The men gifts threads are brilliant but I am sure I have over the years bought every single thing mentioned for the men in my life - using these threads as inspiration so I am not knocking them at all. Any less mentioned ideas?

My dh likes international cricket tickets or rugby tickets.

Some great ideas here.

canihaveacoffeeplease · 12/09/2020 12:09

3 recent presents that have gone down really well were:

a really decent set of binoculars (good enough for stargazing) plus a stargazing book (we go camping in very remote places a lot so great for stargazing)

A Weber charcoal kettle bbq and a Weber sanctioned bbq smoking cooking course

A Swiss Army knife and a Swiss Army knife whittling book

I've just gone with things that suit my husband's personality and life. I've bought him a pair of pizza scissors as our pizza slicer is on its last legs and DH is a pizza addict. I've also bought every flavour of chocolate spread I can find, he doesn't drink so this will be his "treat". I have also bought him an extra long phone charger so he can sit in "his" chair and charge his phone at the same time.

These might not work for your husband, but could give you some ideas.

3 year old DD has requested that we get Daddy a t-shirt with Daddy Pig on it. I'm not sure how much DH will like it but it was on sale and the sentiment of DD choosing it will be important, ever if DH only wears it to do the gardening.

Standrewsschool · 12/09/2020 12:18

@sierraoscer - that is so sweet.

monkeyonthetable · 12/09/2020 12:24

DH had a photo of our family made into a 1000 piece jigsaw for DFiL (he loves jigsaws)
He also often gets him DVDs of classic football matches think he wants them for himself
Good whisky, gin, brandy and rum are usually appreciated - might seem unimaginative but you know it will get enjoyed.
Tickets to a live music or comedy gig (if they ever happen again.)

WitchWife · 12/09/2020 12:37

This is a vast generalisation but IME men of all ages/races/interests (except those who are naturally boiling) love a cosy jumper that suits them.

Clothes generally are good unless the men in your family are v interested in shopping for themselves. I have also sometimes taken mine shopping for a specific “nice” version of an item eg shoes, jeans.

Photo album - many people don’t have up to date ones. Especially if you write thoughtful or funny captions.

Favourite sweets/treats are always good.

Something to solve a specific problem they have eg if they can never find a pen, a little pencil case.

I think the key is thinking of them as people rather than just men!

LEGO! Lots to choose from and can be a small stocking filler or large, main present.

Oh how I wish my men were into Lego! Love that

If he likes to cook (or if you feel he should cook more) I highly recommend the NY Times Cooking section subscription.

My boyfriend loves tea, so I bought him a cast iron tea pot a couple of years ago, and it’s still in daily use.

Copperblack · 13/09/2020 07:14

I’m getting a winemaking kit for my DH this year. We have started much more adventurous walking since lockdown, and done some foraging so it seems like a relevant gift! I’m normally a ticket buyer which is out the window. I think we might also do a joint present of patio heater and awning or marquee for the garden so if friends are ever allowed in the garden again, we can be comfy over winter!

My (extremely hard to buy for DH) was drinking pots of tea on holiday / cast iron tea pot might be an idea for him. Which one did you buy and would you buy the same one again?
Fantail · 13/09/2020 09:00

A Japanese one like the ones here - japancraft.co.uk/cast-iron-teapots-sake-set.html

Also a trivet.

You can get cheaper versions. It’s very important to dry it properly so it doesn’t rust.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 13/09/2020 09:18

@Fantail thank you

A unicycle set (cycle, stand, lean how to book) went down really well - about £60-65 around Black Friday...

Particularly good if you have bicycle loving recipients but don’t know what bit of specialist kit they want, this is a challenge that keeps them closer to home!

BeaLola · 13/09/2020 17:33

My Dad is 89 and says he has everything he needs - probably true - to him being with us for Christmas and lovely meal is his idea of present however I still like getting him small things / treats cos he is fab

Last year one of the things I bought which went down really really well was the John Lewis quality street tin filled entirely with the purple sweets - his favourite .
In fact my DH got a tin of just the triangle ones and he was in seventh heaven about them

BeaLola · 13/09/2020 17:35

Also my DS decided that we should buy DH the Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser - we did and he loves it

TW2013 · 13/09/2020 17:55

If you have the budget then a drawing or painting of something or someone significant.

WoobyWoo · 13/09/2020 20:15

Have ordered the keysmart and the ridge wallet based on these recommendations! My dad loves little gadgets etc.

luckylavender · 13/09/2020 20:45

I'm going to buy DH a Chillys bottle monogrammed with his initials.
