Readly subscription - so many different magazines to download (some very obscure titles) plus most of them have eleventy billion back issues to go at as well. I think gift subscriptions start at around £18 for a short period

rottiemum88 · 08/09/2020 21:10

Are either of them readers? I've found A Box of Stories subscriptions to be really good and unlikely to get something they've already read due to the algorithm used to select all of their books

Gladgreengrass · 11/09/2020 07:32

My dh liked the (very small, very reasonably priced) credit card holder I bought him on Amazon last year which has the RFID blocking (ie metal sides so details can't be scanned).

Victorinox have good travel bags and swiss army knives and other gadgets and Swiss "tools" here

And this may be a bit ubiquitous but my brother in law loved the laser sensor tool I bought him that detects distance - they come in a range from about £30 to about £130.

Theredjellybean · 11/09/2020 07:39

I have stopped buying "stuff"..
I get everyone tickets for things.. In case of children I also offer to take them to whatever it is.. Hence giving their parents a day off.
Biggest hit was taking 7 Yr old godd to crufts.. She loves dogs.
Also big success was tobogganing at snowdome
Weekend in London shopping for young teens
Adults.. Strictly tour tickets, etc... People love it if you include all the organisation, offer to do childcare while they go, book train or carpark etc.
For many busy parents the best present is something that they don't have to organise.

God knows what I will do this year with no events on!

mmgirish · 11/09/2020 13:09

I bought my dh a Blinkist subscription this year. It went down well.

Splendidseptember · 11/09/2020 14:52

One of dh best xmasses was when I surprised him with sex toys from love honey.

This year it will be more pedestrian, lego 🤣

drspouse · 11/09/2020 21:19

My DS said "grandpa only likes newspapers and wine" which is, frankly, true, so I got him a puzzle of the Times the day he was born for his last birthday.
I used to get my brother a Christmas read aloud book when his DCs were smaller.
